I know, it's a dying flower. But it's the first picture taken with my brand new Canon EOS 450D. All my other pictures have been with a little Powershot "point & click". I'm sure I'll never do the new kit justice, but it's fun to play and to try.

Anyway, this was the closest thing to hand when I fitted the lens, so here you are, a dead rose for you!

Macro Mondays Crisp

Found this leaf in the corner of our garage, overlooked in the clean-up this spring. It is totally dried out and crisp enough that it started breaking apart as I composed this shot.

Taken with my Sony 18-55mm with 12mm extension tube attached. The lighting was provided by holding by fingers over an LED flashlight and directing the light through the cracks in my fingers.
