jBaby Detroit said goodbye to winter with an afternoon of family fun, including Bounce Houses, PJLibrary Story Time, Sing Alongs, Yoga for Little Ones and a Special Visit from Olaf (from Frozen©)!
An old rusty car sat at the entrance to a property. No Idea what type of car it is, but looks to be from the 1940's. Paddock bashers are old cars, normally unregistered that are used around a farm or rural property, they get run into the ground until they pack in. Near Roadvale, Queensland, Australia.
I've been working on shaping this hat for much of the afternoon and... It's just not right. Granted, this is a flash photo taken at night, so the contours of the front dents are not obvious. What you can see, though, is how the overall shape tapers toward the top.
I'm trying to shape the hat to resemble the hat Indiana Jones wears in Raiders of the Lost Ark. A hallmark of the Raiders look is a crown (top part) with straight sides. My hat doesn't have straight sides. It tapers. And that just looks goofy. It doesn't look like an Indiana Jones hat. It looks like a Red Skelton as Clem Kadiddlehopper hat. It looks like a circus clown hat.
Some of the effect might be due to my unkempt hair. Straggly long hair doesn't work well with a fedora, unless you're going for a hippie folksinger look. The tapered top might even work for the hippie folksinger look. Perhaps I should forget Indy and go for the Wayfaring Stranger look.
As an illustration of how "not Indy" this hat is looking, as I'm sitting here working on it, trying it on for size, wearing my Willis & Geiger safari shirt, tan pants, and with a MK VII satchel slung over my shoulder, somebody walked by and said, "hey there, Ace Reporter!" I look more like Kolchak than an archæologist, apparently. (And yeah, I know that Kolchak wore a straw hat, not a fedora. Just shows to go ya how far off my hat bash is from what it should be!)
Also, I see by this photo that the ribbon has slipped up, revealing the stitching at the seam between the crown and the brim. I'll have to work that back into place.
I guess I'll fuss with it some more tomorrow in the daylight, and see if I can coax a better shape out of it. This is why I've been hesitating on bashing this hat for six months -- I was afraid I'd mess it up.
That taper. It bugs me. A lot.
Maybe I'll get a haircut, too.
