Fashion Loves Charity

(Currently working on the logo)

This year, my shape was copybotted and is now for sale on Second Life Marketplace (and who knows where else), together with my fellow friends, models and creators. I know I speak for many when I say that we take Second Life fashion and modeling very seriously, we have invested lots of time and Linden $, and our shape and look is the result of our hard work, investment, and many times sacrifice as well. It is our pride and evidence of our accomplishments.

This is why it is saddening and upsetting when someone disregard the feelings of others, steals, and sells them for their own personal gains and profit.

A good friend told me once: “Don’t worry about things you can’t control”

I certainly can’t control nor stop this person from copybotting more shapes or stop them from selling. So, instead of worrying and being upset about that, I have decided to do something positive with this situation and experience.

We have created a charity called “Fashion Loves Charity”. I am going to sell my shape with a full styling card and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to charity.

This is where I ask for your support. I would am opening a store inworld and Marketplace. Every month, we will donate the previous month’s proceeds to a charity.

Our current goal is:

September proceeds: Love Donna Flora

October proceeds: Adopt a Family

November proceeds: Toys for Tots

If you are involved in RL charity and wish to have us donate the proceeds, please contact us and we will put that on a list of charities to donate.

Fashion Loves Charity will be a month-to-month event and if the interest is no longer there, we will make the final donation and close the event.

The sales amount and when and where it was donated with a copy of a receipt will be posted in Facebook and Flickr Group, as well as in the store. Everything will be open to the public to see how much has been donated.

Please note that this is an UNOFFICIAL charity. We are not in touch with any RL charity organization.

With that said, we are reaching out to our Fashion and Modeling family for your support. Whether you have been victimized or not, we need your help!

We would like to sell our shapes together with clothing, hair, jewelry, together as a complete package. The only thing not included is the skin.

We need your help & support!!!

Models: We understand that your shape and look is your signature. But we still ask for your support by donating your shape. It can be an older look, you can modify your current one so it’s not quite the same, or it can be exactly the same, the choice is yours.

Clothing/Shoes/Jewelry/Hair designers: We would like to sell “Package” that includes full outfits. This can be one of your older designs, new designs, the choice is yours, but 100% will be donated to charity. No special design required – just something you already have.

We also ask if you can put posters up about this charity in your store, blog and group (provided).

Photographers: We will need vendor pictures once the models have their style ready. One picture of ¾ length and one close up on the face.

Sponsors: We need to get the word out! We need all the help we can get and we need magazines and blogs to help us promote the charity!!!

If you would like to participate, please contact us!

Just a couple of months now and the mangos will be ready and ripe. One of the best fruit you can get and so plentiful in the area they are free.

The Live Oaks dropped their leaves, in about 5 seconds...well, okay over about a week, but it is remarkable how fast it happens, and how quickly they begin to green up again! I know all you folks up North will be jealous because we really only have to rake, once a year. We have two huge grandfather oak trees in our front yard. From a distance, they make our cars and truck look like toys. They are great protectors. They shade our lawn, roses and plants in the front yard from the hottest periods in our area of Florida. We don't get the pests and weeds that our neighbor's get, and I think it's because of the Oaks. Also we have a septic system...the drain field basically IS a big part of the front yard, and in the words of Erma Bombeck, The grass always grows greener over the septic tank! =o)

Simple tracing in ArtRage (iPad app) that I did today, using the app's digital pencil tool and a somewhat more precise physical stylus than what I had been using before.

Even with its obvious faults I'm pleased at how recognizable the rhinos are and how the composition and coloring seem to be okay. The photo that this is partly based on had obscure areas where I had to invent missing unfamiliar features, not all of them convincingly. It was surprising how important and critical details that I imagined were there turned out not to be when I looked closer. If you refresh your memory of rhinos by looking at a few photos of them you will see how unrealistic some of my simplifications here are, especially the uniform and markedly different shades of gray for them, which I chose to make it immediately clear there are two rhinos. As they browse together on a yellow savanah, the youngster is as close to its parent(?) as it can get and in the photo their very similar sunlit and shadowy grays blend them together.

Space Mountain (load area)

Tomorrowland

Hong Kong Disneyland

April 2013

The ride is most similar to Disneyland’s redo in 2005 (they opened the same year). Whilst I loved the redo of Tokyo’s version - with it’s unique ‘power source’ storyline - a proper sound system really adds to the ride which Tokyo sadly didn’t get - and that excuse of a sound system "score" on the Magic Kingdom track at Walt Disney World after that redo doesn’t cut it at all.

Perhaps the oddest thing about this Space Mountain is that it’s a queue at - and with - ground level entry. The "probe" in the foreground came from DisneyQuest Chicago after it closed. The "planet" designs are also prevalent across the rest of Tomorrowland.

