Dear Charlie at work, with his lovely and super heavy Kiev 88. Taken last week in front of the new Jewish Contemporary Museum in San Francisco.

Fuji Reala 100 (220 film)/Hasselblad 500 C/M

(I purchased a few rolls of Reala (120, 220 and 35mm) while in Japan last April and

I must admit I do not like this film one bit. I've yet to develop the Reala 100 roll I shot with Charlie this day on my Canonet and I'm dreading the results already.).

Last night was the first time I have ever shot in a studio. I didn't think I would like shooting people in such a controlled environment, but it was pretty fun. Charlie,(pictured right) Keico,(pictured left,) Toki, Mika, Shereen, and I all took turns shooting each other at Ringo Camera. With the exception of Toki, it was everyone's first time I think to shoot in a studio. Everyone shot a ton of photos, so there will be a lot of photos uploaded from last night I am sure. =)

Look what Santa bought for me on eBay!

It's a 1964 Seagull 4A-103, recommended to me by Charlie!

I don't have any 6x6 film yet, so I took some shots through the viewfinder while the snow hasn't fully melted yet.

I know it's a bit cliché, but I'm quite excited! :)

After some time without working them, I'm back to the task. I'll be posting the updates

I think my happiest moments shooting has come when hanging out with this click of friends I have made via Flickr. None of us knew each other before Flickr and we all discovered each through here. Every time somebody is coming into town Mika (usually her) sends me a text/or calls asking if I am available for when they are going to be here and then tells me the plan. It's so exciting for these kinds of events as I know they are going to be full of fun and shooting as well as a trip to somewhere for more shooting, talking, and just sharing a good time. I am sure there are many similar stories here on Flickr and other social networks, but I can't be thankful enough for being a part of this one.

I can't remember who I stole this photo from. It was either Charlie or Jersey. Sorry, but I saw this shot and had to take it. =P

actually, here is not as cold as JP or somewhere is also in winter season now.

I met Mr. winter in JP finally, and saw different life styles between TW & JP. people in JP like to go on a picnic in the park on weekend, but we don't often do it. maybe it's because the fresh air or the atmosphere of environment. that's a good thing to bring some food there and chat with friends or lie down on the ground with lovers.

that was my second time to go to JP in winter, but I didn't see lots of maples and some beautiful trees I've never seen at that time.

what a wonderful experience! :)

This week I'm fortunate to be breaking from the everyday work schedule to attend a three day workshop (Frame by Frame Photo Forum 2012) in Regina, Sask. Some top notch photographers such as Freeman Patterson, Mike Grandmaison, and George Webber will be part of a terrific list of presenters. You'll always come way with more than expected….new ideas, inspiring thoughts, a list of possibilities.

The catch is, I'll have a few days to map a route through down-home rural Saskatchewan before arriving, and that's not to say I won't stop for a few goodies (photographic and food derivatives) before that main buffet in urban central. This bakery is a worthwhile stop in Swift Current, Sask. Food stops along rural gravel backroads, come prepared!

Last night on the way home the snow just started pouring out of the sky. This is in a town where you might get snow once a year, so it was a pretty awesome sight.

In other news; I got to hang with so many Flickr Friends this weekend. (Nana, Charlie, Jersey, Ken, Mika, Toki, Tae, Shereen, and Keico) It was such a good time, and makes me wish everyone could all live in the same town since we always all have fun when hanging out. It was an amazing time and If you follow their streams over the next few weeks, you can get an idea of the fun we had as the photos start to appear in their streams.

Some good news! I found out here that they still make Fujicolor Portrait Film 160 NPS, but it's under a different name of Fuji 160S. I am going to have to pick up a box soon. =)

In other good news; Jersey Yen, Ken aloha, and chcharlie are coming into town to hang out and shoot. =)

I shot thirteen rolls during ten walks, seven colour, six black/white, eleven rolls were usable, on one roll there was no fire at all (?). During one walk I couldn't make a fire because of the wind. I had a total of 172 seconds of film which I had to cut down to 90 seconds simply because I'm a Flickr user, not a Vimeo or YouTube user. So I didn't use the three ugliest vuurtjes. "Vuurtje" is dutch for a small fire. English is the international language but I couldn't find a good english word for a small fire. I really like the french word "feu", maybe for the French it can mean a blazing fire but in my eyes and ears it's a cute little fire. But in the end I'm not french nor english, so "Vuurtje" it is. Oh, and I'm not submitting to the Lomography lomokino contest, not because I'm hysterically anti lomo, but I'm not hysterically pro lomo too. I just want and like to use some of their cameras without becoming absorbed in or being too much associated with the company. The same way I use other cameras. I let FrameByFrame create the movies and I used iMovie to put the movies together. The music had to be piano. I'm thinking of shooting a vuurtje during every walk for the rest of my life, but I suspect it will not come to that. Yes, this was too much text :-)

The picture was inspired by and the framing was inspired by Charlie...

Please visit their streams and you will find worlds of beauty and magic...

i have lots of thing to talk even now, but...see you tomorrow again!

Let's do a ride'n'shoot soon Jennie, Jason and Charlie.

Dolores Park.

This is part of an ongoing project that explores art galleries and museums as art in their own right. In some cases this is simply architectural, in other cases, frozen moments of behavior captured in the gallery environment. Few would argue that a frame can make a a non linear impact on how art is perceived, and contextual framing has a huge impact on how we perceive the world around us. So, is the museum or gallery the frame that frames the frame?

This is the first floor of the Blanton Museum of Art, t the University of Texas, Austin. More examples in this series can be seen here:

Thanks bro.

After a shoot with Charlie in South Park, we headed to SFMOMA, and HUGE thanks to Chinatsu-san, we were able to get to the rooftop garden. Then I met reesie and her friends.

Love the view from the connecting corridor thingy to the garden.

A fun day of shooting with Charlie, Mika, and Toki in Odaiba. =)

Still busy from last time, but this coming week is the last week of school and then I have a break until October 8th before school starts again. Hopefully I will get a lot more shooting and posting done then. =)

Last month my good friend and fellow photographer Charlie Lumanlan came to Tokyo to hang out and shoot. As always we talked about photography, people, and music. It's never a dull conversation and we always have a good time while out shooting. As always, I'm looking forward to the next time he comes and visits.

In other news; there is a lot of exciting stuff going on now. A project I conceived got green lighted at work, so we are working on getting the first version of it out by March. Details on that will come later. The second thing is photography related, but that's still in the process and I will post about that once everything plays out. It's looking good so far, so keep your fingers crossed.

The "nature guide" let us know that we would only watch the whales descend back into the deep one last time so we should get our cameras ready!! So I did....

In a matter of seconds the whale starts to move so I start to click and as I click the person in front of me (without a camera) moves into my shot....

I was sooooo mad.... You have now idea!! It was the perfect shot if only you could have seen it....

Best seen in largest format.

I really really gotta start using the Hassy. The poor beast has been staying at home because I'm too busy shooting with 35mm puppy cameras. :p (Did you know Leica M3 and other 35mm cameras were sold as "Miniature Camera" back in the days? :D) The big boy's big gun gotta get out more. I think things will change this spring...

Met up with chcharlie early December. I was playing around with this TLR in his face. As I always suspected, Charlie is one sweetie! :) Here he is in his own lens.

I remember my dad chasing me around with one of these things when I was a kid.
