Begonias in the Conservatory, Ballarat Botanic Gardens. Rex begonias are tropical plants, prized for their colorfull patterned and intriguingly shaped leaves. Although they are at home in a shady garden, they are also popular as conservatory and houseplants.

Trying out a cinematic look, pasting my flower photo onto a 1600x730px background, and then pasting this onto a 1600x960 black background. :-)

This begonia is growing in my garden near the street, under a tree. The begonias in that section like the shade. I'm trying to photograph various flowers that I hadn't given much attention.

Begonia grandis Dryand.

Begonias are a garden classic for good reason: This easy-to-grow plant takes root in a variety of conditions and requires little to thrive. Choose any of the many shapes, sizes, and colors, and you’ll be rewarded with stunning flowers and foliage. Some plants showcase single flowers with just one row of petals, while others have double blooms with numerous rows of petals.

Found during a recent lunchtime walk on Comm Ave.

Just as I was getting ready to take a photo of the center of a tiny begonia this ant made an appearance, perfect timing. :) Handheld.

Sorry for so many photos, took several while the sun was shining. Just saving to albums, no need to comment. :)

Only one flower on the plant, probably too hot for it now.

Have a lovely day

It's raining. The ice on the lake appears to be gone although I think it still remains under the surface water. I thought we all might need some flowers to tide us over even if they are salmon begonias. I'll be back tomorrow to visit.

In the greenhouse, it almost seemed to glow in the morning sun.

Lydia, you've been asking how the Begonias are doing, ...here's your answer!

Iridescent leaves and wriggly grub impostors are enough for successful reproduction for some begonias. Male and female flowers grow on the same plant — I think this is male because of the number of petals. In my Gold Coast hinterland garden.
