We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Unique in that it combines a low height chassis with low height bodywork so producing an overall height of 12 feet 6 inches ( 3.81m) which I believe is still a lowest ever for a fully roofed double decker.

‘Scene’ at ‘Showbus 2016’, ‘Barton Transport’

on ‘Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’

One of the main features of this years ‘Showbus’ was to feature ‘Barton Transport’ who this year are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the company’s founder Mr. T. H. Barton.

I captured what images I was able too as the cavalcade passed through the site hoping to have a chance to catch up with them later.

Circumstances on the day prevented me from doing so.

I therefore present the 11 images I did get and apologise for the other 4 which unfortunately got away.

From Sola Beach, Norway. The weather was as gray as it gets - and some rain.

This was the closest I could get and there was no way I could coax him to actually look at the camera. This is definitely one weird dawg ;-))

Many kids signed up for face painting at our community / church Stampede event hosted by our church and supported by the community - > over 1,600 people showed up!

Ah the "Scenic Bluffs" area of Big Talbot Island. This is the spot most people visit the first time they visit the park--mainly because there's actually a sign and parking lot for this area. Just because they're scenic, however, does not mean the area is particularly photogenic. In fact, most times you see some sort of "scenic overlook" type area, it's seldom a place to use a camera. There are, of course exceptions to that... This image is an example of the try try again mentality. If I remember correctly, my first ever image from Big Talbot Island was on this beach, but I've never had a successful image since then. Perhaps it's the challenge that keeps me returning to the location, but in particular, I think it's my buddy AJ. He's always like "Hey, wanna go shooting at Big Talbot?" "Sure! Which part?" "You know I want to see if my comp will work with this tide..." ... so we end up going back for a shot that he still has yet to get. And I wander the beach in an attempt to defy nature's challenge. A few times, I've found a decent comp, but the sky didn't work, or the tide was wrong. What makes this section of beach so difficult is how cluttered together the trees are as compared to the Blackrock Beach part of the park. It's a lot more chaotic in this part. Well, somehow things came together nicely on the morning this image was shot. It actually didn't seem to be too impressive of a sunrise when I was out there, but as I reviewed the images finally (this was shot in April!), I suddenly saw something I hadn't seen while I was actually there. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it... and of course, I welcome all criticism... negative as well. It's better than silence :)

Jen gets and overhead shot.

There was a package in today's mail! These are the three sheets I

received from Lisa at Polkadot Creations for our swap. www.flickr.com/groups/sskirtss/

I'm thrilled with my selection! I can't wait to make each one into a skirt - and

see who received my bold 1970s era daisy sheets (and see what they do

with theirs, as I'm still working on my own version.)

Lisa, thank you so much for organizing this swap! I can't wait to see

what everyone gets and what they do with them.

NAS Fort Worth JRB 9/11 Remembrance Run 2015.

Installation commander, Navy Capt. Mike Steffen, challenged all comers to “beat the CO,” to get and free shirt and lunch.

So, who beat the Skipper?

1st Place (Run Time 17:42): Ulyees Quintero – MALS-41, 400 Division.

2nd Place (Run Time 18:40) Tray Richard – FRCW.

3rd Place (Run Time 18:47) Steven Law – 136th AW.

4th Place (Run Time 19:00) Deven Durnell, ASD.

5th Place (Run Time 19:50) Jordan Craighead – MALS-41, 900 Division.

6th Place (Run Time 19:55) Daniel Saint John - VR-59.

SKIPPER (Run Time: 20:00)

1st Place Female (Run Time 21:51) SSgt Jennifer Ashley – 136th AW/CP.

I read about people wanting to get into off camera flash for the first time and asking what to get, and you get ranges from SB-900 to whatever.

Nothing wrong with a SB-900/800 or two that will run you close to $700 - $800 used lol. But, if you are just starting out and learning, unless you already know what you need...oh wait...if you know what you need, then you probably would not be asking... :) ...anyway...there is nothing wrong with a couple of cheap, used flashes from ebay.

Here's two sunpak and a no name auto flash. The Auto flash was basically toss in (free) from a Nikon EM+50mm f/1.8E deal (total: $26).

