“Yesterday the foundation stone of the new Bible Christian Chapel, Maclaren Flat, was laid, and a more lovely day could not have been chosen; and what with the green grass, the springing flowers, and the budding wattles, everything had put on the appearance of spring. At the appointed time (3 o'clock) a large number of persons were gathered together, and the stone was laid by the Ladies of the Trustees — Mesdames Harris, Elliot, Thomas, Hardy, and Williams. . . there was a tea meeting, at which there were so many visitors that the tables were filled four times. . . The building is to be 23 feet by 21 feet, of stone, with brick quoins.” [Weekly Chronicle 25 Aug 1866]

At each of the services the building was well filled, friends from a distance being hospitably entertained between the services by neighbouring residents. . . I like the chunky "jeweled" portion of the toes. It gives it a bit of an edgy look to what would be a plain black leather flat.
(my cousin's boy, 1st grade in Colorado, sent me "Flat Stanley" and asked me to take him around town. This is the letter I sent back)
Hi, Cullen!
I've been having a blast in San Diego, California.
Solana Beach, to be exact. Did you know it NEVER snows here!??
I did not get a chance to go swimming, but I have spent some relaxing time on the beach.
I also visited a "meditation garden" where there were lots of pretty flowers. I even took my picture next to the big fish in their pond.
They have most of the same things we have back home, like fast food restaurants, shops, and street lights. But they don't have any mountains.
My favorite thing was the sunset. Because San Diego is on the West Coast, at the end of the day, it looks like the sun sinks right into the ocean! Cool!
I will be home soon. Please find some pictures from my trip attached to this email.
love and hugs,
-Flat Stanley.

These long, flat waves are generated by the wiggling stick that you can see in the tank. They have the shape of the stick. Note that something could look like a plane wave if it came from a really far away point source, and we're only seeing a tiny part of the circumference of the circle that the wave is part of. This was how we used the sun to measure the radius of the earth previously.
