Born of bark and bone, he stands where life still remembers.

The forest has never crowned kings.

It makes no distinctions.

No elitism.

Only one rule stands: Life must prevail, at all costs.

Under this statement, he wanders the forest.

Protecting all life. Guarding future generations.

He does not rule.

He endures.

And as long as he stands,

life will not be forgotten.

Where am I?

What is this place?

So much green…

I had almost forgotten what it looked like.

The air is warm.

I can feel life welcoming me.

A warm welcome… indeed.

This place feels untouched.

Innocent.

But it won’t stay this way for long.

Back from the first vacation trip since the global COVID-19 outbreak. Travelled by car and camped in a tiny tent to stay as self-sustained and as far away from people as possible. Was still very nervous, tracked regulations and case numbers until the minute I took off from home.

The image has been taken in the Fairy Forest (“Märchenwald”) on Rügen’s north coast. The unusual shape of the beech trees relate to the fact that they are growing very close to the edge of the cliff so that they are exposed to environmental forces without protection by bushes usually growing at the edges of forests. It is an amazing and somewhat remote place - it is high season and I met very few people.

The sun came through dense cloud layers for a few minutes only, bringing amazingly deep and warm colors to a previously stale scene. Visited the location four times over the period of a week until the light was right.

Saving the best for last.

In Second Life, you’ll often find me in the Elven Forest. Yesterday, for the final hike of this vacation, I ventured into the Fairy Forest.

The hike was described as easy and around 10 km long. I can confirm the 10 km – but “easy”? Unfortunately not. The trail was in the northwest of the island, where the climate is rather humid. As a result, it was very muddy and slippery. The wooden stairs, in particular, were quite a challenge for me.

The hike took about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

As you can see in the pictures, the effort was absolutely worth it. The Fairy Forest has a mystical atmosphere. It was a truly impressive setting.

El Hierro the unknown island of the Atlantic Ocean. Sea currents and winds provide a perfect clima, the temperature, in summer, between 15º to 25º C offers multiple options, although there are areas in the south much warmer. A perfect place to practice paragliding, trekking, scuba diving and fresh fish from the deep sea surrounding the island...And of course Of course, wonderful images of the multiple volcanoes and the rugged coastlines. Living there is like this forest, a place lost in time and space.

Here it is — Amanita Muscaria, the iconic fairytale mushroom itself. 🍄

I’m beyond excited to have found it growing right here on my own land — and not just one, but a few popping up nearby! This has been my absolute bucket-list find since falling head over heels into mushroom photography, and to stumble upon it within the first year feels like magic.

Captured just after sunrise on my morning walk, this little forest gem glowed under the soft light filtering through the trees. I could have stayed there all day, whispering sweet nothings to it in pure mushroom-lover bliss. ✨

From my morning walk on the property with my Nikon Z5 and my new-to-me Helios 44-2 58 mm f/2; a vintage lens from 1979 with all the quirks I’ve come to love. This little mushroom scene stopped me in my tracks; the way this lens renders the forest glow makes every bit of moss feel enchanted.

I ended up with 47 final images from this walk, and honestly, I have no idea how I’m going to share them all here on Flickr. This lens just makes it too easy to fall in love with every frame.

The Fairy Forest at Redwood Park in Surrey is an enchanting place. You never know what the faeries will be up to until you venture in to see.

Had a blast with the kids and Jen and our cameras ... many more to come.

Welcome fae of the night and light to the realm of the Fairy Forest.

Play nice with the faeries - they get even!

Там на неведомых дорожках

Следы невиданных зверей;

Избушка там на курьих ножках

Стоит без окон, без дверей;

Among fallen leaves and scattered cones, two parasol mushrooms emerge from the damp soil, their pale caps gleaming softly in the afternoon light. They appear to belong to the Macrolepiota family: elegant in form yet possibly deceptive, a reminder of how beauty and vulnerability often share the same space. Standing amid the forest debris, they are shrouded by the autumnal silhouette that the forest has assumed. 🍄
