This is a small part of an innovative antenna design which aims to demonstrate the concept and the usability for radio astronomy. The EMBRACE system is being built by ASTRON in The Netherlands and is the largest demonstrator currently existing. The image shows about one fifth of the available elements.

It is innovative technology like this that the future Square Kilometre Array telescope is going to rely on for part of its huge collecting area.

The shape of things to come opens up great photo opportunities.

This is a long exposure (30 sec), small aperture photo (to achieve sharpness front to back) using light painting to bring out details that otherwise would hide in the shadows.

The Astronist Institution releases an image of the philosopher and founder of Astronism, Cometan, from the 2020 Annual Photoshoot taken at the Guild Hall in Preston, Lancashire, England.

Official title: Standing With The Silver Sphere.

As part of the 2021 Annual Cometanic Photoshoot, Cometan brought along his mesmerising and mysterious armillary sphere as one of his props for the shoot. Also called the Silver Sphere, this object is a replication of those used in medieval times as a model of the objects in the night sky, likely for the purpose of studying the structure of the known universe as it was back then. In contemporary times, Cometan stands beside his own armillary sphere which, as an instrument of astronomy, represents both his adherence to Astronism as well as the myriad of beliefs that he holds dearly.

These pictures belong to the first batch of shots that I've ever taken with my own DSLR - the Nikon D70s. Some of my best shots ever came out of that body... funny how sometimes even the simplest of cameras can produce images that become etched in ones memory.

As the Founder of Astronism, Cometan is always contemplating the nature of our cosmic existence and in this image from the 2020 Annual Cometanic Photoshoot, Cometan is captured in full contemplation mode.

Join Cometan for his first public lecture event taking place in his hometown of Penwortham just outside Preston city centre.

The lecture will explore three key areas:

Firstly, Cometan will explain the historical relationship between astronomy and religion in an effort to demonstrate the existence of a long undermined and under-researched religious tradition that he has named the Astronic tradition.

Secondly, Cometan will introduce Astronism, a new religious movement and philosophy that he dedicated himself to the founding of from the age of 15. Cometan will explain the main beliefs of Astronism, how it relates to prehistoric astronomical religions, and how it interacts with the wider movement to explore space.

Finally, Cometan will explore the question of what religion may look like in the future, drawing from ideas such as religious commercialisation and the rise of atheism and irreligiosity concurrent to the growth of the group describing themselves as 'spiritual but not religious'.

He has set his sights on becoming a lecturer and public speaker on religion, philosophy, business and theology. He has spent years studying religion autodidactically, but has recently embarked on a Masters Degree course at UCLan followed by a full-time P.h.D. Programme. Other key points of interest for Cometan are writing (he has published books across fiction and non-fiction), music (he has played the piano since he was 11), and travelling the world interacting with different cultures (Cometan went to China in 2018 and more recently visited Hong Kong).

Any person that does not follow these rules will be politely asked to the leave the event.

Great to catch up with John from Middletons in Tenby this week. Here is Van Hool Astron TX17 P24 MTL (ex Parrys YD14 GFO) in Carmarthen today, 8th December, 2021.

Cometan visited Blackpool Pleasure Beach yesterday with his siblings Zara, Kent and Charlotte and their friend Caitlin Hogarth for the 13th birthdays of the twins Kent and Zara. A beautiful sunny day it was indeed with the sky so blue. What a wonderful way to celebrate officially turning a teenager.

serata al fuoco del camino

Raccontaci una favola

Senza robot ed astronavi

senza razzi positronici e super uomini

accendi il camino

e raggruppiamoci vicino

tutti intorno agli anni tuoi

alle tue profonde rughe

raccontaci una favola nonna cara

di quelle che di notte non fan dormire

parlaci di orchi e dame

cavalieri sui destrieri

fai che ad ogni crepitio

del fuoco

i nostri cuori sembrino scappare

parlaci di gnomi

e boschi neri

di dolci fate e perfide streghe

fai sì che il tempo voli

ed al finir della legna nel camino

accompagnaci a letto

restaci vicino

nonna cara

fai che risvegliandoci al mattino

possiamo abbracciarci

e ridere felici

tra tutte le paure

quella vera è saper

di non poterti più ascoltare

e consapevoli che ormai

nessuna nonna ci sarà a raccontare.

Sleeping In

Cometan returned to The Amish Inquisition Podcast this evening to discuss his recently published Master’s Degree dissertation all about the oldest religious tradition called Astronic tradition. Central to Cometan’s theory for an Astronic religious tradition is that various aspects of astronomical religion were closely entwined with the origins of religion itself during the Upper Palaeolithic period of the Stone Age. The 47th notable image of Cometan sees the Founder of Astronism smiling from ear to ear on a moonlit night sky at the Birling Gap near Eastbourne, East Sussex. Featured in this image from Cometan's summer trip to the South Downs are twinkling stars, a beautiful cloud formation and the Seven Sisters cliffs stretching for as far as the eye can see in the background. This photo really does have it all; cliffs, coast, the sea, the beach, clouds, night sky and the stars.

This meaningful photo presents what Astronism.org stands for. It stands for natural, untouched photos and this photo is a prime example of a photo that hasn't been touch and even the little girl is laughing naturally! The most meaningful and memorable photo of the summer collection.

For the 2022 Cometanic Annual Photoshoot, Cometan worked in collaboration with Victoria’s Photos, a Preston-based photographer. This notable image from the set portrays Cometan’s Great Golden Telescope emerging in its dazzling colour from the pitch black background. Cometan looks on in amazement at the wonders of the astronomical world as a metaphor for the Transcension while dressed in his iconic smart shirt and pants and flashing his notable timepiece. Wielding the Golden Telescope makes for a majestic image.
