One of the three Woolwich Ferries that operated between 1963 and 2018, replaced by a Polish-built pair that began service in February 2019.

Ernest Bevin, John Burns and James Newman were built by Caledon of Dundee and operated by the GLC and the London Borough of Greenwich, latterly under contract to TFL.

Ernest Bevin was laid up here on 29 May 1978.

Ernest Hemingway Home

Oak Park, IL

YK 24 VNJ - Volvo FH Aero 6x2

Just a few doors down from the home of Gertrude Stein, the apartment that Ernest Hemingway described as "“one of the best rooms in the finest museums except there was a big fireplace and it was warm and comfortable and they gave you good things to eat and tea and natural distilled liquors made from purple plums, yellow plums or wild raspberries,” I saw this note in a window.

There was something very thrilling about walking along the same path from Gertrude Stein's salon to the Luxembourg Gardens, following the same footsteps that Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne, Hemingway, Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald took to go for a walk in the park, and then there was this note.

All tucked up for the Xmas and New Year hols.

In Ernest Shackleton's Cape Royds Hut, Antarctica used in his 1908 Expedition during which he got within 92 miles of the South Pole but had to turn back back because one of his men was seriously ill. If it hadn't been for that the South Pole would have been his and not Amundsens who got there three years later. The hut is more or less how he left it.
