Bill, please find attached my "Smoking Gun Photo" from 1989.
This was a photo which I took during a sailboat race on the Great Salt Lake
of the Kennecott copper smelter in Magna, UT.
This photo received national coverage, is posted in many EPA offices know as
the "Smoking Gun" image, and was presented to the Governor of the State of
Utah, along with the Kennecott/Rio Tinto Zinc financials, which showed that
this company was earning over $1M a day, running their processes in this
manner.
While this is the picture of many of the "runaway" smelter processes, it
shows what happens at many smelters that have marginal pollution controls,
especially in third world countries.
Kennecott/RTZ ended up spending over $1b to clean up the process, after the
Great Salt Lake Yacht Club, of which then I was commodore, launched a
lawsuit with the support of the Environmental Defense Fund.
I have to admit that the Kennecott process (going from batch to continuous
smelting) is much cleaner now, but this photo may be good evidence of what
is probably happening at other smelters around the world.
I am using this photo as the background image on facebook for the Interfaith
Power & Light fb page.
Yours free to use, if you feel that it is appropriate.

Before the project began, collisions along the corridor averaged about 215 a year. In 2010, the year following the project’s completion, that number plunged to 73 – that’s a 66 per cent drop.

Change is a timely portrait of Barack Obama made from 3700 circulated coins. Beyond the visual pun, the work evokes a sense of historical significance. Although the piece is made entirely of coins, it could be considered a portrait made from portraits. Each coin is carefully arranged with the presidential portrait facing out. This subtle detial suggests that Obama is made from the same qualities as Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and Roosevelt. Like Obama's grassroots fundraising campaign, sculptor Andy Magee collected all of the coins for this sculpture from friends and colleagues - who generously emptied their pockets and coin jars for the artwork.
An image of Change was featured in TIME Magazine's Person of the Year issue, in December 2008, and in COINage Magazine in March 2009.
There has been lots of change underway in Bradford in recent years, most of it slow progress due to the economic downturn.

To the left is the old police station (half demolished), the covered up and derelict Odeon to the right, that the council want to demolish but most of the public don't, and in the centre the Alhambra theatre that they will be leaving well alone.
“Winds of Change,” illustrates the power wind carries as well as its significance in Navajo creation stories. Originally another subject was in mind, but when Jay entered the room he was asked to paint, the wind coming off the Sendia’s was strong that morning; blowing through the room, his thoughts became about the wind. Around the room Jay attempts to capture the characteristics of wind; flow, rhythm, movement, color, spontaneity, softness, excitement, aggression and love.
In Navajo creation stories, the wind (ní ch'i) is what gave life to the Diné peoples. Wind is what networks all of nature, giving life and the power of motion to all living things. Wind lives in the four cardinal directions and is creator of the beautiful landscapes found within the four sacred mountains, which you will see in Jay’s room: To the east-white, south-turquoise, west-yellow, and north-black.
Energy and vibration are carried through the environment by wind and represented in the symbols used throughout the installation. The Zia symbol was used again to represent the four directions and the land of enchantment which is New Mexico. The final act in many traditional ceremonials is to stand and breathe in the air, to again fill the lungs with the wind, and to remember Hózhó (to walk in beauty).
Jay Smiley is from the Navajo Nation, Arizona and creates a mixture of abstract, contemporary and street influenced paintings. Jay was raised valuing Ké (kinship/family) and Diné (Navajo) tradition while having been immersed in pop culture, hip-hop, expression and dance from a young age. Art and culture have become a lifestyle for Jay, his paintings are a way to give back to his community and are for the world to see.
Jay uses aerosol spray paint, acrylic, stencils, and pen to combine his understanding of traditional native teachings and modern art technique – helping to find balance in a complex modern world. He uses the four sacred colors of his tribe and indigenous symbols to accomplish this vision; capturing visual landscapes, abstract figures, and his emotions. As a member of the established art collective “Medicine Paint Dream Warriors,” Jay finds inspiration from this circle of artists and is proud of their accomplishments as a whole.
Jay Smiley can usually be found live painting at a music festival, night club or community event and has found a niche for entertaining the crowd with personal style and artistic flow. Jay feels his most cherished moments have been spent working on the many murals scattered throughout the Southwest from Lower Antelope Canyon Tours to a collaboration piece with kids from the community in Navajo, New Mexico and the IMPACT project.

Buenas Tardes!!!

