I'm not a rabid, die-hard Harry Potter fan, but the excitement over the last book finally got to me today. I have no one to go with me to a bookstore to party, but I DID have this awesome hat I bought in Prague way back in high school, before Harry Potter even existed. (Yes, I'm that old - 26!) I knew I bought it for a reason, and it just happened to be Slytherin colors. I've always fancied that house, Snape is my favorite professor...in the end, I couldn't resist. My boyfriend liked this picture best of three I took, so I thought I'd slap it up here. Amazingly, I don't look half bad.
The pipe filled up with sand and stones. We actually needed to add quite a bit more as we were removing the pipe, since there's quite a bit of volume occupied by the pipe itself.
Once the cardboard and chicken wire are in place, put in the pipe that will let us fill the column with sand/stones for watering.
Somewhere in Dallas... someone is about to get some much needed tech support with a Dr. of Geekdom making a housecall.

Every year I go to "Paw*Con". It's not a real, proper convention, though; my friends and I started calling it that because, in the furry fandom, gatherings of furries tend to be "meets", "circles", or "cons". Plus, it only became "Paw*Con" when we moved it from being hosted at Rozberk's place (where we called the gathering of Macro/MIcro fans, "Roz*Con") to Milwaukee where Geemo, Seph, and Quinn live.
I've been going every year since 2001. Each year I cook for my friends, we hang out, play games, see movies, and go to restaurants all while enjoying each other's company. Seeing as the first time we did this ended just days before my father passed away, this annual gathering has taken on a larger meaning for me than (probably) most others in attendance. For me, it's an annual reminder of my "family of choice": my closest friends, no matter how far apart we are.
To go with this year's Italian pasta buffet, I made a wonderful marinara that combined tomatoes and roasted red peppers along with garlic, thyme, and marjoram.
