This is one of my two shots for the Ohio Foothills July 2010 Challenge - "Red, White, and Blue".
I was struggling to find ideas for the challenge. Then my boss decided to buy us Tim Horton's donuts Friday morning. As soon as I saw it, I grabbed this one and put it in a container for later. Then Friday evening was the "donut" photoshoot. The donut disappeared shortly after the shoot. It was good!
Here's my second entry for the Ohio Foothills "Long and Winding Road" April challenge. It was taken in Holmes County, Ohio, near Winesburg.
I don't have a clue what this insect might be, but it does appear to have a serious stinger. At any rate, I noticed it when I was photographing a golf match and had to take some shots of it.
I'm entering this in the Hocking Valley Photography Group's challenge - "Things that fly."
It was taken in southern Ohio, USA.
For Flickr Challenge...I asked everyone to take a picture of something you treasure. This is mine.
When I was a young girl I noticed this photo on my Grandmother's wall. I said "Grandma, I really love that picture of you and Aunt Alice" (My Grandma is standing and my Aunt Alice is sitting). When they were cleaning out her apartment after she died they took this picture off the wall and my Grandma had written a note on the back of it saying it was for me. I adored my Grandma and was so touched when my dad gave this to me and told me about the note on the back. I can only hope she is looking down on me and thinking I turned out okay and that she's proud of me.
I still visit my Grandma's grave to 'talk' when I'm troubled about something. I still miss her. I believe this picture was taken somewhere around 1915.
An incorrect white balance setting led to the overly blue tones seen in this photo of a foggy morning in the Scioto River Valley of the Ohio Foothills.
I corrected the setting and continued shooting. To my surprise, this photo was one of my favorites from the bunch when I viewed it on the computer screen.
When the Ohio Foothills challenge subject "Fog" was chosen, I had it in my mind that this was going to be one of my shots.
While taking my dog for his evening walk, I amused myself by taking experimental photographs of whatever caught my eye. Posted in this set are the un-cropped results. Your constructive comments are encouraged.

Everyday in May challenge - drawing something every day in May
Challenge #109: Draw a clock you have around your house
On the way to Romo island from Flensburg.
This white charch is more than 200 year old. Something very catchy that worth stop by.

Here's my first entry for the Ohio Foothills Flickr group July Challenge "Scenic Creeks, Streams, and Rivers. Voting begins on Monday, July 13 on the Ohio Foothills page, so if you still want to enter this weekend, read the discussion for details.
This was taken in the stream behind the Omega United Methodist Church in Omega, Pike County, Ohio.
Additionally, my mom pointed out some shadows that look like a bear face in the water. I've marked it with a note.
Someone on Instagram suggested I'd enter this in the SSS flickrchallenge. I used Ghostly greetings along with a Tim Holtz stencil.
You use the pocket camera, stick it underneath the flower, aim and fire!
I found these at a local wildflower garden, but if there was a sign to go along with them, I failed to see it. My guess was pink columbine, but I have no idea if there really is such a thing, or if this is something else.
There are two more shots saved in the comments and behind this in my photostream. That way you can see the tops of the flowers, or the normal view.
This will be one of my entries into the Ohio Foothills challenge for the month - "May Flowers".

