My first hike around the 40 acre lake at Brazos Bend State Park.
Started out foggy and slightly warm. Very muggy by the time I called it a day. But thankfully no mosquitos!

This heron took forever to get the fish down. As you can see by the condition of the fish in image 2, it was pretty hacked up before it was swallowed. It was a bit nasty to watch.
As I walked along this path I happened to be looking to my left when I became conscious of something in the corner of my eye to my right. I looked over there and saw this 8-foot gator moving across the path from one small lake to another at Brazos Bend State Park. Fortunately, I had time to back up a bit and get out of its way.
If it hadn't accidentally caught my attention, I might have bumped into it. You need to stay alert while walking the hiking paths at Brazos Bend.
