Salts Mill, Saltaire unesco heritage site, Shipley, West Yorkshire. Home of the David Hockney gallery.
David Hockney (born 9 July 1937) is an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He's considered one of the most influential British artists of the 20th century.
I took Kitty to PetSmart this morning to get her nails trimmed. Afterward I came home and Darek dropped me off at Bob & Max's on his way to work. Bob, Max & I had lunch at The Chicken Ranch before heading to the Palm Springs Art Museum to see the David Hockney exhibit. I was a fun day.
'Winter', Woldgate on the Yorkshire Wolds. A lane that he revisited with his crew in all four seasons. Nine digital cameras made vieos. They were set up on a rig on the front of an SUV, each camera slightly out of line with the rest, both in position and time set so these fragments are asynchronous. The illusion of the slow drive along the road with changing pieces of the jigsaw is just mesmerising. I have seen this before in the Royal Academy but this is the first time I have seen it with all four projections on the walls of a room simultaneously.

David Hockney created this picture (on his iPad), from the garden of his house in Normandy, France. He then sent it, along with eight others, to Will Gompertz (Arts Editor for BBC News) for everyone to see and enjoy.

The smell of lilies always suffuses the 1853 Gallery. Why don't other art galleries do things like this?

Bethan has been doing cubism in art at school. This weekend's art homework was to recreate David Hockney's style of photographic collage. The subject chosen was 'Daddy with soft toys'.
It was surprisingly difficult to get right. My camera was not up to the task so Bethan had her first lesson in how to handle Anne's DSLR. The final image has captured my five shoulders quite well.

The first project project in my monthly uploadings.
I've found that these are reallly fun to do! I shot more than 9 in hopes of having a perfect 10, but some didn't work out as planned.
The idea sprouted from Sophomore Seminar, when I was totally stuck with "When I Dream." I tried to switch my idea to do "Close to Home" but didn't want the letter grade drop. I still shot when I went home the next weekend, just to see what I could shoot.
Out came the hockney-esques.
Driving my truck down one of my favorite roads in my hometown, Gilardi Rd, one that isn't paved or made for two vehicles.
The Church at Salts Mill in Saltaire, Bradford, Yorkshire. Part of the World Heritage Site that now houses shops, a museum and a collection of David Hockney's original work.
The mill was first opened in 1853 and completed in 1876 and a village for the workers grew up alongside.
It's well worth a visit and photographing.
