Common Grackle ~ (Quiscalus quiscula)
A hungry fledgling eagerly awaits a snack from its parent.
Thanks for visiting!
First time I was able to photograph an American Goldfinch feed it's young. The spot had some tough light but the EOS R handled fairly well. This was taken using the 1.6 crop mode (1230mm) handheld. This was in a blueberry bush so focusing was a bit tricky.

I have included a photo in the comment box of the wren nestlings starting to peek. They did not peek, like the Tree Swallows and I was told that when they start, they are close to fledging. I was lucky to be outside to see what was probably one of the last feedings because all five babies were gone the next day.
Taken in my back yard in Calgary, Alberta.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
i met this grey fox on a trail where he was feeding on a huge kind of rat (i guess), Point Reyes, CA
Blow Fly (Calliphoridae)
I know most people don't like flies, and I must say, I'm not a big fan of them too, but it must be admitted, flies are great natural design and irreplaceable cleaners of our garbage!
Thanks for watching!
This is how the National Elk Refuge feeds elk in winter. This is bad public policy, facilitating the spread of disease among crowds of elk (and bison). The herd has brucellosis, and I've tagged some "coming attractions" that are not yet there.
Like many bad policies, it has well-intentioned origins. Some ranchers in Jackson Hole began feeding the elk over a hundred years ago as the elk lost habitat and migration routes to ranching development through the valley.
Bonaparte's Gulls, Ring-billed Gulls & Red-breasted Mergansers. I watched these birds for a while because I'd never seen these 2 species together in such activity. I'm not sure, but it looked like the gulls were taking fish from the Mergansers.

Lunge feeding!!!! Woohooo!
Ok, so I've got this little 'cetacean bucket list'... species, places and behaviours I want to see in this lifetime. Well, lunge feeding is a behaviour that was on that list that I was able to cross off yesterday!
Lunge feeding happens when humpbacks work to herd tight bait balls of fish near the water's surface, the whales will then charge from beneath the bait ball, engulfing it and a tonne of water before erupting through the water's surface! The whales then have to sift the water (and the odd sea bird!) out using their baleen to trap the fish (in this case anchovies) inside. How cool!
