I've added a few new colors to the palette I use most often for my Postcard for the Lunch Bag animals. Mostly some convenience colors to make things quicker, and some yellows that won't go green easily.

It’s all I have to bring today -
This, and my heart beside –
This, and my heart, and all the fields –
And all the meadows wide –
Be sure you count – should I forget
Some one the sum could tell –
This, and my heart, and all the Bees
Which in the Clover dwell

Sketching Stuff Challenge: SKETCH A ZANY IDEA!
Did you know the first proof of the yo-yo is a Greek painting that dates back to 440 BC, but it is believed to be much older, and probably originated in China or the Philippines? The Greek painting in question didn’t have a pelican on it, though, lol.

Did you know wombats are the second largest marsupials? Patrick, who lived at Ballarat Wildlife Park, was the heaviest wombat on record, at almost 84 lbs, and he lived to be 31 years old.

#DoodlewashSEPTEMBER2024 prompt: Barn, Shoes.
Did you know that around the 2nd century AD, the Romans used ‘hipposandals’ on their horses, a thick metal plate secured to the hoof with leather laces? They weren’t very comfortable for the horses and soon they began using nailed shoes. By the way, in Ancient Greek, hippo translated to horse.

Did you know the Great Pyramid of Giza, built between 2,550 - 2,490 B.C. was the tallest human-built structure until the Lincoln Cathedral was built in 1311 AD.

This is my newest travel watercolor set. Made from an old the box of a student grade watercolors, I replaced the insides with half-pans filled with Daniel Smith watercolor sticks. The old plastic palette still worked so that stayed along with a tiny, little sponge and my Niji water brushes. I'm excited to take it into the field and play with it!

It's not about the flowers; they are meant to be Nasturtiums and I didn't do too well with them. In the painting they are too large. In reality, the flower heads are a bit smaller than the leaves.
I simply wanted to add some bold colours to brighten things up a bit. Also, I felt I had enough leaves to deal with. Already after the first layer of paint for the negative painting stage, things became a bit confusing for me.
Apart from practicing negative painting, I also practiced turn-ups on the leaves; that's why all turn-ups look the same :)
Overall, it worked out quite well. I just need to practice more flower painting and, especially, be careful and patient with details.

Note:
Saunders Waterford Classic Watercolour paper, med. 300gsm, is resistant to feathering and is suitable for ink, printing and watercolour.
Very nice to paint on as long one doesn't do/need feathering.

Did you know the boater hat was also known as a straw boater, basher, skimmer, the English Panama, cady, katie, canotier, somer, or sennit hat?

I did the first wash with a #6 round brush, then once dry, went back over it with a #4 round to show a deeper shade.

Talk and Demo yesterday on TRAVEL SKETCHING ESSENTIALS at Daniel Smith Store in Seattle. Thank you to all who attended!
I am still struggling with:
- Impatience
- overworking
- running out of mixed colours and inability to match colours used in the studies
- paint drying out in the mixing bowls
- choosing colours for darker areas and shadows, i.e. neutralized
colours (in this study I used purple which, with the Quinacridone Gold/Burnt Sienna mix made some kind of brown).
I still do graphite studies mainly because I quite like drawing in graphite. Maybe I am going to do another drapery study. Painting folds is so difficult.

Just when I thought I was set with my supplies, I found this DS watercolor palette. They show a *video* of how to use it! What artist can resist visual aids? I do love it for the extra mixing area, but it is a bit heavier than my plastic one. So what? Starting a new sketchbook, using my new palette, life is good!
My main palette is American Journey Cavalcade Porcelain Palette. Here are the colors which I use.
