P435 GNC - Manchester City Council 220/156 - Volvo FL6.18/Vulture refuse compactor - later exported. Photo by the late Dave Hinde at Manchester on 2nd June 2001
A former GNC store. I don't believe this store actually moved; I think both other stores were operating when this one closed.
The Lincoln Park Shopping Center opened in 1957 as one of the Detroit Area's largest shopping centers. The Sears opened the previous year and was once the top grossing Sears store. In the 2000s the shopping center became mostly empty besides Dollar Tree, Sears, and a Big Boy Restaurant on an out-parcel. Plans for a Walmart to open at the shopping center fell through twice.

The Port Charlotte Town Center originally opened in August 1989, as the first (and currently only) major enclosed shopping mall in Charlotte County. Built and opened by the DeBartolo Corporation, the mall opened with Sears, JCPenney, and Belk-Lindsey as original anchors, with space available for three more. Maas Brothers was originally planned to open as a fourth anchor in 1990, but these plans later fell through, due to the financial troubles that parent company Federated was going through at the time.
Dillard's and Montgomery Ward were added as fourth and fifth anchors in 1992. Around the same time, Belk-Lindsey closed at the mall and was replaced by Burdines in 1994. A 16-screen Regal Cinemas multiplex was added on to the mall in 1999 as its final newly-built anchor, replacing an older 8-screen cinema at the corner of US-41 and Cochran Boulevard (now occupied by a post office and Edgewater Church). Montgomery Ward closed in 2000-01 with the bankruptcy of the chain, and was replaced by Bealls in 2002. Burdines was renamed to Burdines-Macy’s in 2003, before becoming Macy’s in 2005.
Junior anchors of the mall include Old Navy (opened in 1999) and DSW Shoe Warehouse.

WEEK 17 – Lee's Summit
By January 11th, 2016, GNC was holding its grand opening. For filling a long-vacant space, they sure do a good job of appearing like they're a purposeful, prominent junior anchor of the center! Brand recognition can do wonders...
With their move-in, only one space was left untenanted throughout the entire center, the 1,400 square foot spot seen to the extreme right of this pic. More on that in a moment.

Village Square Mall was developed by Effingham native Gene Mayhood and opened in 1971. The malls original anchors, G.C. Murphy, and Spurgeon’s, would open the following year. Additionally, the mall was shadow anchored by an Eisner’s Supermarket that was attached to the mall but lacked mall access. Murphy’s became Rural King, Spurgeon’s became Stage, and Eisner’s became Jubilee Foods. JCPenney was added in 1977 alongside an expansion of the main mall that doubled the size of the property. I believe this was when Zales and GNC opened.
The mall soldered on for years as a community destination seeing tenants like Glik’s, Maurice’s, Hallmark, DEB, GNC, Dollar General, and Christopher & Banks come and go. Several stores like Glik’s and Dollar General leaving for greener pastures elsewhere in the city. The city has been fighting with the mall since Mike Kohan acquired it in 2008 after previous owners J. Herzog & Sons Inc. defaulted on the malls loan, but dumped it in 2020.
JCPenney closed in 2017 after the stores physical condition deteriorated to such an extent that they could no longer operate. The stores entrance awning and part of the roof have since suffered partial structure failures, and the city has taken the mall to task about not heating the vacant anchors, not offering restrooms, and has forced the demolition of part of the former Rural King store.

WEEK 17 – Lee's Summit
As of December 16th, 2015, GNC was actively preparing to open, with shelves going up inside and now hiring/coming soon signs adorning the windows. They opened not too long afterward if I remember correctly, and given GNC's track record, will commece to remain open in this location until the end of time XD
