Bought a couple of these to circulate--wondering what the loan period should be and whether or not to allow holds on them since that's not the most reliable way of timing material delivery...

Perhaps some other kind of reservation system--must be librarian friendly and easy to do. I suspect there will be a demand for these once we market the fact that we have them.

Thoughts?

I have been lost in Photoshop. I was having ideas in Lightroom and they led to edits and on to Photoshop CS and from there they are stretching out towards some notion of motion pictures. I have not used this Film Temperature Control System. I have been calling a film cooker. It looks superb and it comes with a three pin U.K. Plug fitted ready for accurate simmering film into tender toner and sharpish shadows and might fine highlights.

I have used two fonts to give °CineStill a look as it has in the packaging.

I forget to mention the soundtrack. Two tracks from those provided by my editing service with no composers and players listed. I have edited tracks individually and together. All errors on me and all praise to unknown originators of music. I wish that I had some names to praise.

After the Yochai Benkler talk at netpublics I was thinking about different architectures, idioms and metaphors to describe the circulation of culture that was not hierarchical and not an architecture that predisposed one to ethically challenging responses, like..big business shapes culture and defiance doesn't work. That sort of top-down architecture doesn't work very well for either explicating or creating sustainable/habitable near-future imaginaries. And the bottom-up one is more empowering, gives a voice to individual culture agents/hustlers of culture, but does not adequately always read the power dynamics in the hierarchy.

Thinking about, now, clusters/clouds, not hierarchies, of cultural production/circulation. Clouds of non-commercial production, some commercial production, and vectors by which these clusters/clouds circulate meaning, drift apart, gather bits from encounters and bumps, through their own motility (sorry how that Googles..it'll change..) dissipate, lie in wait, evaporate and re-circulate in revived (retro'd) form.

Mimi, Yochai and all the others at the dinner table deserve credit for discussing this.

Somewhere between the corporate tectonics and the bottom-up circulation/production of culture 2.0 is likely a more heterogenous geometry containing clouds that vector the dynamics of culture between and amongst all those (pretty much everyone who is a social being) who fab their social lives. Clusters of culture rather than hierarchies. Business practices are only one form of social practice, and no one practice can possibly determine another with such authority and certainty that either the bottom-up or the top-down hierarchical architecture holds up to strenuous argument.

Somewhat related to danah boyd's Friendster lost its steam, is MySpace just a fad essay and Abstract Dynamics TheirSpace essay.

The H-Bahn is a hanging railway, developed by Siemens, that circulates inside the campus of the Technische Universität Dortmund. It consists of a main line and a branch line, both single track, totaling 3.2 km in length and five stations. The first section (between Campus Campus Nord and Campus Süd) was opened in 1984. In 2003 the extensions to Eichlinghofen and Technologiezentrum opened. The cabins are suspended from the track and are moved by rubber wheels equipped with electric DC motors. The operation is fully automatic.

As digital technology advances at breakneck speed, Images are circulating quicker than ever before. But what is the status of the image in the digital era? We are joined by German art historian Dr. Hubert Burda for an examination of the “iconic turn” that our culture is undergoing.

A pioneer of the media industry will be presenting a concise history of images and how they function today in our digital world. Burda traces the connection between perspectival painting and the television, demonstrating how the image requires a frame, which in turn requires a material vehicle that in our era has become a non-material vehicle with its own formal parameters. Burda shows how images have always been linked to portability, but now migrate to an unprecedented degree, so that anyone with a personal device can globally disseminate, say, footage from a concert via Youtube.

In the latter half of the evening Dr. Burda will have a discussion with GAFFTA Chairman, Peter Hirshberg, about the effects of digital technologies on our society and the cultural implications that follow.

Julyan Bunney is one of the teachers in this photo and in 2012 some information was circulated on him in the OTs newsletter:

at the age of 87, he is still full of life and enjoying weekly sessions at the Oxford Bridge Club.

Julyan, a Cornishman, joined the school in 1949 at the start my second year, togeth- er with another West Countryman Rex Thomas. Both had served in The Royal Navy in the latter years of the Second World War, and both made an immediate impact on school life both in the classroom and on the rugby field. It was a time when discipline at the school was generally pretty unruly but Thomas quickly took charge of the school's Army cadet corps and within a year had also coached an unbeaten Colts rugby team. I was a minor player in that side, the stars being Paul Rich and the Maxton brothers, John, James and Drummond.

As for Bunney he immediately commanded respect without ever raising his voice His quietly authoritative manner was never challenged in class, and he was equally in control whether coaching or refereeing rugby.

A number of boys not gifted in the sciences were indebted to Julian Bunney for getting them through exams and into university. The name Anthony Tomlyn springs to mind. I was one of his failures. As I reminded him over lunch the only thing I ever remembered from his lessons was the definition of a calorie - the amount of heat re- quired to raise one cc of water through one degree centigrade. And a fat lot of good that did me.

Rex Thomas left after three years to teach at Solihull School and later became a successful headmaster in Cornwall. He died in 2010. Mr Bunney left in 1956, eventully becoming deputy Head at Carmel.
