The bloom of a prickly pear cactus provides the best visual clue of the species of cactus. Spring unlocks the mystery of the unassuming prickly pear along the path in Cullen Country Park in Buda Texas. The plant that I have walked past countless times jumps up and declares that I take notice.
This common darter dragonfly has chosen to warm himself in the sun on a dried cowpat. From his point of view it probably looks like the perfect landing pad!
I posted a similar photo to this a while back on a different site, and a couple comments said they didn't realize how small Chipmunks are.

This weekend marked English Afternoon Tea Day. I didn't know that was a thing either, but apparently it is.
To mark the auspicious occasion I prevailed upon dear wife (I had the good sense to marry a baker) to make some scones to which I added the usual cream and jam . . . or is that jam and cream? This is a serious matter in parts of the UK. If you're not a Brit, please imagine the island of England/Wales/Scotland. Two marvelous counties are found on the sticky outy bit at bottom left. The first is Devon, and the end of the sticky outy bit is Cornwall.
Devon says the cream goes on first, then the jam. Cornwall says the opposite. When taking afternoon tea, we must identify which county we are in and if the answer is Devon or Cornwall, get it right.
So, what is right? Well, Facebook decided to resolve the issue and put it to the vote resulting in a 17-1 majority for the Cornish method. But it also discovered that there are some who introduce butter to this important national debate. Clearly such people are a threat to national security who should be hunted down and arrested for crimes against gastronomy.
There is another important authority we must consider. Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, according to one of her former chefs, favoured the Cornish method. Well, that's the question resolved then. The scone on the left is correct.
Finally I should assure you that no scones were harmed in the taking of this photo. HFF.

Last night I dragged my wife out of the house before a line of thunderstorms hit all because I wanted lightning pictures. As we waited and watched the storms approach, armed with her cell phone camera she caught the first photo with a bolt of lightning in it and I missed it. To say the least, I was jealous and couldn't believe that she had done that. Missing several opportunities at getting some beautiful bolts of lightning, it started raining. I repositioned our truck for a better angle and to get us out of the rain when the windows were open, this paid off big time. Once the rain slowed we sat and watched as several beautiful bolts of cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning hit. Capturing a few of these instances this was by far my favorite shot of the night.
Thanks for looking and as always I would love to hear what you think.

Some spectral beings seem to have a little more trouble manifesting than others.
Taken with a Nikon 1j1, and old Pentax 50mm f1.7 manual focus lens, and the lip of a shot glass held close to the lens
to get the extra ghostly extra image. No multiple exposures, as I'm too lazy.

Just when you thought I had posted enough classic car photos I went to another car show. Seriously, I am not usually a car fan, but I do like vintage vehicles like these.
You can see how car styles changed over the years, from the 1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe on the left, to the 1957 Chevy Bel Air beside it. The 1941 vehicle has the curves so typical of that year and of the 1930s before it, while the later models are more modern looking.
One of the most fundamental concepts in economics, and one that we're all getting a first hand, real world lesson in!
Double microcosm.
Egg alone in its carton is micro to the fridge with one item which is micro to every grocery store I’ve been to the last 5 days.
