Another photo from my rambling through the thick forest, I have attempted many times in the past to photograph up rooted trees but never successful, not saying this is but I kinda liked it. Hope you do as well.
Somewhere else...deep in a forest in Turkey!
Being badly colourblind, having all these colours in a scene is a bit tough, also tried a different edit approach to see the results. What do you think? And, do the colours look right? 🤔

One of four trees in a small park that have fallen and/or snapped during the storm. I had walked past that tree in the morning. It was a genuine shock to see it lying there ... like someone I knew!

A couple of weeks ago we had a final winter's hurrah with some cold temperatures and a sprinkling of snow. The next morning I dragged myself to some woodland not far from my home to take a few shots. Cold fingers are not my thing so I confess I didn't last long but I got this and a couple more that I liked. In a landscape that was pretty much devoid of colour apart from green it was lovely to see those orangy brown leaves still clinging on in this ragged scene of fallen trees and rotting logs.
As the river of water meandered through the forest, we too meandered with it, but sticking close to the well worn path. With each step, we kept moving lower into the forest realizing that at some point it would be necessary to climb back up. Fortunately, the many wonders of nature prevented us from moving too quickly.
The undulating floor and various bare roots, made one look were one was walking. A vividly green fern helps too anchor this shot, while thriving in a crevasse among the moss covered rocks. And, the cloud covered sky helped even out the light, preventing any harsh shadows.
Sometimes I see pictures that overwhelm me like this one:

Lately, I've found myself enamored by the floors of various forest types. It strikes me that the floor of a forest is the ecosystem that makes the entire organism possible. Decaying tree trunks serve as nursemaids to new generations of trees and ferns. They help keep the soil rich and fertile.
Here, the understory of a redwood forest is teeming with rich and vibrant life. A perfect world held in balance by the subtle contributions from all members of the plant community. And that my friends, is the secret to life for all species at all levels of the food chain--coexist.

This is Rock House Reservation and Carter Pond, in case you're in the area and want to check it out. Good for an easy hike and light rock climbing. Kids like the cave-like crevices found in the larger rock formation (the 'rock house').

During the summer months when bird activity is at a minimum, the opportunity for macro photography of insects is at a high point. This Cherry Faced Meadowhawk () was found on a rotting, lichen covered log in the aspen forests north of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

A straight shot SOOC apart from a crop and some exposure tweaks - No cutting and pasting or anything like that even though the gull looks added - he is as taken !!
This is New Pond at Earlswood Lakes just south of Reigate and the birds are all over the place and this one looks like it is about to land - on the alligator's head !! Well a bit of a stretch of the imagination but the fallen tree in the water does seem to look like a crocodile or more likely an alligator !!

And the Darkness makes it hard to breathe. And the Darkness wants to take over all of us and the whole world. I see a Darkness and I don't want to let that Darkness inside.

This Nature trail area (photo taken in Dec.2024) of Lake St. Clair Metropark once was fairly densely forested, adjacent to a wetland. All of the trees in this picture may end up in the canal with their neighbors that already left the stand. All of the trees with white trunks in the background are devoid of bark and are certainly dead.
Three years ago, a park ranger told me that they are Sycamore trees that shed their bark. (They are certainly not Sycamore trees, or any other tree that sheds bark. Most are maples, oak and poplars.). Another explanation for the die-off was that heavy rainfall of previous seasons flooded the forests and that the trees did not survive.