Here's a shot I took of my Smitten Kitten & her pose reminded me of that show Homicide. At the end of the opening credits someone answers a ringing phone & says: "Homicide" & then there's a shot of police tape or a body outline or some such. Anyway, this reminded me of that except it's : Felinicide: Life with Alexande. :)

She was stretching on the floor & it used to make us laugh how flat she'd get and then commence to drag herself across the floor & roll over. We called her "sloth". As always, the tail is nicely arced.

The car show was fantastic , I talk with one of the people that had their truck in and they said it was about double what they usually get and he thought it was the great weather .

2015-10-12 - Monday:

Sometime last week the UPS guy brought yet another toy: a SenseHat. "Hats" is the commonly used name for extension boards for the RasPi and this one features: a gyroscope, a compass, a temperature and a humidity sensor and - in order to display some data/text/stuff an 8x8 RGB LED array. And this display now shows a heart that changes from blue to red te warmer it gets and a frame that changes from yellow to green the more humidity it senses.

Time

Family

Love

All things that fill our lives with joy.

This is one happy family. Their time together gives them so much. I can see it in their smiles, the ease at being together, the way they celebrate life.

Dick & Mary Anne, the couple on the couch, met at a Parents Without Partners event and fell in love. They got married and melded their two families together into one. Mary Anne's two, David & Monica are my nephew and niece. Dick's two are Keelan & Melyssa. Together, this made for one happy family. Eventually, grandchildren Abbi, Cora, Kaitlin & Layla came to make the family that much more loving and fun.

I got to know Dick through Monica & David. In my last job move, I worked in the same building as Dick. A small world connection. I met Keelan & Missy at weddings, baby showers, birthday parties and other family gatherings. Monica prompted Dick to give me some of his legacy photographic equipment when he decided to switch camera brands and downsize his collection. One of my most favorite lenses is from Dick.

You get the idea that our connection is strong. Families have a way of reaching out and gathering in, sharing their joy.

Dick first, then Mary Anne retired from every day work, to work on the things they most enjoyed in life: each other, their family, the love of nature, travelling, photography and jewelry-making. Life was good and fun.

Mid-December, just weeks ago, Dick was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was non-operable.

Life and time became even more precious.

Prayers and support came to this family from all their friends and family. They all rallied around and helped each other in so many ways.

Thinking about what I could do, and what I thought would help them, I suggested to Monica that during the Christmas holiday, when all the family would be together in one place, that someone take a family portrait. I wasn't looking for the job, but offering my help if they wanted it, and encouraging them to take advantage of the precious moments of happiness that they did have left together.

I got the call and we made the time. I took a series of photos, as many combinations of family as I could think of. Working to get and capture the smiles that the joy of their family is in their lives.

Dick died a week ago.

I'll always remember his joyful smile and firm handshake when I left the day I took this photo. I thanked him for the joy that he had brought & let him know to just call if he had a need. He was happy that day, and so was I.

As much as he will be missed, especially by every one in this family portrait, he will be remembered with love.

Time is precious. Live it to the full and with as much joy as you can.

On May 7, 2011, community members braved unusually cold weather for Hayward's second annual multigenerational poetry slam in the Hayward Public Library garden plaza. Following a series of free poetry slam workshops in March and April, led by Matt Blesse of the San Francisco-based Youth Speaks, many participants presented poems inspired by or about the Big Read selection In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. Lynn Roberts placed first in the poetry slam competition, followed by Judy Tomlinson in second place and Alison Diep, a 9th grade student from San Leandro, in third place.

SPONTANEOUS GRACE: Poem by Cristina Deptula

At this moment I experience the desire for spontaneous grace. For the rain that holds off till ten minutes after your hike, for the extra five minutes a friend waits until your arrival, for the extra twenty miles your car somehow runs until the gas station.

For the soft edges on the too-metallic recliner, for the last three rays of the sunset, for the directions you look up at the one coffeehouse where the public computer actually gets Wi-Fi.

For the reason why some businesspeople stop and give change to a strange homeless person, for the reason why a receptionist smiles and lets you in too near closing time, for the reason why people share words of support and a few bucks to folks online without asking for proof first.

For the mirror kind enough to break and shift your image in all the right ways, for the dandelion in the cracks that escapes the neighbor's weed-whacker, for the train that waits for you.

For the traffic cop who winks - just once - at the jaywalkers or the driver ten or fifteen miles over the limit, for the single parent whose garage sale customers tell him/her to keep the change, for the time your housemate who loves angry talk radio actually switches on music.

For the gleam of a rainbow in the soapscum on your dishes, for the time when your Mom actually doesn't open her mouth when there are still dirty dishes in your room, for the reason I still do favors for a friend everyone says could do more for herself.

For home, for love and memories, for the grace notes at the end of the symphony.

For the extras which get and keep us up in the morning. For spontaneous grace.

-- After the concept of 'Spontaneous Prose' and dedicated to Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, Edie Kerouac, Gary Snyder, and Diane Di Prima.

