The Collared Inca (Coeligena torquata) is distributed in the three mountain ranges of Colombia, between 2.000 and 3.000 meters above sea level (6.500 - 11.500 feet AMSL), in humid and cloud forest, foraging alone in lower to mid levels in thickets at borders.

To take this picture, I had to wait patiently for more than an hour, until the precise moment in which the hummingbird visited this flower of Kniphofia uvaria, an introduced species, native to southern Africa that is grown in gardens for ornamental purposes.

In addition to this, you can see some mites in the hummingbird's beak, which take advantage of every floral visitor such as birds, bats, bees, and beetles to travel from one flower to another.

Giving Solar Lanterns as a prize to the best performing students is not a new initiative of Pervaiz Lodhie. In previous years Lodhie Foundation has extended his initiative to various schools in Sindh and Punjab.

Inspiring with the idea, Mr. Jonathan Mitchell PHD President and Founder of Concentric development Inc. invited Pervaiz Lodhie to extend his program of distributing solar lanterns as prizes in PEP schools. Pervaiz Lodhie has immediately offered to gift 249 lanterns, allowing for three prizes per school. His suggestion was to distribute them to 1)Top student of the year 2) Top most improved student of the year 3) Top best attendance student of the year.

Mr. Lodhie also suggested encouraging the prize recipients to teach a short literacy course to family members or relatives.

During his recent visit to Pakistan in March 2016, Pervaiz visited the two schools in Mirpurkas and Tando Allahyar and distributed the solar lanterns to the 7 best students. Remaining 242 lanterns will be distributed in first and second week of April 2016

The Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis) is a water kingfisher and is found widely distributed across Africa and Asia. Their black and white plumage, crest and the habit of hovering over clear lakes and rivers before diving for fish makes it distinctive. Males have a double band across the breast while females have a single gorget that is often broken in the middle. They are usually found in pairs or small family parties. When perched, they often bob their head and flick up their tail.

This kingfisher is about 17 cm long and is white with a black mask, a white supercilium and black breast bands. The crest is neat and the upperparts are barred in black. Several subspecies are recognized within the broad distribution. The nominate race is found in sub-Saharan Africa, extending into West Asia. A former subspecies syriaca is considered as merely a larger northern bird of the nominate species. Subspecies leucomelanura is found from Afghanistan east into India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Laos. The subspecies travancoreensis of the Western Ghats is darker with the white reduced. Subspecies C. r. insignis is found in Hainan and southeastern China and has a much larger bill. Males have a narrow second breast-band while females have a single broken breast band

Is the most widely distributed owl on the planet spanning through out nearly all of the Americas and into parts of Africa and Asia. With a wingspan that can reach 43 inches they are light brown and white in color with a very rounded or heart shaped face. They hunt for small animals like mice by flying low to the ground, hovering in one spot and then diving when prey is sighted. With many subspecies across their range they are considered a species of least concern and thrive easily as long as food sources stay plentiful. Unlike many species they do not "hoot" but instead give a harsh scream that can be ear piercing at close range, this is used as a mating call but also as defense against potential predators.

Making Co-Op Marketing Work Across Distributed Sales Channels -

bit.ly/oUTz19

Let’s be honest – how many national and global brands really think their co-op marketing dollars get used appropriately by their channel partners? Very few. That’s even if such programs are getting used at all.

It’s amazing how often we talk to companies with distributed sales channels that know their co-op marketing systems and programs are failing. Millions of dollars are spent with the creative agencies or marketing consultants to develop these programs, but adoption usually remains poor or the appropriations of co-op marketing spend aren’t used in the best interest of the disbursing entity.

Co-op program adoption is usually poor due to the following reasons:

— The co-op advertising program reimburses the local marketer rather than fronting the co-op money, thus requiring a much smaller business entity to be out-of-pocket of precious cash

— The guidelines and rules to qualify for co-op reimbursement resembles a legal document rather than a partner support initiative

— Manual processes mean slow turn-times in requesting, registering, receiving approval and/or disbursement

The list goes on and on.

Its unfortunate that even when the intent of both parties participating in the co-op lifecycle have good intentions, sometimes the process can result in contentious outcomes. The result may be that a channel partner ends up walking away disgruntled, OR the brand acquiesces their position in order to avoid the former. Even in the absence of a fix, brands choose to continue to offer the same co-op programs year after year to their distributed sales channels. The justification I guess is the cost of not doing anything is worse than doing something incorrectly.

However, there IS an alternative – and that alternative greatly improves the success of these programs. The first step is tying the Content and marketing execution of these programs into the same technology and/or process that disburses the funds.

If you would like someone to add some commentary to the presentation, give us a call and we’ll be happy to walk you through it.

