As we observed World Water Day this week, we are constantly reminded of the many people who do not have access to clean drinking water. Lack of clean drinking water causes many children to fall sick due to water-borne diseases. But it is heart-warming to know that through the support of our donors, World Vision has been able to make access to clean water a reality in the lives of people, especially children, in rural India. Here are a few of their stories.

Kasturi and her children were heading towards a life of

misery and unhappiness. Living in the constant shadow of

fear, shame and uncertainty, life seemed meaningless.

Daily food was a struggle. Kasturi began working as a

maidservant to help her family survive.

But for her husband Arumugam, who was addicted to

alcoholism, none of these problems seemed to matter. Of

course, it was his wife and children who bore the brunt

of his addiction.

At this desperate moment, Kasturi’s plight was brought

to the notice of the staff at World Vision. The staff began

to counsel Arumugam towards right living, giving up

alcohol, and earning income for the family. Gradually,

Arumugam’s life began to change. He gave up his addiction to alcohol.

To provide the family with the means to survive, we gave them EDA of Rs. 10000 to set up a petty shop. Both

of them are now involved in the work at the petty shop and they earn Rs. 250 per day.

Because of support of people like you, families are being transformed. Today, Arumugam is a responsible father and a husband. They are living happily.