ANTEVASIN: Poem by Cristina Deptula (Sanskrit for someone between worlds)

For years wandering, tracing footsteps in sparse soil

some mine, some yours, some theirs

some not to know, only to match

skimming the edge of the isthmus

between the continents, maps given in plethora

by flagwaving hawkers, gawkers, peddlers, cops

all for each interior, the routes and regulations

in detail, shy shakes of head at the mention

of crossover, passports, documents for the border

one does not travel, one belongs

safe within the scattered shantytowns of the mind

one or another, pick one, to have an address

laid out to rest, arms extended

my blood forms a waterway, a long

repressed canal to traverse the path

between past and present, old and young,

male and female, moral and wrong,

simplicity and success, death and life, the ideal and real.

Come! I have built the way home.

And one more, from when I worked in an organic co-op grocery deli kitchen up in

Davis:

SANDWICH POEM: by Cristina Deptula

Lettuce, olives, and hummus.

I glance over the list of requested ingredients before spreading the garbanzo paste over the whole grain bread, perhaps too neatly for a customer in a hurry.

Mayonnaise, tomatoes, and pesto.

He orders the same every day. Perhaps as an effort to reduce life's complexity, a suffocating variety present even in our deli kitchen. Some say he should try more experiences, branch out, but some regularity is needed to make experience possible.

Peppers, mustard, and tuna.

The woman's children gather anxiously around her, tugging at her pant legs and whining to go outside. As the last rays of sunlight waft in from the sliding glass doors, I can't say I blame them.

Cheddar, mayo, and lettuce.

She watches me work and requests more of everything, more cheese, more mayo, more vegetables, until it becomes difficult to hold her order together. Perhaps this is like life - not even that too much happens, but that everything mixes together at once.

I was very kindly asked to do an interview for a student magazine put together by a group of students who are studying the same course I did at the same college I went to so I was more than happy to oblige.

I was blown away at the quality and professionalism of the finished magazine, which is free and available for free in Casino, Rollersnakes, Jade and more in Leicester!

A big thanks to Matt & co for the opportunity to be a part of the mag and good luck to them!

Here's the actual interview:

I. What inspired you to set up on your own and pursue you own ideas?

It was the thought of being able to be free with my creativity and do my own thing. I vividly remember looking upto my boss, the owner of the design agency I used to work for, thinking "how the hell do you own your company, it seems so fun, no idea how you do it" but not too long after that I was my own boss, which is the best feeling in the world!

I've always been one for wanting to give everything a go to, even if I knew nothing about it e.g editing or painting, I've got a big thirst for anything creative and it doesnt normally matter if I can do it or not, I just love giving things a go!

II. What, if any, were you biggest hurdles to overcome in the early

stages? What are the hurdles now?

I guess the biggest hurdles are getting your name out there and building up your portfolio, but that's something time sorts out for you. I found if you just keep working hard and love what you're doing, things fall into place as people recognise when you work hard and have a passion I reckon. I've been super super lucky in having the nicest clients too, in areas I'm really interested so I think luck has a big part to play!

As for hurdles now, I'd say it's more the business side of things. Dealing with tax, invoices, business things like that ~ Im a designer and not a businessman so it's far easier for me to learn a technique in illustrator than it is to figure out a tax form.

It's dealing with business and graphics and getting them both right that's the hardest part i'd say, but don't let that put you off, Id I can do it, failing maths TWICE then anyone can do it!

III. What is the most important lesson you have had to learn as a

free-lance designer?

That being nice gets you everywhere! Seriously, being nice to people and complementing others on great work and just actively being part of the art / graphics community helps so much as you make great friends and connections. You never know where things can lead, and thats the most exciting part!

IV. Jam Factory has a strong stylistic indentity, does this ever work

against you?

I guess it has yeah, as maybe potential clients may see my style of work and think "I dont like that style" or "This wouldnt suit what I need" and they go elsewhere! I try to vary everything I do and mix up styles but I think it still shines through however I try to hide it.

That's all cool though, I hope i do have my own style, so that's a good thing to have your own identity I think. Im sure every designer or artist in the world who has a distinctive style has had it work against them at some point, it's just the way it goes I guess!

V. Do you worry about waking up one morning to find that your favoured

style is "out of date"?

I do a bit yeah but I like ot think that the harder you work the better you become. It's like anything, the more you practice then the better you get! I love designing and doodling and being creative, so the more I do it, hopefully the better I get and therefor taking my own work forward, hopefully not becoming 'out of date'.

I also really enjoying trying something new, trying more complex ideas or just tacking something in a different way to before, so I think that way of continually pushing yourself further will help counter becoming stale and out of date (fingers crossed anyways!)

VI. What role does the computer play in Jam Factories out-put? Do you

still doodle/sketch?

