September 04, 08: There was barely anyone at the zoo today. Most of the animals were more active than i've seen them in recent weeks.

Parent feeding two of the very young chicks at Lullingstone Castle lake, Kent. Both parents were diving, re-surfacing and feeding the apparently insatiable hatchlings at a very fast rate.

The World Food Programme helps the Ministry of Education implement a nationwide school feeding programme, that is part of its policy of providing free basic education for all from pre-school to Grade 9. It aims to increase enrolment and attendance of school children, and increase learning capacity by providing a mid-morning meal at school. In 2009 the programme reached 224,000 students.
