Australian Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier

Solid white red nosed male American Pit Bull Terrier puppy with floppy ears, estimated at twelve weeks old, littermate to all white female pup.

Owner has three days to reclaim this dog or it will be euthanized due to breed as this city facility does not adopt out pit bull terriers or pit bull mixes.

Stop the pit bull overpopulation!

Lucky young female tan dog with black mask, labeled as a "German Shepherd Dog mix" but looks very much like an American Pit Bull Terrier mix. The GSD mix label will make her adoptable, when a "pit bull mix" label means she would be killed in three days. Using breed ID like this makes BSL or breed specific legislation useless, as how one defines a specific breed or mix is based on how one interprets that single dog.

The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a medium-sized, solidly built, short haired dog whose early ancestors came from England and Ireland. It is a member of the molosser breed group. The American Staffordshire Terrier and The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) by breed are from the same lineage; Staffordshires was the name given by AKC, and American Pit Bull Terriers by UKC. The real difference between the two breeds is 6 - 8" in height and 25 - 35 lb in weight; the American Staffordshire being the larger of the two.

The dog was bred first to bait bulls and bears. When bear-baiting and bull-baiting were deemed inhumane, rat-baiting and dog fighting became more popular. The APBT Breed was used in both sports, and its prevalence in being put in pits with rats, or other dogs led to "pit" being added to its name.

The American Pit Bull is medium-sized, and has a short coat and smooth well-defined muscle structure. Its eyes are round to almond shaped, and its ears are small to medium in length and can be natural or cropped. The tail is slightly thick and tapers to a point. The coat is glossy, smooth, short, and stiff to the touch. The accepted coat color can vary widely, but, both the AKC and UKC do not recognize merle coloring.

Twelve countries in Europe, as well as Australia, Canada, Ecuador, Malaysia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and Venezuela have enacted some form of breed-specific legislation on pit bull-type dogs, including American Pit Bull Terriers, ranging from outright bans to restrictions and conditions on ownership. The state of New South Wales in Australia places restrictions on the breed, including mandatory sterilization. A few counties, and cities in the United States as well as the Province of Ontario in Canada, have outright banned ownership of the American Pit Bull terrier, and the breed is banned in the UK. ~ Wikipedia®

Marley is the typical bully breed. You don’t feed or walk him at specific intervals. He just doesn’t allow it. Instead Marley puts on a show of theatrics that would leave any seasoned thespian feeling somewhat inadequate.

It begins with a sigh. A very faint one. This is the stage of protest that makes it difficult to discern between the early evolution of his temper tantrum or his perpetually putrid case of the winds.

His plea starts innocently, but quickly escalates to an ear piercing bark that will have you up and ready to cater to his every need.

“Cappuccino Marley?”

“Filet Mignon?”

“Massage?”

I’ve often wondered how we can break him of this nasty little habit; one of dozens.

I took this photo with my newly acquired 50mm 1.4 Super Takumar. I quickly knew his demeanor was perfect to portray him as the gangster he has become.

This lucky male dog was labeled a "Shar Pei" mix, though I'm assuming he's part blue brindle American Pit Bull Terrier as this is a popular and common mix and his brindle pattern, upright ears and what body I can see look similar to a pit bull terrier, but to call him a "pit bull mix" would mean he can't be up for adoption as this facility doesn't adopt out American Pit Bull Terriers or pit bull mixes.

*DESTROYED*

Hard to tell if this is a light red fawn or light blue fawn female American Pit Bull Terrier with amber or blue eyes, severly starved and neglected, wearing black collar. Could be a cruelty case.

Harris County Animal Control destroys all pit bulls and mixes of when their owners don't claim them in three days. Pit bulls are not adopted to the public. Blue bully pit bulls are not rare and the pit bull population is out of control in Houston. Upset about this? Ask countypets.com to change its policy.!
