It's time to play "Name That Bloom !"

Katsu333 has solved the mystery! This is a Ginger Plant... Look at the link below. Thank you Kat for your knowledge, perseverance - or both..

Taken in the late afternoon sun creating nice shadows..

I've looked through my Florida Flower and Foliage Book and this beauty is nowhere to be found.. So help me if you can! If you don't know - at least be creative.. -:) I'll give you a little hint. It's hard like a pine cone, about 5 inches long and the bloom lasts a long time.

View LARGE or ORIGINAL if you have time - it's worth it. Thanks!

Within the fist few weeks of visiting Ruth Bancroft Garden, her favorite flowe came into bloom, Alogyne huegelii and, it's said, in he favoite colo, lavende. It soon became mine (fo late Mach anyway), too.

Oh, help! Guess what letter is no longer woking. Well, now it is. It's the rrrrrrrrrrrrr, and now I can go into Talk Like a Pirate month without fea . Uh, oh. *

Anyway, Alyogyne huegelii is a flowering plant found in the Southwest botanical province of Western Australia, extending along its entire coastline. A large-flowered shrub, the species favours the sands of coastal shrublands and heath.

The large flower, highly variable in colour, is similar to that of Hibiscus. It was previously placed in that genus, and is commonly named lilac hibiscus and blue hibiscus. Shrub to 12 feet with many alternate branches, although lower ones may be sparse. Bright green leaves are divided in three to five in outline; margins are irregular, lobate to toothed; pubescent and strongly veined lobes are coarse in shape. The flower stalk at the leaf axil is long, tilting at the single flower.

There are at least five lavender Alogyne at the Garden, with one or two yellow and a white in always placed by a major path.

*The reason my "r" key has become a problem is that it has disappeared. Turns out I'm a better typist than I thought. Last March when I got my new computer - you know the one, $1,400 with a $3 keyboard - I donated my surplus four keyboards to the "Help the Keyboardless of North America." Anybody got a spare R, preferably in black with white letters that can be backlit. I will accept cleve hacks. Old ea phone buds don't wo k. Su e, Ethan, give away the th ee keyboa ds, but keep the 200 ubbe pads made useless when Apple got id of headphones so they could see the $350 iBuds ... o is that the bee ?

Nobody sees a flower - really - it is so small it takes time - we haven't time - and to see takes time,

like to have a friend takes time

The math here is a bit funny. 5⅜" = 136,525mm. Why this Raptar says 138mm is, erm, funny.