I do indeed still doodles and sketch, infact I think it's really important to! There's not a project that goes by that hasn't started life in a sketchbook in one way or another. Sometimes it's a quick scribble and afew words, other times every last detail is sketched out first!

But yeah, I do think it's important to start with pen and paper, lets you just rough out the ideas first and start the process, then you can move onto the computer with a clear direction of where you're going with something.

As for the computer role, man I'm a complete nerd so my Mac pretty much does everything possible. I use it for everything aswell as all JamFactory-related stuff, I'm lost if I've not got my 'puter, sad but true!

VII. What are the sorts of things that you do to attract clients?

I tend to do a little sexy dance for them, that always works wonders.

I don't really... maybe I should? Aside from the dancing, I don't really do any 'traditional' promotional methods, I haven't taken out any adverts or anything like that. Again I think i've been really lucky, taking advantage of social networking and community sites such as Flickr and MySpace, utilizating them for showing off my work and the latest things happening at JamFactory.

Being on top of things like website updates, blogs, newsletters really helps and writing everything in a nice friendly and honest format. I really think the way I write things, just genuine and honest, helps because there's no bullshit, there's no agency smokescreen - it's just me, my work and that's it!

Freebies aswell, everyone loves freebies and there's such a great feeling seeing someone rock a little pin badge with your logo on or wear a t-shirt with your design on. These things never make you any money per se but they do push your name forward and get your work seen!

VIII. Who/what inspires you? And to what extent have they/this

affected your work?

Oh man, who inspires me? Where do I start... Mr Cartoon, 123Klan, Hydro74, ISO50, Christopher Lee, David Ellis, Deseo, DGPH, Tado, Estevan Oriel, Flying Fortress, Jeff Soto, Mike Giant, Richt, PARIS and the whole Wet Shame Crew, Pete Fowler, Toki Doki, Banksy, David Carson to name but a few!

They inspire me directly, like I've subconciously taken onboard little parts of their style over the years and it's morphed into my own. I think that's important to, to discover artists and influences you love because like it or not, you will absorb all the bits you love and it'l mould the way you do things.

Im also influenced in-directly too, like peoples work ethic - Mr Cartoon & Estevan Oriels's outlook on what they do is just so inspiring, watch their part on Upper Playground's 'The Run-Up' DVD to see what I mean! It's seeing my peers reach such great heights that inspire me to try even harder and to push myself to see what I can be.

Aswell as artists, I'm also influenced heavily by music, wether it be a lyric I hear making me think of something or just the mood of a tune. Im hugely inspired by MF Doom - just the idea of multiple persona's and hiding behind a mask, it just feels so creative and exciting. Doom's a big push behind my 'CMYK' brand - creating new things to experiment with, with no reason or purpose!

IX. You seem to dabble in all areas of art forms. Which to you make

you feel like you've achieved the desired impact the most?

I dont feel like I've achieved my desired impact in any field yet! I'm still a relative youngling in all respects and I hope to just keep on learning and improving! There's always something new to learn and something different to try so it's just a big learning curve!

There's a tonne of different format and mediums I'm yet to dabble in so who knows what the future will bring!

X. Finally any last pointers? Tips? Anything at all you want to add?

Work hard, do your thing, show love to others, love it, live it and be proud of doing your thing! Good luck!

And finally would it be possible to get a brief history of what you've

done? Say from starting at Leicester College to now.

Sure, I did a 2 year BTEC Nat. Dip. in Graphic Design at Leicester college, then lucky enough to be offered a job straight outta there (as I didnt fancy Uni) and got a job as a junior graphic designer at a local advertising agency in Leicester. A few months into it I was offered the chance to learn to be a junior web designer instead of a graphic designer - I said yes and spent the next 4 years learning my trade during the daytime and developing my own stuff in the evenings, using 'jam-factory.com' as a place to muck around and try out the latest tips and techniques I'd learnt at work!

Over time it developed into a site with my own work but just for fun, After 4 years I made the break and went freelance, working for and above Casino Skates in the city centre half the week and spent the other half of the week doing my own thing, trying to get other clients and push things forward.

After a year I moved to Bristol with my girlfriend and started checking out the creative stuff happening there and was lucky to meet alot of like-minded artists and designers and loved it. 2 years on and I'm still loving it! Developed JamFactory further and still doing that to this day - everyday there's something new and fun!!!

Volvo Eclipse B7RLE number 117 alongside Princes Street Gardens with another at the rear.

I'll always remember 117 for ever more and here's why:

I received a very nice correspondence from fellow enthusiast Alistair Liddle who had been browsing through my Madder is Back set - a numerical tour of Lothian's re-paint programme so far. Alistair informed me that my photo of 117 below the Balmoral Hotel was infact 107.

I went looking among my hundreds of photos on the computer and discs to find my pictures of 117 - without any success. Not one photo anywhere. How could this have happened?

