Shot from the Highline park a 1.45-mile linear park built on top of an old, elevated historic freight railway in Manhattan.I don't know the street we're facing but all of the old warehouses (once owned by Nabisco in the 1990s) have been converted into trendy clubs,negative-space galleries, and condo lofts.
Looking down the chute at the Yellowstone River as it flows downstream of the falls at Inspiration Point. What a gorge this river has carved out of the yellow stone. While not as much of an epiphany as standing on the edge of The Grand Canyon, I'm always filled and thrilled with similar amazement and awe standing on the edge of this smaller canyon.
A few more pics of it in comments.
Many thanks for taking a look and for any remarks, faves and suggestions.
Have a wonderful week. Christmas is almost here!
The chasm not to be surveyed,
but skirted in the dark,
with consciousness suspended.
And Being under Lock.
I fear me this is Loneliness.
The Maker of the soul
It's caverns and it's corridors
Illuminate or seal.
Emily Dickinson
A real challenge to photograph because of the light contrasts.
One fork of the High Falls Gorge on the Ausable River, also known as Ausable Chasm, which is not far from Lake Placid. When I was growing up some of our relatives lived near from Ausable Chasm. And when they said that name it always evoked a little wonder at the mystery of the name. Lo and behold, it was worthy of the mystique.
Press "L" for the best view. Found this while digging in the archives. Another one where I don't remember why I never posted it.

The name is self-explanatory. The location, Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), Colorado.
Just about a mile and a half up Old Fall River Road, the first motor route across RMNP, this 25' waterfall steadily cuts granite, creating a path for the annual glacial runoff during the spring and summer months. This is near the transition between the Montane (5,500'- 9,500') and Subalpine (9,000'-11,500') zones, an area rich in animal and plant life that can survive in either zone.
When this image was taken, in early June, the road (still unpaved since it was built in 1920) was not yet open for the season due to snow at higher elevations. Chasm Falls is a nice hike from a picnic area at the start of the road.
The views of the Black Canyon and the Gunnison River from the north rim are pretty amazing. The mix of sun and shadows at this moment was pretty cool as well.
Fall River in Rocky Mountain NP, Colorado is a beautiful place to visit in Spring.
Of course, Spring at this elevation comes a bit later than the vernal equinox. If one were to visit in March, it's unlikely you would be able to get anywhere near this part of the river, just downstream from Chasm Falls, as the snow would still be pretty deep, and the road impassable.
It's spectacular, with ideal hiking weather in early June!
Looking downstream from the north rim of this colorful canyon.
Red Rock Point in view on the left. Great views of the Lower Falls visible from this viewing point. Only section of this canyon I haven't experienced. The trail was closed for construction last time here. Darn, gotta go back....
The canyon is roughly 20 miles long, measured from the Upper Falls to the Tower Falls area. Depth is 800 to 1,200 ft.; width is 1,500 to 4,000 ft.
The Yellowstone River begins on the slopes of Yount Peak, south of the park, and travels more than 600 miles to its terminus in North Dakota where it empties into the Missouri River. It is the longest undammed river in the continental United States.
Thanks for your visit and for any comments, faves or suggestions!
Yellowstone's Lewis River carved this impressive canyon on it's way to joining the Snake River.
Named after Meriwether Lewis. However, he didn't pass by here during his Corp of Discovery Expedition to the Pacific coast. They were much further North.
Enjoy a wonderful Sunday!
Thanks for taking a look!

This hiking route visits one of the most beautiful spots in the Benasque Valley: Aigualluts. The route can be done without much effort in four hours, but it is worth taking the time to observe the landscape in detail. It starts and ends in the same place, the car park located in La Besurta.
The path initially runs southwards, along a very obvious path, until reaching the La Renclusa refuge in 50 minutes. We go around it (there is a signpost) to continue southwards towards the La Renclusa pass. The path turns eastwards until reaching the pass, the highest point we will reach today, which we reach in just under an hour and a half from the start.
We continue along the path in an easterly direction, now descending, to the Plan de Aigualluts (two hours and twenty minutes).
Here we turn right to go around the plain on a path equipped with some levers (small bridges) that cross the numerous ravines and streams that reach this plain.
After going around it, we can see on the left the Forao de Aigualluts, a chasm through which the water that comes down from the Aneto glacier seeps to flow into L'Artiga de Lin, in the neighbouring valley of Viella, and therefore flows into the Garonne and not the Ésera.
At the end of the plain that we find below, we can continue straight ahead to return to La Besurta along the old path or ascend a little to the left to find the path that goes up to La Renclusa.
A short drive from Highway 97 just out of 70 Mile House in BC you will find the Chasm. If you want to see a grand canyon, you need not travel all the way to Arizona when we have one right in our own backyard. The Painted Chasm in near Clinton is BC’s answer to the Grand Canyon. At the end of the last ice age, 10,000 years ago, water from the melting glaciers carried so much silt that it carved the 8 km long, 600-metre wide and 300-metre deep Chasm. VLOG below😍

Sunrise at Cape Banks. No cloud this morning, which allowed the early yellow light to glow on the side of the chasm.

This spot is a real gem on the way out to Milford Sound. It's extraordinarily popular and taking photographs from here is nearly impossible at times. In addition getting the right light here is also a challenge. It's a short slot canyon carved by rushing glacier water. The natural turquoise blue colors of the water in New Zealand are something I will never tire of.
