Begonia is a very large genus of ca. 1500 species of herbs and subshrubs that occur predominantly in the tropical rainforests of both hemispheres. Unfortunately none of the species on display in the Domes were labelled, so I can't provide names. These photos, taken at the Mitchell Domes (and indoor conservatory) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, show four of the species currently on display.
Woot woot! I selfed B. crispula and put the seeds down. I was discouraged when I didn't see any sprouts after 3 weeks but in week 4 we have hatchlings!
Begonia is a very large genus divided up into a number of Sections. The species shown here, B. manicata, is in section Gireoudia.
We went to a charity ball over the weekend and I won the table display as my birthday was the nearest to the date of the ball. I think they are begonias?

Begonias are one of my favourite. I wish the ones I've tried to grow came out like the ones in Shanklin Chine.
