Resplendent in its very recently applied new paint by Railroading Heritage of Midwest America, closely matched to the original Santa Fe Warbonnet colors it wore when new, 537 sits inside at the RRHMA Silvis Shop.
Built new for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway by General Electric in 10-1990, builder number 46441 order number 1422SF. Of course it wore red and silver thanks to Santa Fe President Mike Haverty reviving the paint scheme for their famous Super Fleet Service in the early 90's.
The unit passed to the BNSF with the 1995 merger, and became BNSF 537 when repainted to Heritage 2 in 4-2001 and wore those colors until being retired donated in 2023. The locomotive was stored for some time at Donkey Creek, Wyoming before the donation was assisted by BNSF Director of Fleet Planning Rick Knutson shortly before he retired.
Thanks to lots of hard work by the staff at Silvis, the unit is again fully operational, features faithfully color matched paint, hand-restored builder plates, and an accurately sized cigar band nose medallion, which I was more than excited to assist with and look over the final product. It debuted in October at the Tractors & Trains Open House held at the shop.
This is the first North American Safety Cab equipped locomotive to be restored to as-delivered paint, which is hard to believe; but consider this engine ran twice as long in revenue service than the DDA40X a few yards away. Needless to say, it's the nicest one of these has looked in close to 30 years.

It was shot in a studio. In order to express her strength of will, I photographed her directly facing the camera. I applied wind from the side to make the tears appear. The photo was taken to create an impressive atmosphere by adding movement to the hair.
A crumpet (/ˈkrʌmpɪt/ (audio speaker iconlisten)) is a small griddle bread made from an unsweetened batter of water or milk, flour, and yeast, eaten in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
Crumpets are regionally known as pikelets, a name also applied to a thinner, more pancake-like griddle bread:[1] a type of the latter is referred to as a crumpet in Scotland.

Main Building, glass front towards Frankenring
Textile Engineering School Krefeld (today Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Dept. of Design)
1952-1954, Architect Bernhard Pfau
"[...] Franz Lorscheidt was responsible for the first construction phase, the contract for the second and third was won by Bernhard Pfau in a restricted competition, who is known for the originality of his designs, which often play with glass, and the often hidden construction principles of his buildings.
The changeability of all school rooms required in the tender brought the architect to his resourceful construction. "At Pfau, design always evolves from construction," says Pfau specialist Marcus Wrede in a 2012 lecture. The facade of the long wing of the building, which is closed with a narrow ribbon of windows and surrounded by greenish glass skin, guides the students to delve deeper into their studies. The building opens onto the bright inner courtyard. [...]
The urgently required renovation of the building complex is a challenge, also because details can no longer be reconstructed today. [...]"

The original photo was taken early this morning in the Canley area of Coventry. The view is looking out across the field of Prior Deram Park at a nice golden sunrise.
The photo was taken using the app ExposerGL on my iPhone 6.
First I used the app Snapseed to edit the picture. I cropped the image and applied the Tonal Contrast preset. I then boosted the Contrast, Saturation, Ambiance and Shadows. I also decreased the Highlights a little. After this I used the app Mextures to apply the formula called Dead by Dawn by Tony Detroit. Next I used PicsArt to apply the Artistic Oil Painting preset. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Clarify preset and the Red/Blue Process FX. I then applied the Stucco texture and the Leather frame.
I applied the Droste technique to images of old/Gothic doorways and old stock certificates. Images inspired by the Droste technique will likely appear in an upcoming book by the Oscura Press. Mathmap credits to Josh Sommers (http://www.flickr.com/photos/joshsommers/).
Museum Arnhem NL
This museum for modern, contemporary and applied art and design in Arnhem, was renovated and expanded. Benthem Crouwel Architects’ clear and simple design concept involved restoring Cornelis Outshoorn’s 1873 design in all its former glory. The design highlights the museum’s unique location and the building’s characteristic qualities: the landscape plays a key role in the museum experience; the galleries are simple and quiet, creating optimal conditions for enjoying the works of art; and the dome regains its original, spacious character. The renovation and extension of Museum Arnhem seamlessly integrates art and nature.
A new volume was added on the west side. It provides views of, and connects with the landscape in a variety of ways: the lateral moraine with its vegetation, the gardens with their sculptures, panoramic vistas of the Rhine and the Betuwe, the view of Oosterbeek railway bridge, and not to mention Arnhem’s grand skyline. This wing has a unique feature: a public amphitheater with a large tribune, which makes it possible for visitors without a museum ticket to enjoy the views and the garden. The new wing extends on both sides, and is clearly visible from both roads approaching the museum. The part that protrudes on the south side, above the moraine, accentuates the differences in height: looking out over the landscape, visitors feel like they are hovering above the trees.