The two sunpak, if you look around ebay, can be had for about $25 each.

Add a set of CTR-301Ps for $60 shipped, you have a three light RF triggered system for $110! That's about the price of a SB-400!!

Next time you place an order at adorama, have them throw in two or three packs of Rosco sample packs at $4 each, so you don't have to pay shipping on them.

Heck, you can get two umbrellas for another $30 and two holders for about $35 and you are still under $200! Oh, btw, everything can still be put to good used later when you do spend the big bucks on a couple of SB-900s...

Mystery Il-62 on the north ramp at SFO on 2007-09-14. This is the best shot I could get, and I can't read the registration or livery. My best guess is that it belongs to Rossiya, the official Russian government VIP carrier. ("Rossiya" is 6 letters in Cyrillic.) The tail logo looks like the Russian emblem as well. Anybody know what it was doing at SFO?

Looking towards Les Gets and La Turche from Mont Chery at the Epervier slope

I miss Africa. I have to go back. You see, I was promised we would see hippos. Thinking about hippos is what got me through the horrible shots you have to get. And as sick as they made me I just kept telling myself that because of the shots I would get to see a hippo in person. Clearly I have not watched enough National Geographic Channel or I would be wary, very wary - nope - gotta see a hippo.

This photo was taken on my *hippo hunt* (with camera, not rifle). Before dinner each evening I would take off on my own, staying close enough to the camp, in a search of hippos. The zabunjia (guards) knew where I was so I was safe. They get one bullet in their gun for just such hippo encounters.

Never saw a hippo. Not even tracks. But as a consolation prize, I found lovely little coves and quiet scenes as the sun set. This image was taken at Lake Langano, minus hippos.

Thank you for taking a peek!

Alder-based bramble is not easy to photograph from within, but when you get and opening for the light to pass through, the green is bountiful.

I did some photos for some friends last week - they wanted some family shots and they wanted the BTM, so Brooke and I went over for dinner. it was a fun night. and I really like doing this sort of thing in people's homes. feels comfortable. makes things seem a little more relaxed and real.

this shot is interesting because I asked brooke to sit there so I could play with the light and see what kind of shots I was getting and this ended up being kind of a cool shot; the sun directly behind her head... but the sun dropped a good bit before the family could get in place and I wasn't able to get this same effect again.

I just really like the feeling of this one.

In Canada, when one has a restaurant that offers alcohol, they are asked to have a liquor license. Issuing a liquor license is the duty of provincial federal governments. The guidelines for obtaining a liquor license in Canada may vary, but there are basic regulations that dining establishments ought to follow in order to get and sustain a liquor license. It is a good concept to obtain assistance from professional California Liquor License Experts like the Alcoholic Beverage Consulting Service, as they may let to improve the procedure and support to spare you time and money on the process of receiving a vineyard license.Visit our site liquorlicenseleaders.com for more information on California Liquor License

Back in 2002, The Canon G2 was my first foray into digital photography. My previous camera had been a Nikon FG-20, and I was completely enthralled by the instant results I could get and the immediate corrections I could make.

I experimented with back lit items, like this feather boa wrapped around some christmas lights. I loved the highlights streaming through the delicate filaments.

Scale barrel and whiskey jug (jug has real rum in it). I gave the barrel an aged look by pulverizing tea and ashes in a mortar and pestle then mixed that with water. I coated the barrel in the paste and dried it with a blow dryer. After I rinsed off paste and re-dried the barrel, I added the detail. The longer you leave the paste on the darker it gets and the more it brings it the grain.

Just a test of how close I could get, and how detailed the picture could be :-)

This was as far away from Pollack as you could get and still be in the van.

I'm really happy that I was able to get and shoot the composition I wanted before the light went away.

Once Upon a Time collection (2010)

"This godmother of hers, who was a fairy, said to her, "You wish that you could go to the ball; is it not so?"

"Yes," cried Cinderella, with a great sigh.

"Well," said her godmother, "be but a good girl, and I will contrive that you shall go." Then she took her into her chamber, and said to her, "Run into the garden, and bring me a pumpkin."

