Redwood Grove north of Rockport California U.S.A.

Reading under a big, big tree, compliments the emotion of getting lost in a good story.

The tree that lives by me and provides joy... and lots of needles to clean off the balcony. 😁🌲❤️

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR VIEWS, COMMENTS, FAVES AND INVITES!

Our never ending spring!

The North Grove Trail at Calaveras Big Trees State Park passes through the trunk of a tree that was blown down in 1861. Calaveras County, California.

From the Fall gone by, never posted shot of a maple turning.

On this foggy day, I spent a good deal of time in Big Tree Recreational Site. 44 Hectares of reserve for all to enjoy, and at its heart, are a few monsters. However, this opportunity was more inviting with one very old tree, bending in time.

While the other giants were growing straight and tall, one older tree was bending in the mist. Perhaps an allegory to age, without a poem to accompany the meaning, its angled presence, is a testament to its time.

On the road into Big Tree Recreation Sight, there are many opportunities to catch some special shots. This was taken at the half way point where there was a pull out to park the car. The way in and out is very narrow.

There were colors below and colors up high, with almost nothing in between. So, letting the shadows go dark worked well considering there was little to capture.

Just a pretty place to be on a starry night.

Beneath the boughs of green hue,

I stand in awe, a mere passer-through.

Majestic arms stretch towards the sky,

In whispered leaves, secrets lie.

Gazing up, I feel so small,

Yet, in this moment, I stand tall.

For in the shade of this grand tree,

I find a piece of eternity.

Fourth and last image in this Tree series...

A large, old Cottonwood tree arches over toward Lake Michigan, framing the Sheboygan lighthouse in its branches.

Without a doubt, trees are one of my favorite subjects to photograph...

seeing this picture made me miss summer. It needs to get here faster

This year I will only go to the places that others are not. This beautiful tree rarely gets visitors. There is something magical for me with these massive old cherry trees.

Just got home and had to share this with you. Isn’t spring wonderful! So relaxing. Today is a hot day so the woods provided a nice bit of shade for Marnie. Straight out of the camera, my Flickr friends.

Thanks for your views... each is greatly appreciated.

What can be more compelling than a view on deep everlasting sky? The sky seen through the tree branches. This is one of those ancient big trees that has been here for hundreds of years, now protected by law. How many generations of travelers will see the sky through its branches?

Out cloud chasing, when out of no where this storm popped up in Sequoia. Miss the sounds, smells and feel of the rain as for here in the San Joaquin Valley this is a rarity due to drought conditions.

A gorgeous tree taken a few weeks ago when I walked back up from the mini marina.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

Ça fait quelque temps que j’attendais pour le prendre dans une belle brume matinale épaisse. Le plus dur a été de réussir à restituer sa grandeur et majestueuse beauté dans le cadre.

I may turn this one into an art print. I tried it on a 12x18 and got some good comments. Think anyone would buy it?

I'd like to try a sunrise shot at this location sometime. Click the bigtree tag for more angles.

Update: My buddy Dave W and I got sunrise shots of the Big Tree on Sat May 24, 2025.

One of the last trees leaves to hang on, the mighty Oak at Ivy Creek Nature Center in Charlottesville Virginia.

Every light casts shadows, unless closed in a sphere. That's an interesting concept reminding us, that anything good in a real world will produce bad as well. Shadow doesn't cast light, the bad creates only bad...(inside or outside of the sphere of real).

Panoramic composed with four captures. The deformation (reduction of the original size) of the top captures is evident for the nearness of the same ones.

So my wife was gracious enough to let me use her image from a recent trip in this crazy creation. Had fun combining Agathla Peak (bottom) with this meadow / tree.

The information exhibit did kind of say it all! This is a view looking to the west while walking the Foothill Trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. My thinking in composing this image was to go wide angle but have that information "big tree" exhibit be the main focus. The eyes would then lead upward along the coast redwood tree trunk, high into the image.
