At Beddington, south of London, a housing development known as BedZED (Beddington Zero energy development) was designed from the start to produce little waste of any sort. It was built on a depolluted plot of land, previously used by industry, and recycled materials were used in its construction.

What do you think and feel about color in photography? Do you like it vibrant, subdued, contrasty, balanced.... or not at all? What colors do you prefer? Why is that, you think?

With Rememberance Day just over two weeks away I thought some history was in order.
In Calgary, Signal Hill is something of a landmark, a hub of retail shops, located along two major traffic arteries. Not being a native of Calgary I have asked many people why these numbers are here and what they mean ... no one really knew, some thought it was to signal approaching planes ... though that did not explain what the numbersmeant. I finally researched it and it is much more interesting than that. These are the regiment numbers of the Alberta contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force from WWI. These soldiers hauled 16,000 stones from the river to mark their battalion numbers on this hill. Typical for WWI, very few of these soldiers came back; those who did requested that the provincial government make this hill an historic site in memory of the fallen ... the saddest part of the story is that it took 73 years for the provincial government to do so and none of the soldiers were alive to see it.

Staff Sgt. William McKay from the 124th Security Forces Squadron participates in a Shoot, Move, Communicate course that teaches proper cover and communication skills for specific scenarios. Here the Airman controls a building, and then takes cover in the doorway, communicating his next move to two other guardsmen. The specialized training took place at the Orchard Combat Training Center near Gowen Field, Idaho, May 5. (Air National Guard photo by Tech. Sgt. Becky Vanshur)
Here's a design concept for a new method we're going to try out to obtain folk's contact information, help them start the process of membership, and share prayer requests and feedback. Basically a way for people to "communicate" with our staff and church leaders. These will replace a traditional "sign-in" book that we pass down each row every Sunday, and are sized to fit in a premade slot in the seat backs. Imagery has yet to be purchased, but just wanted to throw it up here to see what ya'll thought of the direction.

A single photo can communicate a mass of valuable information in seconds, hence the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words". Photos are integral to real estate marketing. Every listing has interior and exterior photos which enable buyers to quickly screen properties online but gaining a perspective of a neighbourhood, community and municipality is difficult from the ground. There's no better way to gain this perspective than from a 'birds eye' view using images taken at an 'oblique' angle to the ground from the air. So, on September 25, 2014, ViewPoint Realty, in partnership with Vision Air Services, took to the skies over HRM via helicopter with ace check pilot Fred Shuman and two photographers, Tim L'Esperance of Vision Air (also a pilot) and Sean McMullen, Director of Marketing and photographer at ViewPoint. We took more than 4,000 photos from altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 8,000 feet over the course of three hours. The weather was exceptional and we hope you agree that the resulting photos are too!