Or so the sign says. I would agree. Popcorn does happen and now that some indoor sports are starting, popcorn will definitely be happening with me. Yum!
I uploaded five total photos on one night (sorry) because I just couldn't decide which one I wanted to post on the subject of "Neon." That's the challenge of the month for the Ohio Foothills group. I am also undecided at the moment on which two photos I will select to enter in the challenge.
It was absolutely freezing at Ash Cave on this March day, but the view was well worth the numbness in the fingers and toes.
Peeking between some trees and rock formations near the top of Ash Cave, the sun produced its own "star filter" effect. I have several shots with the "star," but this was my favorite of the collection.
I kept the shot dark with the purpose of getting just the right amount of sun. I adjusted the levels and contrast slightly before posting
This will be my first entry in the Ohio Foothills May Challenge - "Shadow and Light".
Note: There is a cool winding road in the shot that didn't show up in my original post. Apparently the calibration between my laptop and my desktop is off because the winding road wasn't visible.
I've heard also others say that Flickr darkened their shots, but this is the first time I've had it happen to me.
I'm glad we stuck around for the show at the end of this Ohio Foothills Flickr outing because we were REALLY rewarded with this larger than life sunset. The group wanted to return to this spot to photograph an abandoned barn. I'm not sure that I took any shots of the barn. I focused on the sun until it was gone.
This will be one of my entries into the Ohio Foothills challenge for the month of November - "Sunrises and/or Sunsets". I'm still trying to decide on my second entry.
Four a month challenge piece. I am experimenting with adding semiprecious stones and 14k gold bezels to the twigs.
Inquiring minds want to know ... or at least I did. How can such a lovely flower be called "Bloodroot"?
Well, a quick internet search revealed this ... " In bloodroot, the juice is red and poisonous. It makes a lasting stain and thus a good dye which the Indians utilized."
The above quote came from: www.wildflowers-guide.com/32-bloodroot.html
This photo also serves as one of my entries into the Hocking Valley Photography Group's challenge of the month for blooms and nature in April 2013.
The Ohio Foothills Challenge for September was "H2O" and since water is one of my favorite subjects, it wasn't too hard to find something to shoot and post.
These yellow flowers made the perfect border around this lake. With the clouds, reflections and deep blue sky, it made for a stunning scene. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
It hasn't been a happy week (well, really month) since one of our cats had an inoperable cancerous tumor. With the loss of Tiger on Wednesday, Sept. 19, I wasn't in the mood to Flickr or do much else. However, I'm back now and will be catching up in the coming days. I know I've missed a lot of great photos!
My mom was driving and I was shooting. This was a stop along the way that we hadn't necessarily planned to make, but I saw those stripes of greens and couldn't pass it by. This one includes more foreground than the previous shot. I liked the variations in the green stripes of the field in the other shot much better, but really liked the foreground element of this one.
It was such a good day for shooting ... perfect in my mind. I love the lighting of summer after a rain has moved through the day before. It brings out blue skies and puffy clouds without haze.
I had to complete this challenge from my own yard, due to time constraints (or more like "lack of time" constraints :) Anyway, my yard/landscaping does not feature a single perennial plant...when we purchased our home about 5 years ago, there wasn't any landscaping; so each year, we've done some on our own (actually, I should say my own because this is NOT Todd's area--he hates to see me with a shovel in hand). As far as plants go, I am a "shrubber," as in shrubs are the easiest to maintain. You water them really heavily the first year they're planted; then after that, they're on their own (other than a bit of trimming). That's my kind of plant :) I say all this to say, there isn't a single flower sprouting anywhere at my house, and there was no time to stalk birds or bunnies; so my only choice was our weeping pussywillow (which DID survive the winter ice!!); they aren't weeping anymore...they are wakening :)
Returning home from a Sunday photo shoot, my mom and I stopped so I could photograph this beautiful farm. The sun had already set behind the hill, seeming to make the trees glow and gave the shot some softness.
This shot will be my second entry into the Ohio Foothills February Challenge - "Love is in the air." I've been so busy with work that I hadn't had time to look for shots or get inspired to go out searching.
So my Mom, who absolutely loves holidays, took matters into her own hands by taking one of my cameras around town to get some shots to fit the theme.
I adjusted the levels and added a dry brush filter in Photoshop Elements.
The inscription above the door at Friendly Grove is indicative of the original owner, Ohio's 12th Governor Robert Lucas.
The inscription reads "VIRTUE, LIBERTY & Independence" across the top three arches. Below the first arch is "R. LUCAS" and below the third arch is "A.D. 1824".
View large here so you can read it!
Here's some information on Governor Lucas: www.ohiohistory.org/onlinedoc/ohgovernment/governors/luca...
This is another view of Sunfish Creek at Long's Retreat. If you're standing on the beach area looking at the lake, this portion is to your right in the corner by where you actually drive across to get to some of the permanent campsites. Before you cross, there's a road to the right and if you drive on back you arrive at this rocky, waterfall-y area. It's very pretty back there...it used to be only primitive campsites, but I'm pretty sure there's electric there now (oops...I see from Brya's comment that I stand corrected: there still is NOT electric back there--kinda glad because it has a very primitive feel so your camping should be that way, too :)
Had taken pictures in the field and then on the way back to the walk, this lone flower stood among the rocks and stray grass.
This is a re-post, sort of ...
Searching for another Ohio Foothills challenge shot in September 2009 for a challenge on creeks, my Mom and I happened upon an escaped goat having a chow fest in soybean field. It was so funny, I had to make a collage of it to share. I've shared it in the comments below and also this link that lets you see the collage large.
This month's Ohio Foothills challenge is "Luck of the Irish". I was having a hard time coming up with ideas and then my mom suggested the goat. So, here's the funniest of the three (as far as I'm concerned). It was captured mid-chew.
View Large to see the goat's expressions in each shot of the collage. They are priceless!
