Finally had time to make my 8 prints for the class "Gelli Prints".... It was fun. Tomorrow, we will work more on those. Yeah! :)
The background is part of an old pink folder. This was mostly created by Daniel.
We had fun today watching a video by Lucy Brydon, Gelli Printing with pressed plants and feathers www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9I-Eit8fH0&feature=share
Then. we got out the gelli-plate and played.

I was trying to pull another print from a dry plate - I wet the plate and laid blue tissue paper on it. However, instead of the ink transferring to the paper, the blue from the paper transferred to the plate. This is the plate after I lifted the paper.
A Gelli plate is a commerically made gelatin-type plate for monoprint/monotyping that makes it very very easy to pull prints without a press. I got one in January of 2016 and had loads of fun playing with different techniques. You can google for more info on Gelli printing, this link looks pretty good: keetonsonline.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/all-about-gelli-pl...
Mixed printmaking technique: block print and gelli plate.
I *think* what I did here was:
- Cut into a rubber "linoleum" block.
- Ink the gelli plate
- Use the block to lift ink off the gelli plate
- Print the gelli plate
That means the final image is in the same "direction" as the cut block.
About 4 X 5 block on 5X7 gelli.
The imagery is actually derived from the plant shadow pieces...
I covered a print I didn't like in dark color (Payne's grey). I think I will add some white lines. And then it will be OK.
Gelli pints 23 feb 2014. Today I used a muted palette: mostly Payne's grey , white, dark brown and hints of yellow and red. Some to remake old prints and some new."Payne's grey, white, dark brown and hints of yellow and red. Some to remake old prints and some new.

I decided to create many of these little birdie cards after this occured:
While sitting in a hospital lobby cutting, pasting and collaging a #moleskine journal page I noticed a young man with cerebral palsy watching me. He was interested and curious in what i was doing. I overheard his mother at the admittance office checking him in for a surgery of some sort. I decided I would quickly make a tiny piece of art for him. i found a business size gelliplate card in my art supplies. I glued a bird on it and added a cute little hat on top of it's head. I felt bad it wasn't more masculine, and hoped he would still like it. When I was done and just before his mother and father wheeled him away, I rushed over to hand it to him. To my surprise, He was actually a young lady with lovely earrings. She smiled from ear to ear and sounds of joy came out of her. I was so touched, more than I had imagined I would be.
I bought a brush paint pen, and drew on a Gelliplate printed background.
Its great to have fun again playing around with new art equipment .
Best of 'day 2', of Carla Sonheims course - Gelli plate printmaking.
Day one left me with a soft coloured print with lots of purple. I just added a few dark and green wavy bits using a stencil.
I liked this one the best.
