Earlier today I was looking at this tray of slightly over-ripe tomatoes, no doubt destined for the compost bin, and having one of my occasional ponders on the amount of waste we generate. I decided that they would make a good still life as well as a reminder to me that I should try to avoid unnecessary waste wherever possible.
Two lights were used for this shot. The first is a Yongnuo YN468 fitted with a 90cm shoot-through umbrella and positioned directly above the lens. This is providing the background illumination across the scene. The second light is a Canon 430 EX II fitted with a 1/8″ grid to focus the light just onto the tomatoes. This gave me harder light on the tomatoes but without generating any hard shadows around the edge of the carton. Both lights were triggered using a RF-602 wireless system.

A promising energy source for many current and future applications is a ribbon-like device that could simultaneously harvest and store energy. Due to the high flexibility and weavable property, a fabric/matrix made using these ribbons could be highly beneficial for powering wearable electronics.
Unlike the approach of using two separate devices, here we report a ribbon that integrates a solar cell and a supercapacitor. The electrons generated by the solar cell are directly transferred and stored on the reverse side of its electrode which in turn also functions as an electrode for the supercapacitor. Photo.
