The "Rock, Paper, Scissors" game used internationally to resolve disputes of all kinds – from who goes on the halftime beer run to hotly contested Senate bills – has taken an ugly turn in the past year. A new version of the game, started by bored inmates in San Quentin, scraps the traditional hand gestures for a more "urban" interpretation of the items – crack cocaine (rock), cigarette rolling papers (paper) and a switchblade (scissor).

Since the more lethal version was introduced, RPS deaths have risen to 3,127, up from just one death during its entire previous existence. (The one death was the result of an RPS challenge to see who got the last parachute.)

This is not my original writing. I wish it was! but got it from here!

It's county fair season and the original idea was to have mac pose with something from the fair but i failed to find the appropriate prop. I found this plastic fire hat at a game at the carnival part, and the carny told me it didn't belong to anyone, so I took it. My boyfriend suggested Mac pose with a bucket. I couldn't figure out what on earth we was talking about, but duh, it's the old timey fire fighting tool. Of course, our bucket is plastic, and the red-cross is actually orange duct tape, but I figure it fits perfectly with the pit bull firefighter, the garden hose, and a plastic hat.

No one can say he looks depressed in this shot- look at that tail and his longing eyes at my photo assistant's cheese!!

Note: I absolutely can't believe this year is half over. I'm sad about this- it's the all-star break coming up, so baseball season is also half over, which we all know means depression. It means winter is coming up, and it means I *really* need to find a job.

One of the "haunted" houses decorated for Halloween, located on a very well known road known as Clinton Place in Hackensack NJ. This quaint little street with beautiful Victorian homes decorates their houses & yards every year in October! Not every house does it & the best time to visit this spooky New Jersey find is at night fall.

another crappy pic, i know.

my entry for the battles contest on classic-castle

Conor Nitely was scowling. Hard. The look apparent even half hidden between his blue bandana and overgrown bangs. There were what appeared to be fading bloodstains on the concrete in front of the tiki bar, even more behind it. A somewhat random scattering of broken glass, as if someone had done a rather poor job sweeping it up. But Conor wasn't scowling at any of those thing. No, something else had caught the boy's attention. A small, seemingly innocuous lady bug. Held prisoner by an upside down highball glass, and trying desperately to escape.

Jaina Lefevre kicks a bit of broken glass out of the way and climbs up onto a chair, arms leaning on the bar to look at the bug. "Whatcha doin?"

Conor Nitely: Eyes went wide over the fabric as yet another patron caught him by surprise. "Err...hey Jaina. Haven't seen ya in awhile. I caught this bug here. Was crawling around in the back and stuff. -Not supposed to have any little fuckers crawling around the back.-" Spoken low and gutteral. A shrug then. "Dunno what to do with it now." He pushed the glass to the side, small bug still held captive. "You wanna drink then? Imma 'tender now and...you got new hair?" As if hair were something that could be switched out at the Sari Mart.

Jaina Lefevre giggles. "It's a lady bug. THey're good. They eat other bugs and keep things cleaner. You should let her go 'cause it's good luck." She hrms. "Can I have some gingerale? I got creds." She pulls out a couple and lays them on the bar, fingers only then reaching up to her hair. "Yeah...it got darker when I was in Texas. The sun did it I guess. And this boy Kevin got gums in my hair and it had 'ta be cut. It's okay. His cast will come off in a week or so."

Conor Nitely: Feet teetered only momentarily as he stepped down off his box. Two pointy ears where the only thing visible behinds the counter now. He was noticably shorter without the two feet of wood under his sneakers. "Is good luck?" asked with a bit of wondering in his voice. Small hands rummaged around until the green bottle was located an retrieved, the gingerale placed not too -gingerly- in front of her as he crawled back on his box. "Texas huh? On the mainland then? They got horses there and stuff? I saw it in a book one time." As if, as an afterthought, another highball glass was fished out from below the bar. Three icecubes added with five not-so-clean fingers. He pushed the glass towards her, eyes falling back the other glass. The one containing on his tiny winged prisoner. "Lucky, eh?"

Jaina Lefevre nods. "Ladybugs are very good luck. How many spots on her back? The more spots, the more wishes you get." She reaches for the bottle and twists it open, taking a sip before nodding once more. "Yeah, on the mainland. Was a long plane ride but was in a Blackstar plane. I rode horses and shot shotguns and swam in the lake and in the pool and got sunburned and ate corn on the cob and something called 'barbecue' and tater-salad and it was a lot of fun. There was a Japanese girl and a spanish girl in my bunk house and I learned t'speak some from them. "Domo arigato" is thank you bein' polite-like."

