Coming around base onto final - off in the distance you can make out Mt. Scenery on the island of Saba

Lighthouse at Gustavsvärns fästning

Cruising direct to Sweden at 18,500'

Looking out towards Vassa, Finland, where I began this journey in the DA-62

Descending towards the coast of Sweden

Dropping the gear on downwind as I pass over the Kolback Bridge

Approaching the pattern for Umeå Airport

Final approach looking out over the southern reaches of Umeå

Great spot to get off the runway though, taking me straight to some GA parking

One of the minor trials areas where sub-critical explosions were made on various radioactive materials

The waters of Lake Maurice and/or Lake Dey Dey

Sun getting lower, clouds getting sparser

Looking out over the eastern extent of the Musgrave Ranges - you can't really tell but the highest peak in South Australia is visible here, Ngarutjaranya

Outback road cutting through the Musgrave Ranges

Heading over the sunset viewing area for Uluru to go check out Kata Tjuta

Looking back over Yulara towards Uluru

Dropping gear on downwind leg to Ayers Rock Airport

Climbing past the actual town of Leigh Creek just to the west

Leveled off at 4,500' for now approaching the seasonal waters of Lake Watherstone. Because so many of the lakes in Australia are seasonal they don't show up on the VFR charts, making navigation even harder

Looking out towards the massive Lake Torrens, a seasonal salt lake. Seasonal?! It's pretty huge for a seasonal body of water

The geography of Australia is so ancient it's incredible

Looking out over the large south Lake Eyre which, although it is seasonal is big enough to show up on the VFR charts so this served as my first waypoint

Beginning to descend for a closer look at upcoming points of interest

Leveled off at 1,500' and passing over the dried-up bed of what might be Anna Creek

Beresford Dam, an historical landmark

I do not recall if these features were planned on my route or I noticed them and chose to investigate. I can't find anything on them but I did circle them. I guess out of curiosity

Once again passing Beresford Dam as I set to follow the road labeled as the Oodnadatta Track on Google Maps

Following the Oodnadatta Track leads me to a bend I know points towards Strangway Springs

Passing over the colonial settlement of Strangway/Mound Springs, back in the day this was an area rich with springs from artesian ground water

Looking northeast out across Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre National Park as I continue to climb up through 10,000'

Threads of past rivers and washes flowing out of Anna Creek

Stepping down to a lower altitude to better see ground features I can compare to Google Maps satellite photos to help ensure I'm not drifting too far off course

Whoever thought bare terrain could be so beautiful?

Spotting an airfield is one of the best ways to determine my position, since most are marked on charts as well as being easier to pick out on GMaps. Right next to a lake? Bonus for easier locating

Not at all sure what this is, possibly some kind of mining site, but it and the nearby airport were easy to identify on the maps so I could adjust my heading slightly

One of many unlabeled outback roads cutting through a dry lakebed

The flatness doesn't help me georeference my position, in addition to not many large distinctive ground features

Spotting Lake Anthony and Half Moon Lake

Passing right over this uncharted airport lets me know I'm still on track as well