…change your luck.
And not for the better.
The "ARRRRGGGGGGOOSSSSSS!!!" suck this year.
So I thought I would show a picture of better times (2001)… although, not much better.
Yup, the Argos won THREE Grey Cups with the “Jason” logo (the bold Argonaut shielded warrior) pictured above, but this year they decided to change up.
Bad idea.
THERE IS just too much history, and success, with ole’ Jason. Everyone who matters, still remembers those Flutie years!
8-7 is a long way from 15-3.
Strangely enough, the 2007 logo looks an awful lot like the Argos logo that the now head coach "Pinball" Clemons donned on his uniform, as a running back, way back when he first started with the Argos back in 1989.
That’s Jimmy Kemp running the play as QB, fillin’ in for an injured Kerwin Bell in 2001. The Argos just didn’t offer Kemp enough money to start, in 2002, so he didn’t return.
That said… we’re sure Jimmy is doin’ alright, even though he "passed" on the QB oppertunity of 2002. Jimmy's dad is none-other-than JACK KEMP, who was the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee in 1996, on the Bob Dole ticket. Jack Kemp was the one who wrote that now famous memo to Ronald Reagan, back in 1980, outlining an economic plan that became the foundation for REAGANOMICS.
Before politics, Jack was also a QB (like father, like son) for the Buffalo Bills from 1963 – 1969 and was finally inducted into the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame in 1984.
Though the internet is silent… I expect Jimmy is still being mentored by his dad… and if the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree… he'll enter politics at some point.
Took photos in class tonight for cutting out and pasting into a new image - this is my first attempt!
Jennie the model was very obliging by getting into the exact position for me.
Changing colour. Panorama of the beach and scenery. Looks amazing. i made it bright, not sure why, it looked alright. Grass looks green and it makes the picture look more outstanding. Sunny day which allowed this photo to look more bright and better. Im trying to achieve a panorama, its not easy to get it perfect or all wobbly. Yes it was successful, it looks very good and shows the whole beach.
Leaves are starting to change colors at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL. I wonder why the trees to your right decided to change ahead of the other row.
Srey Our, called 'Ladyboy' - "I always wanted to be a girl. Even when I was tiny I played with other girls and grew my hair long. I left home when I was 17 to become the housemaid for a family where I lived for 10 years. My chance came to sing with a band and I never looked back. It was the best time - many boyfriends, lots of fun and no one knew anything about AIDS. We never had any reason to use condoms..
"Now many of us have become sick; there's no one else to look after us as most of our friends have died. Sure, we feel isolated, but we always have been isolated by Cambodian society..
"Since catching AIDS I'm afraid to have sex and I'm too tired; I sleep a lot or listen to records at home. Many gay people in Cambodia thought that HIV infection only comes from men sleeping with women. Everyone should know that men with men can infect the same way!".

Dear Water-Protectors and friends,
As organizer of the NoDAPL Solidarity Event in Vienna I am reaching out to you to report about the event and to send you some pictures of it (attached in the appendix) …here the Facebook event where you find even more pics and videos: www.facebook.com/events/1782578492009468/
Description:
On November 15th from 5 to 7.30pm more than 60 people gathered in front of the US Consulate in Vienna at Theodor-Herzl Platz. Via speakerboxes and microphone I gave a short introduction about the issues at stake for indigenous peoples when faced with the invasive and ignorant (neocolonial) character of extractive industry enterprises, (as can be seen in ND by them building through holy lands and threatening major water sources without free prior consent or consult with people affected according to the UNDRIP) and appealed to the US to engage critically with their history of state formation based on genocide and suppression of Indigenous Peoples (IP) and their cultures and to #HonotTheTreaties and respecting IP sovereign rights for self-determination in their doings and beings. Also I pointed at the numerous negative environmental Impacts of the Pipeline, (also referring to the missing Environmental Impact Assessment of the pipeline) and emphasized how the concept of interrelatedness of all existence found in indigenous ontologies can help us as humans to see beyond the borders of our socialized selves and reestablish a respectful and harmonious relational dynamic with the life-giving nature around us - #noDAPL because #WaterIsLife.
Many others took also the chance to speak about the injustices, police brutality and human rights violations happening in ND, including Peter Schwarzbauer, a spokesman of Arbeitskreis Indianer Nordamerikas (AKIN - a human rights watch specializing on indigenous proples’ struggles, challenges and concerns), Michael Fenz, a representative of the austrian „Idle no more“ Support Group and Roy E. Pete, a Navajo, who also performed a prayer song for the Water-Protectors at the construction sites in ND.
We repeatedly chanted the paroles:
- You can’t drink oil, keep it in the soil
- Water Is Life
- No triumphs for Trump in Standing Rock
Also a lifestream was filmed, lots of pictures were taken and posted on Facebook during or after the event the next day under the following hashtags:
#WATERISLIFE
#ISTANDWITHSTANDINGROCK
#MNIWICONI
#PROTECTMOTHEREARTH
#NODAPL
#STANDWITHSTANDINGROCK
#1N
#SACREDSTONECAMP
#THEWORLDISWATCHING
#BlackSnakeKillaz
#HonorTheTreaties
#Bankexit
#StandingWithStandingRock
Apart from that there was a lot of drumming, singing and discussion going on as people got together, interconnecting and talking about shared values and the struggle.
Also WienTV.org a Viennese TV channel made, posted and screened a 7 minute video of the event. Here a link to watch it (it’s in german):

Many blessings and courage to you, the protectors in Standing Rock and all the people fighting for a ecologically sustainable and socially just future for all!