Well I reckoned it was as a result of having attended the Edinburgh Transport Group's late summer outing in 2010 on Dart Dash, number 117 where we took loads and loads of photos. I always have a list to tick off what I need to get and I suspect I have, incorrectly, ticked off 117 - but of course I was ticking off the wrong 117.

Not able to sleep a wink that night I had to resolve to go and find Eclipse 117 and so on Sunday the 17th of April 2011, some eight months after forgetting all about the Volvo Eclipse single deckers here is the last one!

Special thanks to Alistair and what observation too!

Here I took a few pictures outside of the Lotus Spa as I waited for Michelle to finish her full body massage she was getting and well deserved after her rough day at the beach the other day. I spent some time in the pool while she did her thing there and I know she enjoyed because she came out feeling so relaxed and all smiles!!!

...Oh, that's why, darling, it's a tragedy

To find me drawing bonsai trees tonight.....

Thought it would be nice to upload similar image to the one previously uploaded just like the precedent set in my sunset upload yesterday. Today's upload is comparable to the one uploaded exactly two weeks ago for my Happy Bokeh Wednesday.

Like I said in the description for that particular image, nothing is too spectacular about it, likewise for this one too. But I’d like to reiterate on how special it is to me personally since out of nowhere, it appears among my other plants in the yard to grace the view. And, instead of let the image lying there in my hard disk, might as well I share it here in my flickr account.

I would advise you to view just as it is because in large view, I’m afraid the clarity of the image is less than satisfactory. I have all the intention for selected focus while capturing the subject. My selected focus is only on those first few droplets from the tip, and even so, it doesn’t work that well either.

Despite of that, I love the bokeh though.

Shooting with 18-55mm lens at its maximum focal length, 55mm, and the aperture of f/5.6, it yields the best bokeh the lens can get.

And that lives up to the bokeh day.

HBW everyone!

Take the chance you get... and give something to the world around you that you love. Every day's a window.

Ran the trap last night on the roof terrace in L’Orxa Spain, a much cooler night with temperatures dropping to the very low teens and just past a hunters moon so was not expecting too much. Very pleasantly surprised this morning with a number of new species including the Crimson Speckled, one I had been hoping to get and a number of others though two have tentative id's at this stage.

ok, so I'm sitting on the opposite side of the couch and Wei is sitting with Kelly, and Wei's girlfriend, Joyce is sitting next to me. I had just ordered Joyce two glasses of water to keep her hydrated (I was the only person in the group that didn't drink anything at all that evening) and then Wei and Kelly start pulling these moves to get Joyce's attention. Joyce by this time was exhausted from all the dancing, I of course knew what was going on and how funny this would get and kept snapping the action as it happened!

F.Y.I.: "New York City in a Bag", by: MUJI

"As irresistible to adults as it is to children, MUJI's New York in a Bag comes with eight wooden city structures and six wooden cars. Included are New York City icons such as MoMA's original 1939 building, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Statue of Liberty, and the Guggenheim Museum. The wood is from sustainable forests. Recommended for ages 6 and up."

MUJI BIO:

The MUJI philosophy has won them a worldwide following over the last 20 years, emphasizing earth-friendliness, the use of innovative materials, and efficient packaging for reduced cost. Since opening their first store in Japan in 1983, MUJI is not only an internationally renowned company, but for many people is a way of life. MUJI merchandise is based on three simple elements: materials, process, and packaging.

Inventive uses for materials that might otherwise have been discarded or ignored result in innovative product at the lowest cost. Equally important, MUJI infuses style and usefulness into everything produced, no matter what its provenance.

To keep MUJI offerings focused and flexible, heavy attention is paid to the consumer's use of the product, and the manufacturing process is determined on that basis. Superfluous finishes are rejected, overprocessing is eliminated, and lines and forms are clean and uncluttered for manufacturing ease.

MUJI carefully protects items for sale with packaging appropriate to their purpose. By using the same clear cellophane material to wrap most items, consumers see exactly what they are getting and don't pay extra for expensive packaging.

Their guiding principle is flexibility, providing the savvy customer with products that are beautiful, useful, and essential "objects for living."

Shannon Class Lifeboats

The 13.6m (44 ft 7 in) Shannon is the latest class to join the RNLI’s All-weather lifeboat fleet and is the first to be propelled by waterjets making it a very agile and manoeuvrable craft that has excellent shallow draft capabilities.

As a testament to Berthon’s build quality, the prototype vessel (RNLI 13-01 Jock and Annie Slater) was accepted into the relief fleet with only minor design changes. The build process, designed by Berthon, has allowed us to build up to 6 vessels a year using the latest lean management manufacturing techniques. This has been so successful it has been adopted by the RNLI to continue building the Shannon Class at the All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole.

Charles Hunter-Pease, Chairman of the RNLI, talks here in a video about the Shannon build stating that “Every single person in Berthon gets involved and discharges their responsibility to ensure that we receive a world class product. It’s proof because the crews are very proud of the boats that they get and, so far, in the last 30 years, Berthon lifeboats have saved 584 lives. They’ve also brought ashore something like 20 times that number; so Berthon boats have saved the equivalent of the population of Lymington.”

