Sven aka Ponette is my best friend and the godfather of my youngest daughter. We don't need to see each other very often to have complete trust and have great fun.
This time we took Sven and his g/f Marijke to the market in Brussels. Going somewhere with Sven is always a bit like watching Crocodile Dundee in New York. And going to the market was like a 5 hour exotic vacation.

Shooting families isn't always easy. Different characters, looks, clothes and sometimes clashing ego's. None of these problems on this shoot. This was one of those shoots that I realise that I'm so lucky that I can do this for a living.

I was seriously considering not doing weddings anymore next year, in fact the decision was made. But some amazing weddings this year made me recall that decision. Next year I'm going to do a limited amount of weddings and I'm going to do it my way. I'll focus on quality instead of quantity. I won't guarantee to capture every little moment any more but I will guarantee that I'll capture the mood of the day in less but better pictures.

Some photographers loose their freshness, spontanity and creativity after a few years in this very competitive business. To avoid that happening to me, I take some time to play every now and then.
This time my friend and fellow photographer Karla, showed me some tricks for working in a small studio and I took her outside for some strobist style shooting.

Lotte got a photoshoot as a present for her birthday. The friends and Lotte's bf, came along. I had a lot of fun shooting them. It was a dull gray fall day, but we managed to get a more sunny feeling in most of the pics.
LIGHTING INFO:
There almost no natural light in this picture. I used an Vivitar 285HV with a translucent umbrella as the main light (camera left about 45°).
Another 285HV was placed behind the model to create some separation light. Main light was at 1/4, backlight was at 1/16. Triggered with PW's.

Like almost every year for the past 10 years or so, my parents and our little family went for a ski holiday in Austria.
When I recentely borrowed an Ixus in Valencia because my gear was stolen, I realised I had to get a good compact camera myself, so I bought a Canon Ixus. It's far from as powerful as my DSLR's but because it fits in my pocket I can take it with me all the time. Great for some memories I wouldn't have captured otherwise.

Noa turned 10 days, we've been married for 7 years and the family (on my mother's side) got together for a party. What I really liked is that so many members of the family got together. It's been several years since I saw some of them.

My daughter Maya turnde 3 last friday. Ofcourse we had to celebrate that. Maya enjoyed all the presents, sweets and attention.
In my family it's tradition to decorate someone's chair on their birthday. Maya was really impressed with my flashy construction. This is what happends when you put a 32 year old in a chair for a 3yo.

We did this series of pictures in an old factory near Aalst. I'm not used to shooting strobist-style so this can hopefully get you over your fear to just try it & be amazed by the results you can get using only 1 off-camera flash.

2007 may 5, Zaventem (Belgium), School party
Every year this school (Zavo) organises a big party/show starring all the kids and teachers and staff. This year the theme was 'the wrong party', meaning that they used music, costumes etc. that you should like if you want to be in fashion.

Tonight I was one of the few fortunate people who got to play with a beta version of the new Canon EOS 5D mkII
I only held it for like two minutes but that was enough to be really impressed. It feels and handles well and it's amazing how little noise you get with such a megapixel packed sensor at high resolution.
I shot some HD video's at high iso's and they look just amazing. Too bad I'm not allowed to share them yet.
Because this is a beta camera there's no software that can handle the RAW-files, that's why I shot this picture in jpeg. This pictures was shot at iso 3200.
This is how it looks straight out of the camera.
I'm very impressed with this camera, thanks Canon.

After the Strobist Seminar in Paris we were hungry for more Strobist facts. Bert Stephani, Pieter Van Impe, Didier Jouret and me went on a Strobist trip in Vilvoorde, Belgium.
Without the help of the fantastic models Dirk Hesse and Sylviane Alliet this day wouldn't have been possible!

The incredibly fun wedding of Sara en Kristof
I used to shoot quite a lot of weddings but these days I limit myself to 10 weddings a year. I would be better off shooting a corporate or commercial assignment on those days but I just love shooting fun weddings too much to stop doing it.

BELGIUM - De Panne - Plopsaland
Our two oldest kids, Kobe and Maya, are really relaxed about their baby sister Noa getting most of the attention these days. But yesterday was all about them. We dropped Noa of at my parents and took Kobe and Maya to Plopsaland (a theme park). We all had so much fun.

Just a few pictures from our family holiday. Travelling with 3 small kids can be pretty exhausting so I packed just a minimum of photo gear: my Ixus and a DSLR with one lens (which stayed in the hotel safe for most of the time anyway).

Just a snap from the family holiday in France. As a professional photographer it's tempting to lug around all that gear on holiday but I find it important to step away from photography from time to time and just focus on my family. I only took 400 images in two weeks and mostly just with my small digicam (and a waterproof housing).

Hana, Vanessa and I went up to the roof of the building a few weeks ago.
I tried to do some off-camera flash for backlighting. This is really difficult without remote triggers. Burt Stephani of the blog Confessions of a Photographer recently called this "BioWizards". Ambient light bleeds in when the shutter speed is slow enough to allow manual synchronization.

I strongly (convince myself to) believe that professional photographers should take some time to play every now and then. We played around all the time when we where amateurs and that's what made us good enough to go pro anyway. So to become a better pro, I try to allow some time to play in my tight schedule.
A few months ago I got into a conversation between some like minded photographers and we decided to do some kind of fun shoot together. I actually didn't have the time but I went anyway. And I'm glad I did, because I came back with more energy and motivation.

First time using my Hasselblad 500 c/m camera for outdoor reportage style photography. My exposures and focus seems to be reasonably good, better than I expected.
This is shot with natural light and the 80mm lens. It was shot on a roll of (very) expired Porta 160VC. The scan isn't very good since I used a very old Epson 1240U flatbed scanner. I just ordered a new scanner so I didn't bother doing any dust removal on these pictures. I'll wait until I can scan them decently. Just a bit of Lightroom on this picture to make it B/W.
