Flowerheads are open panicles (12-25 cm long) that
are less than twice as long as broad; all branches
have hairs in their axils.
Spikelets are 7-12 mm long
and have 6-14 florets that gape at maturity; giving
the spikelet a saw edge appearance.
Taken a few weeks ago, on a walk to Nanaimo Skytrain Station. I did fotograf the entire heart shape, but somehow part of it got corrupted, hence the crop.

My teenage years were spent in Detroit. A city in continual decline. One that refuses to lose itself to those who fetishize its ruins. It’s been 10 years since my return. I do it carefully. Can I speak for this place where I no longer live? Yes. And I’m taking you with me.
“[Detroit] belongs to those who have memories of it, and make memories in it.” -Liz, a Detroit resident, New York Times, Aug. 4, 2010.
I invite you to walk with me in Detroit. We’ll start in New York and hop on a plane to the Motor City. I’ve got some shit to work out--you too? Pack your baggage. We'll come back with less.
For 3 days and 2 nights, we’ll sculpt, listen, light and sing. We’ll give ourselves to decay and possibility through techniques derived from cultural anthropology, performance art and experimental theater. We will make monuments with our bodies in response to public spaces; project words on to abandoned buildings to give them voices; volunteer at an urban farm to feed the hungry; and cleanse one another with the help of Tanaka Min ritualistic practices.
Caretaker: Tracy Hazas

ligule of Elastic Grass (Eragrostis tenuifolia) near Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. Photographed on 12 May 2009.
Thanks to Tony Rodd for identification.
I took this photo the way it was composed because I wanted to show the unique features of elastic bands. Elastic bands are special because has many uses. Elastics can be used to tie hair during a hot day, used as bracelets as accessory and many more. In addition, this photo is interesting to me because there are many colors and it truly conveys the emotion I am trying to share: vibrancy. Lastly, I took this shot in macro mode.

Once a bohemian center, the West Village has long lost itself to its own charm. And like Istanbul, the neighborhood adheres to no grid system. Subjective Contours aims to explore its present state, reveling in the neighborhood's unintentional geometry and flattening out its space via framing, drawing, and performing. Visual artists Hayal Pozanti (Turkey) and Todd Shalom (USA) will lead participants in reimagining plans for the neighborhood.
This walk holds 12 people and will be held in English, though Hayal also speaks Turkish. The walk has been commissioned for "Istanbul Week" by Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