Conor Nitely: Pointy elbows dug into the wood of the counter as he leaned in closer to the glass. Almost nose to nose with it, mouth silently forming the numbers as he counted the miniature black circles on its back. "Nine," said finally, making no move to set it free just yet. "Nine spots." At her words eyebrows quirked, eyes went far-away and dreamy. "Lake and pool, huh? Shotguns and planes?" More than a bit of awe in those words. Then, a firm shake of a shaggy head. "I dunno what 'domo' means but 'are-you-ga-toe' means thanks for letting me ninja kick you'." There was a faint look of pride then, even on his half hidden face. Something else too. Some melanchology making his gaze distant for a moment.. "Eyup."

Jaina Lefevre leans closer to look. "That's nine wishes then. But you gotta let her go, cause if she dies you don't get the wishes." She watches his face and nods a little. "Moms sent me there 'cause I weren't going out no more and stuff. I couldn't stop being too scared. I'm still scared, but not as bad now. I knowed that if I stay hiding, then them mean assbags win y'know?" She tips her head, looking at him. "Is we still friends? We was before, and then Phoebe and Rai came and we don't even like..hang out or nothing. You was like the best 'cause you taught me stuff. Like a big brother person."

Conor Nitely: He nodded as she spoke about wishes, fingers just dancing over the glass. The small bug still held prisoner inside. "I don't hang out as much and stuff anymore. Even with Frank. Got lots of jobs now. Sa said I'm supposed to earn my keep. I mean...that was like before. Before...errr...before I lived at the church and stuff. But she says I should still earn it anyway 'cause there's this thing called tie-thing? Pays for Mister Eamon and Sister D's dinner." Eyes glanced almost unconsciously at the bar. "And...isn't bad. Working here and stuff. Sometimes I get to see..." He shrugged, attention focused back on his small captive. "Still friends though. Eyup. Sometimes...friends don't see eachother much and stuff. 'Cause things change. But doesn't mean not friends, right? Same with family. Sometimes you don't see them a lot but it doesn't mean they don't love you." The glass was pushed gently towards her, careful not to squish the ladybug inside. "I already got my wish kinda. And...sorry 'bout the assbags. You can have the nine wishes if you want."

Jaina Lefevre reaches for his hand on the glass. "We do it together. And I'm only gots one wish anyway, so you can have the others, or share them with Frank or something." She smiles at him and nods. "Yeah...so you're gonna always be like my big brother, okay? Forever and ever?" She's trying to keep his hand on the glass, with hers on top if he lets her. "And I work too - I got tutors and chores and I help at the Snake Pit sometimes, when Mom Deets isn't being cranky or Mister David isn't being...well...yeah. And I knowed about tithing. Moms pays money to the church to help them out a lot."

Conor Nitely: Brows knitted, tongue pinned between two lips pressed thin. There was a faint look of panic in his eyes suddenly. "Do we gotta make them all at once? The wishes? 'Cause I don't know if I can decide on them all so quickly and I don't want to waste them!" Okay, so the boy might have been a -little- on edge this week. Prone to OCD freakouts. "Okay...okay...I can do this," mumbled softly, almost to himself. A few moments pause and he relaxed. He didn't move his hand out from under hers, just blinked slowly a couple times as he nodded. "You wanna do it on the count of three?"

Jaina Lefevre nods. "Count of three - and no, they don't all gotta be at once. You just gotta say "Ladybug, I wish...." and then say the wish. Or "Ladybug, I give my wish to..." and then give one to someone else and they say the wish part."

Darkness Odigaunt waved as she spotted Midian's best 'tender, though the person sitting at the bar with him... She moved in a little bit closer, watching what they were doing silently as she could.

Conor Nitely took a deep breath. Then a second. Then a third. Eyes locked with her as he counted. "'Kay. Ready? One...two...THREE!" The last number squeaked out rather loudly, one could almost -hear- the exclamation point at the end of his sentence. He'd wait until both their hands had moved to pick up the glass together. Eyes cinched shut tight as he made his wish. "Ladybug..." almost whispered. "I wish..." It was hard to make out what he was saying, his wishes almost lost in the air. At least one word darting around the bar before heading out to sea. "...forever."

Jaina Lefevre lifted the glass and then 'puffed' on the bug to get her to fly away, wings blurring as she lifted off and soared on an ocean breeze to head up to the cliffs area. "Ladybug...I wish...." and she closes her eyes tight, whispering to herself, then giggles, turning to look at Conor. "Awesomesauce."

