Fernando Botero's bronze Venus seems to stand aloof from a young couple with a child, who are themselves aloof from the statue. (Perhaps appropriately so. Critic Hilton Kramer once called it "preposterously vulgar.")

The Museo de Antioquia was founded in 1881 under as the Museo y Biblioteca de Zea. The museum had a checkered history, being housed in different buildings and carrying several different names. It has been housed in its current location, a former government ministry building, since 1955 and now is the most prominent art museum in the region.

FERNANDO BOTERO - Exhibition « Beyond forms » (2021/2022)

Vast retrospective dedicated to the Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero by the BAM (Museum of Fine Arts - MONS – BELGIUM).

Renowned for his round and voluptuous figures, reflecting the artist's taste for satire and caricature, Botero's work (1932-) is the result of demanding and determined research, in which the artist has been engaged for more than 70 years.

The artist is known for the diversity of the sources of his work, inspired as much by Colombian folk imagery or Mexican muralists as by the art of the Renaissance and the emblematic works of Diego Velázquez, Pablo Picasso or Francisco de Goya.
