Stockton is another interior town with wonders that receive too little attention and has been rated very low by some (see first minutes of Huell Howser). For example, the Hotel Stockton in downtown Stockton is an impressive example of Mission Revival architecture. It opened in 1910 and did very well until WWII, then deteriorated but has been saved architecturally by a 2005 conversion to affordable downtown housing, with retail space on the lower floors. The link below provides an interesting history of the restoration of the hotel into its current use.

Huell Howser video from 35:40 to 42:50 has views of the Hotel, it’s interior, and discussion of its place in local history.

Stockton is on the edge of two different areas. Due to being a port off of SF Bay at the northern edge of the San Joaguin Central Valley, it could be considered either a Central Valley or an SF Bay Area City. It's thus labeled as both here.

Haar or sea fret at Brouwersdam beach. Haar or sea fret along the dunes. Haar is typically formed over the sea and is blown to the land by the wind. This commonly occurs when warmer moist air moves over the relatively cooler North Sea causing the moisture in the air to condense, forming haar.

St. Petersburg, Russia
once home of Pyotr Rumyantsev, one of the foremost Russian generals of the 18th century. He governed Little Russia in the name of Empress Catherine the Great from the abolition of the Cossack Hetmanate in 1764 until Catherine's death 32 years later. With the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish war in 1768, Rumyantsev took command of the army sent to capture Azov. He thoroughly defeated the Turks in the Battles of Larga and Kagula, crossed the Danube and advanced to Romania. For these dazzling victories he became Field-Marshal and gained the victory title Zadunaisky (meaning "Trans-Danubian"). When his forces approached Shumla in 1774, the new Sultan Abdul Hamid I started to panic and sued for peace, which Rumyanstev signed upon a military tambourine at the village of Kuchuk-Kainarji.

Scandinavian Modernism: In Pursuit of Function and Beauty, a new exhibition at San Francisco International Airport, captures the dazzling array of furniture and furnishings that emerged from Scandinavia from the late 1920s through the mid 1960s. More than 50 examples of furniture, ceramics, glass and lighting designed by prominent Scandinavian Modernists are on view.
The featured objects reflect Scandinavian Modernism’s ideals of utility and purity of form, in particular the designers’ emphasis on softer, more organic forms, natural materials and fine craftsmanship. Among the iconic works included in the exhibition are Poul Henningsen’s avant-garde PH lamp (1927-1928), Bruno Mathsson’s bentwood Pernilla lounge chair (1933-36), Arne Jacobsen’s Ant chair (1951) and Series 7 chair (1955), Hans Wegner’s beautiful and practical Valet chair (1953), and glass works by Nils Landberg and Ingeborg Lundin.
