I had another adventure with Nan (nan2945) at one of the wildlife rescue centers where she volunteers! I met this sweet little fellow and his Red fox bunk mates among many other delightful critters today! it is so interesting to be able to get this close to wild creatures and just watch them. Each time i go i learn more about them, and am more enamored with nature and it's wonders. Dee, who runs the place nearly single-handedly does such a marvelous job getting and keeping these guys healthy and ready to return to their habitat. Spring time is insanely busy at these places ....SO many injured or orphaned little critters come in here....as well as some rescues that are not wild, thanks to her daughter who is an Animal Control person for a couple different towns. There were adorable puppies, a beautiful German Shepherd, kittens and even "rescued" chickens! ( i brought 4 of them home with me to add to my batch of hens! (Fresh eggs are just amazing!!) The chickens had been likely stolen from a poultry farm and were about to become a student's practical joke....being let loose in a classroom. Thankfully that was busted before it happened, and the chickens were given to Dee, who in turn decided i was worthy of 4 of them, when i told her that i was looking to get a few more!! I was thrilled!!
Granted i would love to have had a Kit Fox....or the adorable little wee small coyote pup (his eyes just melted me!) but both need exotic animal permits to keep....and likely the fox would have been a disaster, altho he may have made a delightful playmate for my 3 cats!! (albeit a rather smelly playmate...they really do smell bad....strong cat pee kinda smell!) They are VERY playful creatures...and have been known to steal dog toys and small kid toys from yards!
We cleaned cages and fed creatures and i got to wander and photograph the critters....including the absolutely teeniest fawn i have ever seen! after that we trucked the chickens home, changed out of grimy clothes and headed to the greenhouses for some flowers....by then it was dinner time and clean up time .....and now that i have played a bit with the shots i took, it is bedtime......i am really tired, and should have been in bed awhile ago!

I love to drive on lonely roads, far from the big cities, far from the crowd and the traffic jams. I don't think I can fit a 85mm 1.4 AIs or G and 24mm 1.4G .... (2 lenses I need to get and that's it)
Problem with Star Wars items are, they are mostly quite cheap to get but there are billions out there to get and they occupy space very fast in short space of time. So I stated to rearrange the display so that I can display more. Spent all day today but it is only the beginning… I need another room for there are hundreds of them in transit. In the meantime the room is pure chaos.

For all intensive purposes, we were limited to looking at the moon Venus was a bust, as was Saturn. Just too many clouds. You could actually watch the clouds moving across the projection screen. Too cool. The next photo is taken w my 200mm Canon lens with a 50D to show the detail this telescope was getting and the difference between that and essentially the naked eye.
Going from San Angelo to San Antonio you pass through several towns which at one point in their existance, probably had some sort of significant impact on the area. These towns are as "old west" as it gets, and unfortunately are being totally forgotten by modern day America.

Many of the shots turned out pretty blurry or ruined by the windshield wipers.. no worris on the blur, it added to the effect on many.
I guess you have to take what you get and hope for the best.
Here is the first of my BrickCon 2001 data visualizations, created from the con's MOC card registration database, and analyzed using Tableau.
This "viz" focuses on the different properties of various MOC themes (Space, Town, Pirate, etc). The x-axis is the number of MOCs in each theme, the y-axis the number of people contributing to each theme, and the size of each circle represents the estimated table footprint of all the MOCs in each theme.
As you'd expect, the general trend (as suggested by the dotted line that Tableau computed for me automatically from the data) is that the more people contribute to a theme, the more MOCs it gets, and thus the more space it takes up.
But unexpectedly, you can see that three distinct clusters emerge from this data. The "Boutiques" cluster (in blue) represents the many smaller themes, while the "EPIC-que!" cluster (in red) represents the fewer larger themes. The points in these two clusters fall near the line and follow the expected trend.
But the data does show a couple of 'outliers'. The Bioncle and Model Team themes are way off-trend. Their size suggests they should fall in the "Boutiques" cluster, but their x-position indicates they have way more MOCs per contributor (since Briann and Lino kind of dominate their themes!). Hence, I nickname this cluster the "Cliques"!
The other outlier is Pirates. It's blob is bigger than it's neighbors, indicating that this theme features some above-average sizes MOCs (...hello Scott!).
This area seems to have more Fall colors for so early in the season (it's not actually Fall yet). We got up early to see what kind of light we would get and found the misty morning pictured here.
So this project needs the opinion of all of you in this combo. I'm tired of placing combos and seeing them buffed away, especially if they are awesome slaps. So I'm thinking of taking one of the best slaps from each pack I get, and Instead of putting them up, I just scan and make a perfect copy of them, allowing me to slap the same badass combo up whenever/ wherever I feel like. Keep in mind, your slap will not be altered in ANY way at all, I will even cut it out the same way you did. If you're not comfortable with this, let me know and I will exclude you from the combo. Today i went to the Orchid House. It was raining and cold, and i wanted to get out of the house and shoot something a bit more interesting and colorful. It did not disappoint and i had a nice time wandering alone with my thoughts in the warm greenhouse among many types and colors of a plant i will likely never own!
THIS one....the Paphiopedilum, called Raisin Pie is my favorite one. i love the color combination and go back to it with longing looks quite often! Stony Hill Gardens is only about 5 minutes from my house and this time of year they are prepping for the big Orchid show in NYC. This time of year is also about as dreary as it can get in a NJ winter, so it is a good time to go see the colors that i so look forward to returning to my world.
This particular orchid is actually one that i could afford to get....and not be totally annoyed with myself if i killed it....accidentally of course! i NEVER intend to kill plants, honestly i don't. African Violets do not last a week in my house. That makes me very ashamed...as my mom had beautiful ones when i was growing up and they thrived.....but not for me. i do have 3 cyclamen that are a little over a year old, a jade plant, aloe and 3 christmas cactus....all still green at the moment!!
i mentioned tonight that i REALLY am very close to trying this particular Orchid. That statement elicited a comment from my own version of Donald Downer here ...."WHY??? You have trouble keeping cactus alive!!" Not true....i do well with things that do not like a lot of water....probably because i can relate...i don't drink much throughout the day!!
One of these days i am going to succumb to the lure of this pretty little plant...it is just a matter of time!
i am heading to doctor myself up with a dose of honey and rest. i feel like i may be starting with a cold and i am refusing to let it get me....too many things to do the next few days to bother with something that makes me feel miserable!!

