Giant (2-3") orange-legged spider dangling from a tree, right at face level.

Another from the archives:) I like to be lower than I was when I took this.

This guy is a little intimidating. There were a lot of them in Brazos Bend State Park.

This alligator is missing its left rear leg, which it probably lost in a fight with another alligator. It also has some visible scarring on its flank.

Next time it will be in focus

Alligator at Brazos Bend State Park

Brazos Bend was a rather large marshy area with lots of alligators. It's a beautiful park, but you definitely want to stay out of the water here.

When alligators travel overland, they usually walk with extended limbs like this. They seldom travel very far at a time, though, as it is pretty much an anaerobic activity for them. This one walked to the edge of this trail and lowered itself down to its belly. It stayed in the same spot for several hours.

Now I know why they need topknot

Cool weekend at Brazos Bend State Park. The alligators were all sunning themselves right next to the path.

Beware of alligators.

Cliché, but pretty. I took this with my G10 P&S while looking for birds. This little camera is a nice complement to an SLR with a telephoto lens.