An inquisitive and innocent 11 year old me on Halloween. I had not thought of a Halloween costume so mom came to the rescue using my cousins dress, applied some cosmetics, and pinned her wig onto my hair. At this point in my life I had only fooled around with some panties. After the dress and makeup was on she gave me some black sheer pantyhose with some instruction how to put them on. So I went to my room and slipped off my boys shorts under the dress and replaced them with red bikini panties I had and put the pantyhose on. I absolutely loved seeing my refection in the mirror and when I came downstairs I hammed it up with this pose for her camera!
She drove me to the school gymnasium where the Halloween party was and dropped me off. I was more thrilled than nervous to be out dressed like this and when I went in I saw a girl that lived in neighborhood, Michelle, and said hello. She didn't recognize me until I told her who I was ! She said I looked really good and I kind of stayed next to her during the party. When our mom's came to pick us up Michelle asked if I wanted to go trick or treating for candy with her when we got back home and I said sure! Walking around the neighborhood I don't think any of the people we knocked on doors actually knew it was me! Michelle walked me home and mom went through my candy and decided what I could keep to eat. I spent the rest of the evening in this dress and think I loved every second of it! As you can imagine it left a rather profound effect on me!

HILL COUNTRY
"Hill Country" is a vernacular term applied to a region including all or part of twenty-five counties near the geographical center of Texas. In the geomorphological sense, the Hill Country represents in large part a dissected plateau surface. It is bordered on the east and south by the Balcones Escarpment, on the west by the relatively undissected Edwards Plateau, and on the north by rolling plains and prairies. The elevations range from less than 1000 feet in the south and eastern areas of the Hill Country and generally rise toward the north and west to reach more than 2500 feet in Schleicher and Kerr counties, with most areas ranging between 1400 and 2200 feet. Lying in the transition zone between humid and semiarid climates, the Hill Country experiences both wet and dry years; at Fredericksburg eleven inches of precipitation was recorded in 1956 and forty-one inches the next year. The vegetation originally consisted of a parklike, open forest dominated by several types of oak, giving way in places to expanses of shinnery, to prairie, or to dense juniper (colloquially called cedar) brakes. Both mesquites and junipers have expanded as the environment has been disturbed. In the cultural sense the Hill Country has been a meeting ground of Indian, Spaniard, Mexican, hill southern Anglo, and northern European. The Apaches and their successors, the Comanches, left little imprint but did retard Spanish colonial activities in the region. As early as 1860 the partition of the Hill Country between the two groups that were to dominate it—hill southern Anglos and Germans—had been accomplished.
Between 1840 and 1850 significant numbers of settlers, mostly southern mountaineers, had been attracted to the Hill Country, particularly to Williamson, Hays, Comal, and Gillespie counties. Settlers from the mountain states of Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri composed the largest nativity groups within the rural, immigrant, Anglo-American population of these counties. The initial settlement of the remaining Hill Country counties occurred in the decade before the outbreak of the Civil War, as migration into the hills continued on a larger scale. According to a count of the 1860 manuscript census the leading states of origin for the Anglo-American population were still Arkansas and Tennessee. In the 1880 census the trend remained the same, supporting the claim that migration from the Ozark, Ouachita, and Appalachian states was largely responsible for the settlement of the Hill Country.
But the southern mountaineers were not solely responsible for the peopling of the Hill Country. Germans, mainly hill Hessians and Lower Saxons, introduced in the middle 1840s by the Society of Nobles (see ADELSVEREIN), occupied a corridor stretching 100 miles northwestward from New Braunfels and San Antonio through Fredericksburg as far as Mason, along the axis of an old Indian route known as the Pinta Trail, later called the Upper Emigrant Road. The towns of Fredericksburg, Comfort, Boerne, and Mason all bear a strong German cultural imprint, as do numerous neighboring hamlets and farms. By 1870 the population of Gillespie County was 86 percent German, Comal 79 percent, Kendall 62 percent, and Mason 56 percent. Each river valley in the German-settled portion of the Hill Country developed its own distinctive subculture, particularly in the religious sense. The Pedernales valley in Gillespie County is a Lutheran-Catholic enclave abounding in dance halls and ethnic clubs; the Llano valley in Mason and western Llano counties is dominated by German Methodists, who avoid dancing, drinking, and card playing; and the Guadalupe valley of Kendall County is the domain of freethinkers who maintain the only rural stronghold of agnosticism in Texas. Other European groups in the Hill Country include Silesian Poles, who settled at Bandera in the 1850s; Alsatians, who spread up from the Castroville area, following streams such as Hondo Creek; and Britishers, who came as sheepraisers to Kerr and Kendall counties. Blacks are largely absent in the Hill Country, though a few tiny freedmen colonies, such as Payton Colony in Blanco County, occur. Hispanics form a relatively small minority throughout the Hill Country.
In the late 1970s a study was made to determine the extent and intensity of the Hill Country as a perceptual region. Almost three-quarters of the people in the region so designated identified "Hill Country" as the popular name for the area
