Cover ebook The China Study Cookbook by LeAnne Campbell, T. Colin Campbell & Steven Campbell Disla in ift.tt/1WHnNU9
The front cover of a cookbook from Spry Shortening. There is no date, but we think it is from the 1930s. Some of the people are a bit unusual. Thanks to Steve for the date.
I love "Better Homes and Gardens" cookbooks. Most of them have classic illustrations and fonts that perfectly mirror the design and fashion of the times. And the recipes are pretty good, too.
Cooking Everyday was inspired by my love for cooking and the importance on preparing food for yourself everyday. The book includes some of my recipes, as well as consumer
tips, health facts, and advice on cooking. Illustrations for the cover were drawn by hand and made up of kitchen utensils that you would use for daily cooking. I literally took
items out of my cabinets and drawers, put them in front of me, drew them, and then made the drawings into a vector pattern using Illustrator. This pattern can be used for collateral to be sold with the cookbook, such as hot pads, aprons and towels. One type-
face was chosen and used throughout the entire book for its playful personality and legibility. The color pallet was created to resemble vegetable soup, since the recipes in the book are mostly vegetarian.
Although it is widely, and justifiably, criticized for cultural appropriation, Thug Kitchen is an excellent and useful cookbook.
Not only is the Banana Milk Shake fun to drink, it's also fun to make!
From 'Bananas...how to serve them' (1941)
"This booklet talks of many things, and has been designed to offer the very necessary basic information, so often needed, and not readily available. From page 28 to page 60 you will find a section on "how to do it" with all the reference tables the average homemaker needs"

this is my oldest cookbook. it was printed in 1939 and was given to me by my grandmother last year. she got it as a gift for subscribing to the san francisco examiner (later known as the oakland examiner) newspaper in 1939.
I was so excited to find this book in a box outside my door! I am impressed by the speedy delivery from NZ. I've been flipping through the book all morning, I don't know what I will try first..... I've been researching and itching to try making GF sourdough, so maybe her recipe will inspire me to get a starter ready this weekend.
New cookbook by Emma Galloway, author of one of my very favorite whole foods/GF cooking blogs, My Darling Lemon Thyme.
ETA: I was let out of work early so I sat out in the chilly air but warm sun, reading through the recipes. The teacher I work for drove me back to my apartment since we were done so early. We had a really good talk. I felt lighter afterwards, having said out loud and admitted some important things about myself. Things I knew but hadn't verbalized in quite that way. It was refreshing/a revelation.

A scrapbook of cuttings and handwritten recipes compiled by Nina Gladys Barker (née Alexander) who was born in the late 1880s and died ca. 1975 and was the wife of Robert Beacroft Barker, merchant and politician in Jamaica. The recipes were probably compiled between 1940 (note that some early recipes were written on the reverse of the letterhead of the "Jamaica Central War Assistance Committee") and 1960. Many are of Jamaican origin. Most are sweet. There are manuscript recipes in other hands but most are in that of Nina Gladys Barker herself. Nina's only child is alluded to in the recipe, "Bruce's birthday cake".
Polpi alla Babbo
Ceci e cannelini
The octopus portion of the recipe is from the Babbo Cookbook. The ceci and cannellini beans recipe is from my head.