Cinderella went immediately to gather the finest she could get, and brought it to her godmother, not being able to imagine how this pumpkin could help her go to the ball. Her godmother scooped out all the inside of it, leaving nothing but the rind. Having done this, she struck the pumpkin with her wand, and it was instantly turned into a fine coach, gilded all over with gold.

She then went to look into her mousetrap, where she found six mice, all alive, and ordered Cinderella to lift up a little the trapdoor. She gave each mouse, as it went out, a little tap with her wand, and the mouse was that moment turned into a fine horse, which altogether made a very fine set of six horses of a beautiful mouse colored dapple gray."

This beauty still gets (and gots) the looks! Birdcage on roof?!

strobist: I had two lights set up. a main light camera right and a hair line camera left... but then i looked what i was getting and realized there was a giant wall camera right which was reflecting the sun into the shade. I turned off the flashes and shot ambient. So even though i went into this shot expecting to use my flashes, i ended up just using natural light

How has war changed you?

“Well, I had 33 years in there. It changed my whole life. We had a great experience. We got to live in Paris for four years. I got to work in Special Forces…As far as doing good – that was the most good I did in the military.”

Would you do it again?

“I most certainly would.”

Memorable story: Bolivia

“These commando pilots are flying us and one turns around and says, ‘We’re about to run out of gas.’ He says, ‘You better get hook up to your parachutes. We’re gonna jump.’ I said to myself ‘We’re gonna jump?!’ Then he changed his mind and says, ‘Nope, we’re gonna try and land.’ Then we ran out of gas right as we were landing.”

This area seems to have more Fall colors for so early in the season (it's not actually Fall yet). We got up early to see what kind of light we would get and found the misty morning pictured here.

This is how I manage to get and keep my floors clean. And this way it doesn't take me 2 1/2 hours. I build a fort for Jessica in the living room - she's occupied and then I can mop. So nice! Everyone's happy!!

It was amazing at night; if only the bridge didn't bounce when people walked over.

I'm gonna talk photography stuff tonight, and then the fun stories will be told with fun pictures over the next few days/week. I definitely enjoyed exploring Dublin with my a300, but I did find it's limitations; I know why people invest in a lot of different lenses and pay good money for extra equipment. I went out on my own to get the night shots, because I knew what I wanted to get, and I wasn't sure I could get them with everyone coming with me. I got a few long exposures; but it was definitely difficult without a tripod - difficult also because even if I'd had one, I wouldn't have been able to carry it along with me. I was looking at getting a lot of different shots, but only having 18-70mm made it a lot more difficult than I thought. I do have a lot of material; some of which could have been shot with a point and shoot, sans long exposures. I did get a few shots I'm really proud of, including this one. I really love it, no shake, and everything came out just right, I'm loving the reflections. This is best viewed large, so check it out.

David: I had returned to the apartment from an evening out to get the a300 and went back out for 15-20 minutes to get some shots !

We sailed home after fishing pretty close to the scottish coast, and usually when we are that far west the wind will come from the east as soon as I start sailing towards home so it is unpleasant and takes longer ( $@&%&!!!@$$!! ), but this time it was as calm as it gets and when I took this shot a very thick fog had just lifted revealing this vista...

This is about as unused as it gets and still remains a rally road. It's very very smooth.

Squeeks still playing with the bubble!!! adorable!!!! I hardly ever get and good pics of him playing outside but his day I did wonderful and this is the video day also!!

He actually cooperated and I was ready!!

Although Chengdu is capital of Sichuan Province, for western tourists it is visited for its Panda Breeding Centre, or as a stepping stone to somewhere else - Leshan, Jiuzhaigou, the central overland route into Tibet, or to take advantage of Chengdu Airport's "international" status and to fly in or out from or to abroad (including Hong Kong).

We've now been to Jiuzhaigou and Leshan, so this time we are here for the Panda Breeding Centre, and for an onward flight to the UK via Hong Kong. However, we are staying right in the city centre on the eve of China's National Day - the only day's holiday most people get - and we were able to enjoy the lights of Chengdu.
