Arrival by ferry to the Suomenlinna fortress island on an extremely cold winter morning at sunrise with sea fog and icy Baltic sea, the Suomenlinna church (Suomenlinnan kirkko) & lighthouse and historical barracks behind frosty trees on the background. The Suomenlinna fortress island has been an UNESCO World Heritage Site from 1991 onwards and it is located in Helsinki Finland.

Starting for D.I.R. this morning, I was hoping for a colorful sunrise, and that's what I got. This image was taken 15 minutes before sunrise. The tree in the foreground is Pond Cypress (Taxodium ascendens).

Mittlerweile sind die Blätter gefallen und die Landschaft zeigt sich deutlich trister als noch vor einigen Wochen. Das Wetter ist oft ein Mix aus Sonne und Wolken, wobei die Bewölkung meist überwiegt. Genau dieses Wetter gibt aber oft die besten Lichtsituationen ab. Am 30. November 2019 kurz vor Untergang zeigte sich die Sonne noch ein letztes Mal und beleuchtete mit einer grandiosen Wolkenstimmung den großen kahlen Baum bei Neumarkt. Einige Minuten später wurde dann zufrieden die Heimreise angetreten.
The leaves have fallen
The leaves have now fallen and the landscape is much more dreary than it was a few weeks ago. The weather is often a mix of sun and clouds, with cloud cover usually predominating. It is precisely this weather that often provides the best lighting situations. On November 30, 2019, shortly before sunset, the sun appeared one last time and illuminated the large bare tree near Neumarkt with a magnificent cloud atmosphere. A few minutes later I happily started our journey home.
[Iceland 5/20] Seljalandsfoss Waterfall in South Iceland. an amazing sight and major tourist attraction, with water plummeting 60m down to the river below. if you look closely on the far right of the photo you can see a person walking round which gives some clue to the extent of its scale.

May 19, 2025, at Dinner Island Ranch, Hendry County, Florida, USA.
The cluster of ten palms (Sabal palmetto) at D.I.R. is a favorite subject for a landscape photo. Although photographed many times by many, every sunrise is unique. Obscured by fog and mist for a few minutes after sunrise, the sun finally begins to break through. The low-lying mist is typical at this location in the early morning.
