The fourth meeting of the Advisory Committee took place from 1-3 March 2023 and served as an opportunity to shape the PDD’s next phase, post-2023 and elaborate input to the strategy review process.

The meeting allowed participants to exchange and share their latest work and ongoing or planned initiatives around the topic of disaster displacement. Above all, it provided the opportunity to plan future collaborative engagement and formulate strategic advice for the PDD’s next steps.

Displacement KERN COUNTY

Government officials and humanitarian actors from Uganda and Kenya have concluded a three-day simulation exercise near the Mount Elgon ranges in Mbale, eastern Uganda. This exercise was aimed to test and validate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on cross-border disaster displacement. Its objective was to offer pragmatic guidance for the two countries on improving collaboration in preparation for, and response to, sudden-onset hazards such as floods and landslides, which occur frequently in this region.

Displacement activities on MTBs. All good :)

Parkour is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. It is meant to help one overcome obstacles, which can be anything in the surrounding environment — from branches and rocks to rails and concrete walls. Parkour focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop one's body and mind to be able to overcome obstacles in an emergency.

Activists / neighbors / people concerned about predatory development participated at a One Art Community Center meeting on how to stop a billionaire land grab neighboring the popular community venue.

Located at 1431-39 N. 52nd St,

One Art has beautiful plans to develop Bibleway Church, next door. Our community-centered vision is now threatened by German Yakobov / Haverford Developers who have been actively buying up property elsewhere in West Philadelphia and now have plans for this property. How do we protect ourselves against billionaire land grabs?

How do we fight back? How can people help?

This was an hour-long beginning for this newest Philly neighborhood struggle against predatory developers.

Kho Khongsai lost both her husband and her son in landmine explosions in Manipur's Chandel district while they were out farming. She now lives in the camp for the displaced in Manipur's Moreh town. With no source of income and having been rendered homeless within the borders of her home district, she is one of the many displaced who face bleak futures.