For more detail on the work Berthon has performed with the RNLI on the Shannon Lifeboat please see the marine services case studies page.

A demonstration of the exceptional manoeuvrability of waterjet-driven yachts.

An RNLI Shannon Class Lifeboat fitted with Hamilton HJ364 Waterjets combined with the power of 2 Scania Di13 12.7 litre engines with over 650 horsepower. This demonstration shows the slow speed agility as well as the controlled turn of pace given by the waterjet propulsion system.

House of the Teutonic Order

The House of the Teutonic Order was as a Viennese commandry of the in 1198 in Acre founded Teutonic Order under Duke Leopold VI in the early years of the 13th Century built. The German Order was next to the Hospitallers and the Templars the third major order of knights of the Middle Ages. Duke Leopold gave him the large area between Stephansplatz, Churhausgasse, Singerstraße and blood alley (Blutgasse). Documentarily proven is the existence of the house from 1222. Here resided the Landkomtur (province commanders) of the Bailiwick of Austria, to which the commandries Vienna, Wiener Neustadt, Graz, Friesach and Groß-Sonntag (Krain) belonged. In the great fire of 1258 all the religious buildings except the church tower burned down. In the Middle Ages the complex of the German monastic house was limited to the area along the Singerstraße and Blutgasse. 1309 exchanged the Order part of the land that was needed for the extension of Stephen's cemetery against a neighboring area. The sprawling building had in its, the Stephansplatz adjacent part a large farm yard, which was surrounded by stables. Since 1526 the Head of the Order bore the title "Grand and German master (Hoch- und Deutschmeister)". The famous Viennese house regiment of the same name by the way in 1696 emerged from those Truppenkontigenten (contigent of troops) which the Order for the Turkish war had provided. After the first Turkish siege of Vienna, numerous residents of the suburbs whose houses had been burned were housed here. From 1667 the already dilapidated buildings were torn down with the exception of the church under the Landkomtur (province commander) Gottfried Freiherr von Lambert and provided by Carlo Canevale with three-storey new buildings. As plasterers Jacob Schlag and Simon Alio were mentioned. 1679/82 increased Canevale and Johann Bernhard Ceresola the complex.

Sala terrena. In the years 1720-1725 the German religious house under the Landkomtur Guidobald Starhemberg by Anton Erhard Martinelli was further extended and baroquised. In 1785 it received under Landkomtur Alois Graf Harrach by placing a fourth storey its present shape. In the 18th Century several fires caused major damages. Especially those of 1735 raged for three days, because the urban fighting personnel the entry was denied by the German Order of Knights. Among the prominent residents of the German religious house, which in the 18th and 19th century first also as a guest house of the Order served and then was largely rented, included Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1781), Johannes Brahms (1863 - 1865) and the comedy writer Cornelius Hermann Paul von Ayrenhoff. At the beginning of the 19th Century on Stephansplatz the German Order Cellar (Deutschordenskeller) was opened. Was in its place in the second half of the 20th Century the Restaurant "Deutsches Haus". Since 1809 the German religious house is the residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. Until then, this one resided in Mergentheim (Baden-Württemberg). From 1864 the Landkomtur Eugen Graf von Haugwitz the church by the cathedral architect from Gran, Josef Lippert, partially had re-gothicised. At that time at the gable above the church windows the already damaged pinnacles and figures were removed. Only the Grand Master coat of arms was left. 1929 the community of the German Teutonic Knights was transformed into a purely religious order. It is one of the very few religious institutions whose top management is not located in Rome. First Grand Master living in Vienna was Archduke Anton Viktor (1804 - 1835).

Church - interior. The House of the Teutonic Order is now a sprawling complex of buildings, grouped around two courtyards. The façade at the Blutgasse is the oldest. Those at the Singerstraße stems from the 17th Century. It represents today the face side of the building. The structuring of the façade by high Baroque inonic giant pilasters followed around 1720. The ground floor is grooved. The two early-Baroque round-arched portals are framed with Tuscan pilasters. The simple façades of the courtyards are held in the style of the 17th Century. On the west side of the pentagonal courtyard on the ground floor walled arched arcades as well as glazed Pawlatschen (access galleries) from the 19th Century on the first floor can be seen. In the courts were various, in 1903 discovered grave plates placed. The ground floor rooms are vaulted, early Baroque lunette barrels and groin vaults prevailing. Among them is the Sala terrene, a with a flat dome vaulted central room which is decorated with illusionistic wall paintings of the late 18th Century. The wall and ceiling frescoes depict mythological scenes and figural ornaments. The hall was once opened to the garden through a portal, but this was later reworked into a window. The tract between Stephansplatz and Blutgasse encloses two two-aisled halls. While the cross vault of the first ones is resting on sturdy pillars is those of the other ones supported by Tuscan columns. In the partially with Rococo and Neoclassical stucco ceilings provided rooms of the first floor are located the library and archives of the Order with documents and books dating back to the 12th Century. Some beautifully crafted wood cabinets were personally manufactured by the Grand and Deutschmeister Archduke Eugen. In the treasure chamber on the second floor are in addition to religious insignias and paintings, inter alia, parts of the Kunstkammer (Art chamber) of the Grand Master Archduke Maximilian III of Austria from the time about 1600 exposed.

