Anyone remember the Iveco Electrobuses? Whilst Hybrids have moved on to double deckers now, some experience was gained from smaller buses in the 1990s, with these two being used in Torquay.
They were for a circular route in Torquay, with the hybrid motor only running in the town centre.
Unfortunately, being experimental, this is where they seemed to spend most of their time, in the depot. They are seen here being prepared for service in the summer of 1994. They didn't stay here long, being moved on to Oxford.

Since I left Utrecht (2006) the Public Transportation scene dramatically changed if it is for the better I can't tell at least I found a nice coloured strong unity under the brandname U-OV (Utrecht-Openbaar Vervoer) and operated by Qbuzz one of the many new companies after the privatisation wave that hit the nation a while ago. Route Nº 2 from origin is a circle line through the innercity with narrow streets less suitable for standard busses. This electrobus Nº 4301 (Optare) is the answer and waiting at the station for a next ride.

Following on from the shots of these electrobuses posted by aecregent, I have dug out some I have got.

Although this anonymously published postcard was posted to Paris from Notting Hill in October 1913, the photograph dates from several years earlier. The view shows Fleet Street looking east towards St. Paul's Cathedral and Ludgate Circus and the photographer has caught the first electric powered bus to successfully work the streets of London. The London Electrobus Co Ltd was formed in April 1906 and provided bus services employing buses powered by lead acid batteries until 1910. This particular bus is on a route from Liverpool Street to Victoria and all for a 2d fare, the fares were so low that other bus companies reduced their fares to compete in 1908. Also in July 1908 an Electrobus was involved in a fatal accident in Whitehall when a Foreign Office civil servant deep in thought and not actually hearing the bus stepped in front of it near the United Services Club. The Electrobus also experimented with enclosed upper decks, the first buses to have enclosed upper decks. There was no objection from the Metropolitan Police because of the exceptionally low centre of gravity. Their objection to enclosed upper decks had always been and continued to be until the early 1920s that the bus could easily topple over because of high centres of gravity and instead of spilling their top deck passengers into the roadway, they would incur serious injuries against the enclosed roof. The Company encountered financial difficulties in 1910 and sold most of the fleet to Brighton and Hove District Council who operated them until 1917.

The Imperial International Exhibition
The Imperial International Exhibition was a world's fair held at the White City, London in 1909. The exhibition was opened by the Duke of Argyll on the 20th. May 1909, and continued for five months before closing in October.
This was the second of five exhibitions to be held at London's White City (following the Franco-British Exhibition and preceding the Japan–British Exhibition). It retained many of the 1908 exhibitions, but on larger grounds and with additional amusements including an alpine railway.
The exhibition gave the opportunity for visitors to reflect on the achievements of the three members of the recently agreed Triple Entente. As part of this, France displayed a Dahomey (now Benin) village; and Russia a Kalmuk camp.
Austria, China, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands and Persia also participated.
London Electrobus Company
So what else happened on the day that the card was posted?
Well, the 3rd. January 1910 marked the demise of the London Electrobus Company.
The London Electrobus Company was a bus operator that ran a fleet of electric buses in London. The electrobus was the first practical battery-electric bus, and a forerunner of the electric buses that are experiencing a major resurgence in the 21st. century.
The company, which was first registered in April 1906, started running a service of electrobuses between London's Victoria Station and Liverpool Street on the 15th. July 1907. The clean and quiet electrobuses were popular with the travelling public.
The company introduced a number of innovations - it was the first double-decker bus operator to experiment with a roof on the upper deck. At the peak of its success in late 1908, the company had 20 or so buses in operation, and it had started to run a second bus route from Victoria to Kilburn.
However, the London Electrobus Company was beset with financial chicanery throughout its short existence. By the 3rd. January 1910 the electrobus service had ceased, and the company went into liquidation amid accusations of fraud.
Eight of the electrobuses were sold to the Brighton, Hove and Preston United Company. The rest of the London electrobuses were broken up for spares.
The Brighton bus company was taken over by Thomas Tilling in 1916, and the last electrobus in Brighton ran in April 1917. Tilling said that a lack of spare parts had forced it to stop running electrobuses.