Conor Nitely: The tension in the boy seemed to ease then, an almost palpable lift to his heavy mood. As if the weight of the words no longer rested on his small shoulders. "Err...awesomesauce?" giggled back. Almost a rhetorical question. He dragged the back of his hand against his bandana covered face, squinting to try to make out the tiny bug as she soared away. "You think she's going home now?" asked with more than a little bit of longing.

Darkness Odigaunt leans against the pillar to watch the specks disappear into the ever-dark sky. After a moment, she looked back down to the children, starting to move closer a moment before changing her mind and turning for the Sari Mart again.

Jaina Lefevre nods. "Probably. And she's gotta take care of our wishes. Is your wish a secret? Mine isn't." She leans on the bar and swivels her hips, the bottle of gingerale near her elbow. She hasn't noticed Sister D behind her, her attention on Conor's face. "Wanna hear mine?"

[2009/08/01 9:45] Conor Nitely's lips pursed slightly, as if secret were a dirty word. Or even worse...a -girly- word. A shrug and a mumbled, "Kinda." The highball glass that has housed their ladybug now snagged with a small hand. Sneakers scuffed on the ground as he moved towards the sink half full of murky water. "Eyup. I do. What was it?"

Jaina Lefevre kneeled on the chair and watched him. "I wished that you be my big-brother friend person forever and I'm your little sister friend person forever. No matter what." She nods sagely. "We've been happy and scared and all kinds of stuff in between. And if'n it weren't for you when I first came to Midian, I would've been dead or worse. You kept me safe and showed me how to find stuff."

Conor Nitely seemed to blush at those words, deep crimson rising on his left cheek to match the red, raw scratched left one. Only the tops of both visible above his bandana. "Errr..." stuttered dumbly, glass in his hand nearly dropped into the sink. A slow shuffle back to the bar, eyes carefully averted as he climbed back on his box. "Is nice Jaina. Thanks." Hand raised almost absently to drag across his cheek again, his eyes seeming to darken a little bit after a few moments. When he spoke, it was almost like an admission. "Everyone's grey," said softly. "Even if they don't want to be. Even me. But...yeah. Thanks. Is nice...to hear...and stuff."

Jaina Lefevre watches him a little while and then nods. "Yeah. But...sometimes, grey is more white than grey and sometimes it has to be grey so's the rest of the stuff doesn't get black. I had a hard time with that when Moms got hurt. People said mean stuff and I kept hearing it all the time, but Moms said that it wasn't my fault. It was bad people trying to use me to hurt her."

Conor Nitely: The word was 'pawn.' Though it was likely neither of them knew it yet. And probable they should. He nodded as she spoke. "Eyup. Sometimes people are more light grey and sometimes they're look soot. And sometimes they can change and stuff. But no one's white, huh? Not here at least. Maybe in Ohio or something." Chin jerked towards her gingerale, the credits she'd placed on the counter still lying somewhere between them. "You want another then?"

I'm very happy that New Mexico has begun processing same-sex marriage license applications. I was down at the Blue Heron Brewing Co. brewery earlier today when a burst of rain let out while the sun was shining and everyone ran for the porch to watch the rainbow we knew was outside. I snapped this one closer to home.

A few months ago I had a conversation in that brewery with some state legislative staff. We talked about a couple bills I knew were pending including one that would give same-sex couples the right to marry. I inquired whether there was any legal definition of "man" or "woman" in New Mexico law. This sparked an idea that one said needed legal research and she planned to follow up on it.

A couple weeks later there was an announcement in Santa Fe that the state law didn't ever restrict same-sex marriage to begin with, and it appeared to already be legal for gay and lesbian couples to marry. Since then some judges have upheld this ruling and gay and lesbian couples have married.

I don't know for a fact that I helped the cause along, but I sure hope so. Either way, it's a great time for equality and I support the rights of all my friends, family and neighbors to marry the person they love.

My new XOAR PJP-T-L-INS props on my DJI Inspire 1 drone, which I affectionately call "RRD-1."

These props make a noticeable difference in responsiveness to control inputs in all axis, the drone seems more stable in flight and when hovering due to being 100% perfectly balanced by XOAR prior to shipping, and I believe XOAR's claims of increasing efficiencies of the four motors, due to the fact the CW/CCW pairs have the same pitch and same weight, the maximum tolerance of weight difference for each pair is 0.5 gram; this guarantees consistent performance - same torque is produced by the motors on each pair of opposite arms.

The superior strength reduces flexing of the tips in flight which noticeably lowers prop noise and vibration to yield a stable, responsive, smooth, accurate and quieter flight compare to the stock DJI Plastic Props (unbalanced) when flying with the original X3 or the New Zenmuse X5 Camera.