Church - Empore. Attention getter and center of the tract at the Singerstraße are the three tall lancet windows of the church of the Teutonic Order. The first chapel already in 1258 fell victim to a town fire. From 1326 it was replaced by Jörg von Schiffering by a new building yet today the core of the Church of the Teutonic Order forming. At that time this one was still but free on three sides. In 1375 it was dedicated to St. Elizabeth. Guidobald Starhemberg 1720/22 the Chapel had remodelled in the Baroque style and flanked at both longitudinal sides by newly built religious houses, by which the three stained glass windows became the central projection of the House of the Teutonic Order. Presumably Anton Erhard Martinelli also was involved in the planning. The quite gothical appearing church facade is a beautiful example of the baroque tinge of the time after the Gothic period of 18th Century, unique in Austria. In the neo-Gothic restoration of 1864/68 the Baroque dome of the narrow and high tower was replaced by a pointed Gothic helmet. After the church was severely damaged in 1945 by bomb hits, followed its restoration 1946/47. Its vaults possess Gothic stucco decorations. In the Baroque reconstruction in the corners eight galleries were built-in, which are accessible from the apartments situated behind. The Dutch polyptych (1520) comes from Mechelen, but was until 1864 in the St. Mary's Church of Danzig. The altarpiece was created in 1667 by Tobias Pock. In the four corners of the room Evangelists Statues by Johann Hutter (1864) replace the missing sculptures by Giovanni Giuliani from the year 1721. On the walls hang several grave slabs, including an epitaph of the scholar Johannes Cuspinian (1515) and the by Jacob Schletterer created grave monument of the Landkomtur Josef Philipp Graf Harrach. Most of the more than eighty coats of arms of German knights, covering the upper part of the walls were designed by Johann Andreas Frank 1722.

I was trying to see how close I could get and how many would leave the perch while I did so.

This water fall was very low on water. So, I took what I could get, and shot some close-ups! The leaves were slowly flowing out of the scene.

What do you think?

TheDiet Chronicles Documents an example of healthy eating or rather mindful eating. An idea of a way one "could" eat as a means to eat healthy and enjoy the process. As black belts and martial artist we are aware that Heart Disease is the number one cause of death among Americans and 1 out of 3 people will develop Type 2 Diabetes. It only makes sense then to make Healthy Eating a part of any self-defense program. Statistics show more people will be hurt by what's on their plate than they ever will be by a punch, kick, throw, or grappling match. Learning martial art techniques is important but where it stops the self-discipline of eating healthy and mindfully begins. Just an idea we explore and one that I ask my students to explore as well.

today was pretty crazy busy. i'm not complaining at all; in this economy i consider myself pretty lucky to have so much business. it's damn exhausting, though. okay, and maybe i did complain a little when that cat tried (and damn near succeeded) to bite through my thumb. i'm kinda excited because we've got quarterly reviews coming up and i feel like i've been doing really well. i get so much more satisfaction from my work now that i'm with a smaller company - i feel like every client i bring in really contributes to the well-being of the clinic. i'm proud of all the referrals i get, and of how many customers followed me from my last shop. it makes it all worthwhile, despite the soreness and long hours and holes in my thumb. :)

First off - I've never done a levitation edit before, despite it being the oldest trick in the photoshop book! So when I got home from college I did a mini-shoot in my back garden (my neighbors must think I've lost the plot). The more I look at this, the more things I see that can be improved, but I thought I'd upload this anyway so I can look back on it and (hopefully) see how I've progressed.

I've been on a bit of a high recently, after a pretty bad break up a while back I was left wallowing for a while. But now I'm applying for universities and have become recently employed so I've managed to pick myself back up again! Flickr really is helping me a lot; I really appreciate any feedback I get and I will admit I'm a little Flickr shy at the moment but the only way is up from here.

These pines are full grown, as tall as they can get. And yet they look short beside the rock towers.

Something I am finding difficult, to get (and keep) a good camera view as I walk.

I'm eating popcorn. It's one of the few foods he intentionally gets. And yes, he's "workin' it".

