On Sunday, April 28th from 12–4pm, the public was invited to the New Museum (as part of Ideas City) to dissect and unravel the news of the day. The assembled group decided that the media sells fear and celebrates a police state, as evident in the narratives surrounding the Boston bombings.
We created a response that uses the bodies of participants to create a mobile sculpture. Each participant had the opportunity to offer a prompt to the group (i.e. a series of words preferably but not exclusively limited to the subject above), and the group would respond by freezing in a pose. Then, that same participant could make edits to each body and re-join the group.

This shows the elastic that I added to make the turban fit a little more snugly. The cuff folds up and hides the elastic.

I stitched across the waisband at centre back and slightly to the back of where the side seams would be to stop the elastic rolling and twisting inside it.

We'll return to Orangeburg, NY on the 25th anniversary that my family moved from Rutgers Road East, site of our first home til I was 9. We'll park the car near the cemetery and walk through the winding suburban streets, past the Deaf Child Area and up the hill until we find the old house where I grew up. Along the way, I'll tell stories about what I remember while we re/discover this neighborhood together.

7. Cut 2 pieces of 1/4" elastic 5 inches long, and one piece 4 inches long, fold the ends under about 1/4 inch and pin IN the seam allowance at the marks as indicated on the pattern, then tack down with a few zig-zag passes.
Outhaul elastic joined with 2 small inglefield clips that fit through the clew eye, to stop the clew twisting (if your just using a hook on one side)

A very happy Maya wearing her skirt which was the first project from our Kids Clothing class. So delighted with the result. Need to learn how to include a lining next. Also as Maya and Zoe are very skinny, I found that 22 " for elastic was too loose for her and had her try it on her before I sewed.
She even looked at the sewing and said, "Mum how do you sew so nice and straight" and she popped the skirt on right away and says she loves it. :-D. A very excited ME !!!
