The woods adjacent to the marshes at Lake St Clair Metropark are often filled with temporary ponds in the Spring.. These ponds dry up by summer. The woods were very icy on this March morning (but a lot of melting occurred during the last two days.)
Trillium Hill could more aptly be called Trillium Hills, because there were several rolling hills of forest with a dense carpet of glorious trilliums. I had never seen such a spectacle, and this year had seen only a handful of the perennial native trilliums in my home area of Southeast Michigan.
Thank you to my friend Janet (jlst2i) who knew this spot in Northwest Michigan.
In an image drawn from the 2011 archives, the silhouette of a fallen tree and its reflection dominate the foreground, while the silhouetted forms of the shoreline trees beyond cast their reflections across the gently rippling waters.

This poor white pine (Pinus strobus, Pinaceae) has fallen to the water but hasn't quite made it all the way to the horizontal. As such, the tree and its branches with its reflection in the calm waters of Little Gypsy Lake make for a near open mouthed crocodilian form.

A beautiful spot, but the effects of some harsh storms the winter before left their mark...lower water flow, as summer moves on, leaves the wounds clear to see...
A very old shot that I redid this morning. There were times when there were cows in this section. I always nicknamed it the Cow Forest. I wish I had a shot with the cows within.

With waterfalls, I like to experiment with shutter speed, but recent visits to this forest under brilliant sunshine made exposure a bit of a struggle. I have no problem leaving burnt out highlights on the water, afterall, the sun on the water was completely burnt out...full detail would look very odd...but balancing between the dark gorge and brilliant spots and optimum shutter speed was really tricky. Ah well, a reason to go back on a nice easy overcast day

A hard time controlling that brilliant sunlight filtering through the trees above and the deep dark shadows of this narrow gorge. It took a lot of trial and error but got a few shots that captured how the sunrays were hitting the falling water! Looks like a hooded figure under the cascade, don't you think?

This wonderful archway (at St. Vital Park) wasn't here the last time I visited.......isn't it beautiful how the tree has fallen over and stayed in this arch position?!
A couple more pictures in comments of the fall colors and the birds enjoying the park. :)
V krásný podzimní den zalitý sluníčkem, byl u Oldřichova v Hájích zachycen 19. října 2013 nákladní uhelný vlak v čele s dvojicí rekonstruovaných brejlovců 753.761 a 753.760.

4 shot focus stack + exposure blend, f/11 0.6s iso100 for water and 1/40s iso3200 for the foliage...the falling water was causing a lot of movement in the foliage
If you're a tree, it's best not to put down roots in the Yellowstone Geyser Basin. You may find yourself roots-up within a short period of time. The combination of acidic boiling mud and sulphur can be a real showstopper where life is concerned. It definitely ruined my sense of smell. But it sure was pretty there.

A July visit to this beauty and the waterflow was much decreased from the mid June levels...by the end of summer this will be barely a trickle.
After that, we wait for the next winter's melt that creates a torrent to die down a bit before visiting again!
Maybe that huge tree blocking the view will have shifted by then...currently it is lodged on a thin tree at the top of the gorge. One good storm and we could have the tree lying in the bottom...probably cutting other views...but that's nature...and we love it 😁

The beginning of a steep sided gorge where this 20m (ish) high waterfall hides. A fabulous spot, a treasure for sure!