I was laying out and enjoying the sun and a good book and some solitude, when our family's dalmatian decided that the only place she wanted to lay down was as close to me as she could possibly get, and then to sag her weight down into me. =) While I appreciated the love, I was very much enjoying my own space as well!
We thought about sneaking to get a closer clearer look, but then he turned to watch us and we decided to take the photo we could get and not disturb him too much. I kind of like the way this one turned out.
Lindsey, Jess, and Will help find me things to try on and (hopefully) buy. I'm absolutely hopeless when it comes to shopping, so it was nice having a personal team of fashionable people telling me what to get and occasionally compliment my butt.

Chandelier Plant (Mother of Millions; Kalanchoe delagoensis) - Black Point Wildlife Drive Fee Payment Station, Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Titusville, Florida
There were 20 or 30 of these wildflowers growing just beyond the fence at the Black Point Wildlife Drive Fee Payment Station. They were quite an attention getter, and on close examination I could not find any leaves on the stems of the flowering heads, or around the base of the flowering stem where it came out of the ground.
I went back to the location later in the day and found that the plant also had other stems (separate from the flowering stems) which I photographed and added to the series.
This plant is a native of Madagascar and is known for vegetatively growing small plantlets on the fringes of its leaves which is the source of its other common names "mother of thousands" and "mother of millions".

Last year TheDOJO Toy Drive raised 230 toys for Toys for Tots, a military organization who distributes the toys to children who are without. Last year 20,000 toys were handed out, that equates to 20,000 smiles of children. What better way to instill a sense of hope in a child’s heart than through compassion? Toys for Tots also donates, all throughout the year, toys to children in our locality that are victims of disasters such as storms and house fires.

I spent the entire weekend working on my panning skills. The light at the pool was as good as it gets, and I really enjoyed leaving the flash in the bag.

It's flooded down here. Gross. No way this water's clean. As a matter of fact judging from the smell, it's probably sewage. There's a freaking sewage flood in the basement. So glad my suit's water-resistant. So's my flashlight that I was pointing around since there's absolutely no light down here besides the hole I fell through above. Everywhere I shown it it was a murky disgusting mess. This place seriously needs to be torn down already. It's beyond renovation even though that will never happen to start with. I keep wading through the knee-high water until I see some wooden stairs leading to a doorway. Dunno where it leads, but anything to get out of the waters. Seriously, feel like somethings gonna pop out and pull me down into the water like "Anaconda" or something. I walk up the stairs and through the door, and see a small orange light in the back of the room. Unbelievable that this place even has power. I get closer to it and see it's a button. Normally if there's a button you don't know what it's to, pressing it isn't really a great idea. Right now though, I gotta take what I can get. And I got alot. I press it, there's a electrical whir, and the lights go back on. With the electric whir comes a gasp from behind me. I turn around instantaneously and see one of the voices in this building, balled up in a corner and stained with blood. He's wearing an undone straightjacket and no pants, only having underwear covering him up. Poor guy was shivering. It is pretty chilly down here. It only got worse when I looked next to him. There was a pile of bones and torn flesh on the ground, flies buzzing all over it. It was starting to rot, too. Looking at the bones i could see bite marks. From human teeth. Holy crap, the last guy that came down here, this guy ate him. Can't entirely blame him, though. This guy was severely emancipated. Probably hasn't been fed in days. I gotta help this guy somehow.
"Hey....hey, buddy. Did you do that?"
"....."
"You're really hungry, aren't you? I can get you some food. I can help you."

"Just come with me, man. I can find a way outta here now that the lights are on."

He gasps again and looks right at me. He had his face burning in his arms until now. Now he was looking dead at me. I could see the child-like fear in his eyes, but I couldn't help but notice the dried blood around his mouth, too. This is getting real messed up, even for me.
"...door.....d-door.....door....."
"Y-yeah. The door. Just follow me through it and we'll get out of here. I'll get you some help and--"
"N-n-n-not the doors....not the doors...."
"Well, there isn't really a door, man. Just a doorway. You'll be fine, I promise."

For pretty much being skin and bones, he had alot of weight to him. He bolts up and shoves me down to the ground. Now he's got me on the ground and shaking the hell outta me. I thought the scary part was suppose to be when Steph and I fight Crane. The fear in his eyes turn to terror, and I can hear sorrow behind his screams.
"NOT THE HINGES!! OH GOD NOT THE HINGES!!!!"

His mouth gets waaaaay to close to my neck. Yeah, he's really hungry. But I'm not on the menu. I felt terrible for it, but right as I shove him back from nearly biting my throat out, I nail him in the jaw with a right hook. It didn't knock him out but he instantly let go of me. He scurries away and balls up in the corner again, sobbing now. I don't have any time to feel bad for this guy, though. I gotta get out of here and reunite with Steph. Now I for sure know neither of us should be alone here. it's not just Crane we have to worry about. His own victims are a threat....
