i've had this mac tool box for maybe 10 years, and i can say for certain that this thing is super-sturdy (despite the fact that our movers dropped the top box and dented the back of it so badly that it doesn't even sit level any more, and the drawers just barely close, and bah.. jerks), but it's just not big enough. i need shelves. and a workbench. and more tools, and..
and, i guess i might also need to figure out a better place for the pizzicato five "the audrey hepburn complex" album that larry got me when he was in japan
To properly attach the 2x4s to the wall we need to use lug bolts. Because of my double drywall I got myself 4" bolts. The drill beside it is the 7/32 drill bit to make the pilot.
Stackable storage bins used to hold sand paper that I got from Mt Greenwood Hardware Stores, Going Out of Business Sale.
I also got several packs of 40 Grit Sand Paper.
This picture I'm pretty sure I actually just took so I could vent my frustration that my drillbits kept breaking off, but I kinda like how it turned out as a photograph actually.
Totally not an attempt at building a Rock Raiders thing, these three little MOCs are something if expect to be in a set from a mining themed line, with each set centering around different characters. Eli here has a plasma-blade armed, rock cutting ATV, a quick scouting buggy, and a fold out stand with armour and tools.
The big wheels are from Star Diamond, and the slitted cheese slopes are from Kre-O.

I love the richness of oak and leather. The chair on the left is one I found in the trash after a neighbor moved and left it on the curb. It has large flat arms, perfect for setting down a cup of tea.
The chest in the middle came from a garage sale... $25! Solid oak and it used to be a display piece in a hardware store. It's marked in gold letters... Union Twist Drill Co., Athol, Mass. U.S.A. and Twist Drills and Milling Cutters. It is filled with small drawers.
On the right is an original early Danish Modern chair by Borge Mogensen, very low slung and incredibly comfortable even for the tallest man! A sister chair is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This one came my way when my son-in-law saw it at a garage sale for $20 and knew "it would be my thing."
I knew the chair when he brought in from the car. I had studied the history of furniture and immediately said, "Mogensen!"

A small series around my school's workshop.
In two weeks time I'm done with school forever. It's a pretty daunting thought.
I'm collecting paleomagetic core samples to test for rotation post-magnetization. Trace iron minerals record remanent magnetism, aligned with the earth's magnetic field at the time of depositon. If magnetic orientations splay over the width of the anticline, then vertical-axis rotation must have occurrred as the Sierra Madre Oriental deformed. The coring drill, at left, is a modified chainsaw; the can is water used to lubricate the diamond-tipped drillbit. Scanned slide.
Underwater scene made out of tools and other metal scraps found in my basement. Arranged in photoshop.
Materials: cement floor, wire mesh, jar, screw top, LED flashlight, paint chipper, shelf holder, lightbulb, drillbit, drillbit holder, metal tube, rusted metal bridge
Close up and personal with a titanium-coated drill bit. Love the shallow DOF that my camera can now achieve.
Taken with iPhone 3GS with home-made macro lens.

Returning to the workshop for some photos. I thought the drill bit collection might be a bit interesting. Lit with a speedlite bounced on the wooden ceiling.

Having already turned down the backs of the wheels to match the thickness of my other steel wheels, the centres are then drilled out to 13mm, having already been drilled once, centring the drillbit held in the tailstock chuck through the 3-jaw chuck to ensure they were concentric. The reverse set of chuck jaws have been fitted to enable the wheel to fit inside the jaws.
