The crowd forms before Kathy Gannon joins the crowd for a conversation with Carleton's own, Dick Gordon. Gannon was shot point-blank by an Afghan police officer on April 4, 2014. Her fingers are partially injured and she's had 14 surgeries on her shoulders, arms and hand.
Somewhere around the end of the 19th century, a 17 year old farm boy left his family, and like so many other swedes of that time, set his face towards America. He made his way to Minnesota and began a family.
One hunderd years later his great-grandson journeyed back to that boyhood home. The history felt tangible, visceral, real. The journey home was part of the gift.

This year I will begin my art journey. I have to make time to make art. I have to. And so it begins...
In the beginning was the pale signature,
Three-syllabled and starry as the smile,
And after came the imprints on the water,
Stamp of the minted face upon the moon;
The blood that touched the crosstree and the grail
Touched the first cloud and left a sign.
In the beginning was the mounting fire
That set alight the weathers from a spark,
A three-eyed, red-eyed spark, blunt as a flower,
Life rose and spouted from the rolling seas,
Burst in the roots, pumped from the earth and rock
The secret oils that drive the grass
from 'In the Beginning' - Dylan Thomas

We're doing a commercial for my shop, New Beginning, on several cable stations. Getting models lined up for the shoot was a new experience for us, and we had to reschedule the shoot once due to rain, but in the end it went really well I think (haven't seen the finished product as of this writing.) I followed along with my camera, thus this set of pictures. The models are young women and one guy from local colleges, and my shop manager, and one customer who I begged to be in it to provide a more mature look!
This set will probably mostly be of interest to the people in the pictures and their friends and family. It's an awfully attractive and fun group of people though! :-)
(I forgot to post last week, though the picture was taken last week)
For this week’s challenge, the theme is beginning. Many animals begin their lives as an egg, which is why I decided to photograph an egg for this week. This is a simple photograph, taken with the humble Canon 50mm f/1.8 II. No flash was used, since I knew next to nothing about flash or lighting when I first embarked on my photographic journey.