My sketches assembled for the May 2016 Creative Commons Certification project meeting in Washington DC.

My notes that accompany these are published at cogdog.github.io/ccc-map/

The films distributed under the Rollei Brand by MACO Products, Germany, include former film formula's of Agfa company. The Rollei INFRARED 400 would differs from the Retro 400S (which iis ndeed the formula of former Agfa Aviphot 400) version by increased sensitivity in the near-infrared band. The film is side-marked 'INFRARED" but the processing times are the same as the 400S version.

On July, 29, 2024, Lyon, France, I decided to test a roll of this INFRARED version in a photo session at Par de la Tête d'Or by a quite warm (36°C) and sunny day. The results are quite close to my person IR-photography sessions made past year with the 400S version.

I took the same camera I used past year for infrared photography with one of my two Minolta's X-700 (the one called « China » period 1993-1999)

The Agfa Aviphot 400 film was originally designed for aerial photography for its capacity to differentiate green tones and to give a good clarity reducing in part the atmospheric haze. The Agfa Aviphot sensivity curve starts to decrease at 670 nm to fall at zero around 820 nm. The band starting at 780 (up to 2500nm) is the beginning of the "near infra-red" band of the electromagnetic spectrum.

The Minolta X-700 SLR camera was fitted with a normal lens Minolta MD 1:1.2 f=50mm. The lens was equipped with a 55mm screw-on IR filter with a cutoff at 720nm. Since the filter is so dark for a comfortable through-the-lens viewing, a FOCA "Universel" external view-finder (Made in France in the 50’s) was used for an easy framing. The X-700 has also a Multi-Function Back allowing diverse pricing modes. The date was manually printed before view 1 and the time of the end of film after the last frame.

The film was exposed for 40 ISO using my Minolta Autometer III external light meter equipped with a selective 10° finder. The X-700 light metering system was not used and the camera was operated in the manual mode using the exposure times of 1/60s or 1/125s for f/4 to f/11

Parc de la Tête d'Or, July 29, 2024

France

After completion, the film was processed using Adox Adonal developer (equivalent to Agfa Rodinal) at dilution 1+25, 20°C for 10min30. The photograms were then digitalized using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were then processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.

All frames of the film are presented in two different processing versions (normal or with the "clarity" parameter of LR reduced by -100% to mimic the traditional glow of former KODAK Infrared films)

About the camera and the lens :

Minolta X-700 SLR was manufactured in Japan and first released in 1981, and delocalized in China from 1993 to 1999. I bought them in early 2022 from eBay accompanied with their motor drive MD I and other accessories. The MD 1:1.2 f=50mm is part of my Minolta lens collection and was purchased as a vintage lens on line in the mid 2010's.

Monareliefye.org has distributed today 200 school bags to orphan and IDPs students in al-Mutnabi and al-Manar schools in Wadi Ahmed area in the capital Sana'a.

Our project was funded by an anonymous Kuwaiti donor along with the NGO’s online fund-raising campaign.

The two schools are located at Wadi Ahmed area, the most populated area in the capital Sana'a with almost 100,000 people there. Most families are poor and they can't get their food easily. The area also full of IDPs fled from many provinces in the country due to the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

IDPs chose to live in this area because the cost of rent for houses there is a little bit low comparing to houses in other areas in Sana'a.

Mona Relief's ground crew decided to deliver pupils there school bags due to the situation of their families who they are not able to buy them, bags, notebooks, pens or anything.

Most families there are under the poverty line and they can't provide their children daily food.

As we started distribution school bags to pupils in al-Manar and al-Mutnabi schools, we noticed that each class contains from 80-130 students comparing to the other schools in the capital Sana'a. However, the reason behind that is that there is only two schools in that area which are very close to all students living within.

The huge number of students in the Wadi Ahmed area reflects the suffer of students in each class. We have seen students keep standing all time of his studying day, some other sitting on the ground as others sitting on windows of their classes. Even if there is empty classes, there is enough chairs for all students and if there is chairs and classes, there is a lack of teachers to learn them.

Pictures here taken today by Mona Relief during school bags distribution showing you the real situation of education and students in Wadi Ahmed area in the capital Sana'a.

Facts about education in Yemen

Millions of children out of school and scores of teachers unpaid - At least two million children, nearly 27 per cent of school-age children are out of school, according to UNICEF. More than 1,690 schools are currently unfit for use due to conflict-related damage, hosting of IDPs or occupation by armed groups. About 2.3 million children need support to access education, including 1.1 million in areas that are acutely affected by conflict. Months of unpaid salaries have aggravated matters. More than 166,000 teachers have had problems receiving their salaries since October 2016 - about 73 per cent of the total number of teachers in Yemen.
