The poet, William Wordsworth temporarily lodged here while attending the local grammar school, in Hawkshead, Cumbria.

The Last Leaf

Swaying to the rhythm of the breeze,

The solitary leaf, hung by its stem,

Orange, crinkled, a little naïve,

Though it had lived to see the winter,

And had watched as his brothers left him behind.

It remembered the song of the Nightingale,

As it sung through the night,

Its song heard by few, but still sung with much blithe

Sitting nearby on the very same tree,

Oh, the nostalgia had set in much too clearly.

A home the leaf had, and many friends too,

Rustling in the wind, whispering with trees,

And thinking, just thinking of forgotten memories,

Life was a lively affair with many changes unseen,

But always felt as one season changed to another.

Winter was upon the horizon, waiting to lash down,

A chilling breeze left the solitary leaf astound

But he held on, with all his might,

That someday he may see the dear sunlight,

And be surrounded once again with rustling laughter.

Alas, with a gust of wind, the end had arrived,

His crinkled stem could hang on no longer,

And he was blown into the sky, far out and above,

He knew now what it felt to fly and touch the clouds,

Before he slowly fluttered to the ground, content.

Poet Simon Vinkenoog & wife Edith Ringnalda.

Simon Vinkenoog (b. july 18, 1928, Amsterdam -d. july 12, 2009, Amsterdam) was a Dutch poet and writer. He was the editor of the anthology Atonaal (Atonal), which launched the Dutch "Fifties Movement".

In 2004 he was chosen as Dichter des Vaderlands, or "Poet Laureate", for the Netherlands.

On July 11, 2009 Vinkenoog was admitted to an Amsterdam hospital after suffering a seizure. He died the following day.

These skellies seem to be made from bleach bottles! They are hanging on a house not far from mine. The first thing I thought of when I took the photo was "comedy club"!

Edited to add link: They are probably actually milk jugs (who has that many bleach jugs on hand?). I found this tutorial on making Milk Jug Skeletons!!

It’s almost hard to believe that we’ve been watching Ethan Hawke for more than 30 years. Maybe that’s because he’s not the kind of actor that’s interested in churning out summer blockbusters featuring superheroes or giant robots taking over the world. Sure, Hawke has been in a number of mega successes-think Dead Poets Society or Training Day. But one gets the feeling that he’s more at home on a small Broadway stage than he is on a Hollywood soundstage. In addition to acting, Ethan Hawke is a novelist, a theater company founder, a nurturer of young writing talent, a philanthropist, a father, and a director of theater and film. Hawke directed the new film “Blaze”, about the late musician Blaze Foley, and is getting rave reviews for his acting in "First Reformed". Super nice guy, we bonded over our mutual love of the Merry Pranksters and the Grateful Dead, and I cracked him up big time when I asked "Where can I get cheekbones like that? Cuz...my people never had those kind of cheekbones!"

Caught on wire.

a hundred and forty nine

Late in the afternoon after my accident, I decided I had enough of lying around feeling sorry for myself and decided to head out.

It felt good spending some time with dead poets despite sporadic spates of dizziness. Oh, it felt good hanging out with undead friends too.

That guy was from neither group, he was just a random stranger who wandered into my shot. I have to say he adds a nice touch, as if he were complementing the bookshelves much like curtains complement a room.