Bello was born to do it. These are some older photos from when I first got my new lens (100-400mm L series) and was taking them to the park alot to take pictures. Jessica (Chuppy's owner) was asking me why I didn't have close up action pictures taken with it... the answer is simple. Bello with any ounce of freedom uses it to run and run. And then run some more and quickly is as far away as he can get and at 400mm, I'm still not close. This one was cropped even though taken at 400mm. And knowing this fact about him, it's why I went with 400mm instead of the 70-200mm L series.

The weather is cooling off today, and he has been quite vocal. I think he likes it. So I might go skating with him later. This morning he woke me up by curling against my chest and demanding a belly rub. And then snuggling closer. Kinda hard to be mad at him. He at least had the decency to wait until about 8:50.

Make up your Mind to Make a Difference

We’ve made up our mind to make a difference and unleashing human potential is our mission. Here’s how we do it…The Philanthropy of TheDOJO through Project Based Leadership Training. If someone is looking to make a difference in our world a simple start is performing an act of kindness for a child (most likely it will be remember throughout their life). Donate a toy with us this holiday season, see how below.

20,000 Smiles

Last year TheDOJO Toy Drive raised 230 toys for Toys for Tots, a military organization who distributes the toys to children who are without. Last year 20,000 toys were handed out, that equates to 20,000 smiles of children. What better way to instill a sense of hope in a child’s heart than through compassion? Toys for Tots also donates, all throughout the year, toys to children in our locality that are victims of disasters such as storms and house fires.

I got Jeffrey when I had no idea what I was doing with my fish tank. For a long time after I found out how big they get and how long they live, I regretted getting him. However, he's turned out to be one of my most personable and interesting fish, and by far my favourite even if he is ugly.

Saw this on the cover of one of the many quilt magazines I get and just had to make it. I really do like scrappy but mine never quite look like the pictures in quilt magazines!

There is a plaque on the base of the cross facing the lane which reads: -

"Medieval pilgrims paused here to pray on their approach to the abbey. On this side of the cross they could contemplate eternal interlace designs sprouting from the tails of two beasts. On the other side, is the poignant image of the crucifixion. Erected around 1500, the cross was paid for by the powerful Maclean family - a public display of their support for the Abbey".

In her 1920 "Iona A History of the Island" F Marion McNeill relates that in 597, thirty four years after landing in Iona Columba paused to rest here with his faithful servant on his last walk from the Abbey to view the island pastures he loved so much. In a terminal condition Columba the Saint-to-be; declined rapidly and passed away a day or so later. I could find no reference to this legend elsewhere on the island but much has changed in 95 years as I was to find out. Many similar assertions from those days are no longer accounted as valid.

Now for something completely different -

The field behind the wall is roughly twice the size as visible here, the folks looking into the field. left of centre (like everyone else in Scotland these days) are trying to see a Corncrake that is making a lot of noise. I spent at least half an hour trying to catch a glimpse of it but gave up, which is daft as others around me were claiming a sight of the bird. All you normally see unless you are fortunate, is the birds pointy head and beak sticking-up from the long grass as it makes its call. The Corncrake is quite a rare summer visitor, to the UK and Iona now has about thirty pairs and they bring lots of birders to the island to see them. Its infuriating that a bird in the grass only a few yards away, making such a din as it does should be almost impossible to see.. true masters of camouflage.. You Tube is good for sound: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCLAb93ca08

The Northamptonshire poet John Clare wrote the following poem about the difficulties Corncrakes present to the bird-watcher, he uses the old name in his title: -

THE LANDRAIL

How sweet and pleasant grows the way

Through summer time again

While Landrails call from day to day

Amid the grass and grain

We hear it in the weeding time

When knee deep waves the corn

We hear it in the summers prime

Through meadows night and morn

And now I hear it in the grass

That grows as sweet again

And let a minutes notice pass

And now tis in the grain

Tis like a fancy everywhere

A sort of living doubt

We know tis something but it neer

Will blab the secret out

If heard in close or meadow plots

It flies if we pursue

But follows if we notice not

The close and meadow through

Boys know the note of many a bird

In their birdnesting bounds

But when the landrails noise is heard

They wonder at the sounds

They look in every tuft of grass

Thats in their rambles met

They peep in every bush they pass

And none the wiser get

And still they hear the craiking sound

And still they wonder why

It surely cant be under ground

Nor is it in the sky

And yet tis heard in every vale

An undiscovered song

And makes a pleasant wonder tale

For all the summer long

The shepherd whistles through his hands

And starts with many a whoop

His busy dog across the lands

In hopes to fright it up

Tis still a minutes length or more

Till dogs are off and gone

Then sings and louder than before

But keeps the secret on

Yet accident will often meet

The nest within its way

And weeders when they weed the wheat

Discover where they lay

And mowers on the meadow lea

Chance on their noisy guest

And wonder what the bird can be

That lays without a nest

In simple holes that birds will rake

When dusting on the ground

They drop their eggs of curious make

Deep blotched and nearly round

A mystery still to men and boys

Who know not where they lay

And guess it but a summer noise

Among the meadow hay
